I love how if a rocket is a lock-on, it'll just plow straight through a tree like its not even there. But if you happen to be firing a dumb-fire or wire-guided, the exact same tree will blow the damn thing up. I've missed out on so many choppers and a couple jets because a tree blocked my SMAW.

Alright i'm gonna say it, Since the Heliwhores say that the Stinger/Igla are for noobs because it's easier to kill choppers with them than rpgs, then using little birds/attack heli's against infantry is for noobs because it's easier to kill them than with a rifle. And AR's/carbines/lmgs are all for noobs because it's easier to get kills with them than with a butter knife. Sorry Heli pilots but there will always be a stinger/igla to ruin your 90-0 kill, I have to worry about armor, air, and infantry trying to kill me at all times i'm sure you'll be fine getting shot down once every couple of matches, you guys don't even die most of the time.
+JTHMsonicfan I think the IGLA should be a 2 shot on choppers because of the holding lock.
I hope in the Next Battlefield game they avoid this whole issue by actually having things balanced well at launch.

ok so i am in defense of the helicopters (please dont murder me) but im not a heliwhore because of people who use stingers/iglas. mainly because as soon as i spaan 10 seconds later ive been locked on by 5 or more stingers and die immediately. and seeing as how there is tanks, AA's, rpgs, soflam, miniguns, jets and other helicopters to worry about i think that being instakilled is a bit overpowered
but, you have to take in to account that driving a chopper/heli takes skill as well.
You should also note that when the SRAW is hip fired it acts like a dumb fire rocket like the RPG and SMAW. This is extremely useful for close quarters when you need to fire a rocket and quickly get back in cover.
I never knew that. All I do is ADS the SRAW and if I break my ADS it will just go straight UP. BTW I always use SRAW as a anti-camping tool (I'm not a SRAW expert)

This was actually pretty usefull information. I just hate the fact that DICE made the Javelin so you have to maintain lock-on or the missile will miss, when actually the Javelin is another fire and forget missile guidance system. It really just makes it pretty much useless along with the shitty damage.
it makes the game balanced ... imagine all infantry players running javelins .. the tank on vehicle drivers have no chance ... whats the point ?

***** I agree with you completely, however I do think it deserves a slight buff...to either its damage or make it 'fire and forget'...not both....only 1 on them since right now its not balanced, it's underpowered...at least IMO.
I just wish that you could fire at more than just vehicles with the Javelin like you can with a real one but, that could be a little unbalanced
Level, you should make a guide for the pick-up weapons, because they can change the tide of battles and are usually phenomenal. A surprising amount of people don't even know they exist. I see quite a few people just run right past or over them.

Well, I see quite a few people who don't know what an objective is, and run right past them, or even the process of killing enemies. So, it's not just that.

Today I saw a squad mate killing enemy parachuters using his SRAW in an Obliteration game on Paracel Storm. I was like "Un-f***ing-believable!".
I threw an ammo bag beside him and crouched beside him watching him nail 90% of his shots on the parachuters.

You know, I'm tired of you butt-hurt people, bitching about how lock-on AA's are "nooby" and you should, no, you MUST use "skill" and use RPG's and SMAW's to take out heli's.
Heli's are OP as it is, I know, I'm good in one. Taking away the most used method of taking them down is just unfair. You guys are lucky it takes TWO rockets to take down a Scout Heli when in the real world, it only takes ONE rocket. Seeing as that Dice, supposedly, try's to make this game as "realistic" as possible, they still put in a few twists so that this game doesn't turn out to be one difficult bummer.
Not many, In fact, a SMALL majority of people have said "skill" to use RPG's to take out Heli's. I'll admit, I'm shit at leading shots, so when I play Engi, I use a lot of lock-on launchers. I'm proud of my 500+ kills I got with my Stinger.
Also, don't give me none of that "Stingers are OP" bullshit. There are plenty of tactics of avoiding a simple stinger(again, coming from experience). The reason you THINK their OP is because it's the most commonly used method. Another reason would be that you are BAD at using Heli's, and when you die from a Stinger, you immediately think it's OP.
I'm willing to bet money that if Dice ever gave Stingers and IGLAS a nerf, Heli's will become even harder to kill, people will soon start to think that now Heli's are OP, and then people will want that nerfed. Resulting in unhappy gamers, people will think BF4 sucks, and shit will just hit the fan.

Totally agree with you. There are more times than not that I use stingers and the heli just flares or whatever and gets away from being destroyed. The fact that vehicles generally take 3+ hits from a rocket to be killed is pretty ridiculous to begin with. As a poster above noted, a real life javelin will absolutely destroy a tank in one shot. (it also is not reloadable) I dunno. It is always strange to me how Dice like to be hyper realistic in some respects and unrealistic in others.
From what I've seen a lot of things can take a heli out of the sky, so if you've got a crap pilot he's going to get royally owned. I've never called anti air launchers bad because I'm just awful at spotting the soldier who's firing it. As it is now the balance is fine, which is exactly why it takes two rockets to take out a chopper.
The fact that they can ignore flares and have a 450m range is why I considered them OP. 1 guy can deny a map to air.. Imo thats OP.
3minence It's not just about being as realistic as possible, it's about BALLANCE in real life a single shot to the head will take you out but if we make ever 1000 rpm guns a one shot to the head how is it fun? same with a javelin 1 hitting a tank it takes tanks completely out of the game and renders them useless.
You forget that also in real life, bullets damage aircraft. I would rather see standard guns do damage to aircraft than have stingers. I appreciate the fact that helis are annoying when you are playing infy, and the urge to stinger is strong, but I hate being shot down by stingers, because it is mostly from either people going on the offensive with a lock on weapon, or some buthurt heli/jet pilot that got shot down trying to get a cheap revenge.

A lot of people forget that battlefield is a teamwork based game. I have no problem admitting i suck with launchers and heli/jets, but people forget that if a sniper, engineer and support ran anti-air that prevents the other team's heli/jet from taking out your team's vehicles. A team well organized can dominate the field. Sadly, most matches involve players going rambo and wonder why they lose. People rage about rockets..maybe your team should take out the anti-air squad or be better pilots..This isn't CoD...racking up loads of kills wont cut it here on Battlefield. Team>Self.
EDIT:Most people who rage about lock-on rockets don't have the skill to avoid them. and quite honestly, only want to stay in the chopper to rack up kills without anyone interfering, that isn't being a "real" bf player, it's restricting the other team to avoid them taking out your chopper so you can attack foot soldiers uncontested like a sore loser.

there are some good players, even lone wolves, i'm not saying they're all crap. but if the whole team worked together and communicated it would be so much better. in bf3 we had 1 squad running soflam/jav for vehicles/air and then two squads each with a tank/support/engineer and assault and they were so well in sync about their situational awareness that they took objectives fast and it took the other team 15mins to wipe just 1 tank squad. bf4 could be the same if people smartened up and put the team before themselves. >-

The sraw is the best imo. it's so versatile, you can shoot land and air, and it's a lock on. All it takes is a little skill and patience.

Fast lock on weapons and slow replenishing countermeasures. On top of that add in a "critical energy mode" where your just a sitting duck waiting to be hit again because you can't move and you can't use your countermeasures because you already did, but they didn't work and your vehicle was still hit. Sorry for the rant, but this is just one of the problems in BF4. Hope those updated servers by DICE fix a lot of issues. Hooah for optimism!
There's definitely a fine line of balance when it comes to the lock on weapons vs the countermeasures. You can't have the countermeasures replenish too fast because then it would make the lock-on weapons useless. What's the point of firing multiple stingers if they are all flared away easily one after another. But you certainly shouldn't implement such slow replenishing countermeasures that three stinger missiles can hit you before you get them recharged. I think the stinger and IGLA should both require you to have to maintain a lock for it to be effective. They both do the same damage, so it's literally just luck of the draw as to what faction you spawn in as at the start of the game.
You also have to realize as a heli or jet pilot that if you're constantly being locked over a certain area, you need to change your tactics. To avoid being taken out, just run away from the area once you deploy countermeasures. DICE definitely needs to add below radar back in to the game, and have it actually work against stingers and IGLAs also, unlike BF3 where it was SUPPOSED to break the lock of an IGLA or stinger, but never did. It's a very fair trade-off. As a pilot, you can either fly low to avoid lock on weapons but leave yourself at risk of being taken out by a tank shell or RPG, or you can fly high and avoid those tanks and RPGs, but he exposed to easy fire and forget lock-on weapons.
AlutaShade That is funny, On almost every map you can change your tactics all you like, but if a team wants to kill you with stingers then you can't even hide in your deployment. That you put you at a risk of being in one area where you are easily hit by a jet or an AA. I would like to see global stats of Attack Heli's VS Tanks or Jets.

There would be no point in having a Stinger AND an IGLA if both required you to maintain lock and did the same amount of damage. The Stinger is a fire & forget weapon for a reason. If you don't have time to stare at an air target then you use that. The factions are just different soldier skins and don't determine what weapons you start off with. Unlike in BF3 there are no faction specific weapons so if you have the IGLA unlocked you can use it while playing as the US or Chinese soldiers.

I love the SRAW it's basically the only launcher I use, it does take getting used to guiding it but eventually it pays off

I use the RPG and can get awesome kills on tanks and aircraft.
I LOVE THE RPG because it does more damage and has a quicker reload but it's harder to use. After lots of practice I can shoot a heli down almost every time and sometimes a jet!!
I don't know why when i'm shooting with smaw i fell like im throwing sticks,and when im shooting rpg then it's a goddamn cannon!
On a side note, you're not required to stay ADS while using the SRAW. You are able to line the rocket up and drop ADS and start your reload. The rocket will continue in the path it was taking as long as your didn't jerk your aim while dropping ADS. It's handy to get quick shots off on somewhat stationary targets without keeping yourself exposed while stuck in ADS.

THE ONLY time I use lock ons & the dirty dirty dirty mobile AA, is when im getting absolutely owned by them that match!! Somewhere deep inside me snaps and I break the heli/jet creed.......and...I......(gasp)....the shame. I find myself standing ontop of a hill with a stinger/mAA screaming TAKE THAT YOU FOUL CREATURES!! FEEL MY PAIN!!!! shooting down all their pilots.........may we never speak of this again...

SMAW is great against those snipers up on the skyscrapers on DawnBreaker or Siege of Shanghai, got some clips of the rockets directly hitting them, great feeling.
I prefer the RPG mostly because I've used it so much I can predict the drop and speed and kill helicopters with ease as long as they don't change flight patterns after I launch it. I'm so used to it I feel it would take forever to get that good with the SMAW if I switched. But yeah, I really like the RPG. and I prefer the Igla over the Stinger because the Igla is faster and I really like that extra range.
Yea, it's got a faster reload and more damage than smaw, and the drop can be learned
Yeah, those the only reason I use the IGLA is the range. I mostly play on legacy operations conquest large, so sure that has something to do with it lol
the extra range on the igla makes it far better. combined with team work, it's generally better than the stinger because of how much range you get
missile = tracks its target(projectile doesn't always fly straight)
Rocket = projectile flies straight to where it was aimed at when it was fired

Dear Levelcap, you do know that the ps4 has had the update of the javelin and stinger put back into the game but it seems it isn't on PC? The Javelin 1 hit kills all helicopters upon laser designation. It also does 34 damage and not 30. The stinger does 45 on ps4 which should be 35. Not sure if it is 35 on PC but it seems that the update that removed the power and nerfed the weapon was put back in with Naval Strike. It also seems to be that not many people have noticed this even when i commented to Matimi0 about this.
Same for Xbox One. also you can still dubblfire javlens on console
Yh... It's a fucking joke. Try playing Obliteration on Paracel Storm. You constantly get Javelin fucktards spawning on the parachute and just shitting all over the Attack Boat. 1 Javelin can critical hit the boat and stop it from moving then from there you are fucked by the other 2 javelins as you can't move. They also need to remove heat seeking weapons from being used when parachuting, because getting stingered/javelined from the sky is just beyond a joke.

AccuracyBeast It's a valid tactic and has made the team I was on win more than a few times.
I always choose my rocket launchers depending on the situation. I take a look at the map screen before spawning where I can see how many air, or ground units are located around. I always try to take out as many as I can, so I look for objective on which is happening biggest air, or ground vehicle activity. Then I choose appropriate rocket launcher for that corresponding situation, and spawn at nearest point to my targets. I usually use IGLA and RPG, but sometimes when I need to take care of attack boats, the Javelin comes in handy.
I hate the mtb law. You don't need any skill to use it and it always gets trough the active armor...
You do realize that after the series of nerfs the guidance is completely useless on it? The missile currently has a lock range of 15 meters and an acceptance angle of 10 degrees, so the missile can only lock at targets in a circle of 5.2 meters diameter 15 meters in front of it - in other words it would have hit the target (tank, LAV) even if it didn't have guidance in almost all cases.
my fav rocket launcher's are the RPG and the Stinger. The RPG is great for shooting down tanks and concrete walls, while the Stinger is so reliable to take down flight vehicles.
When I'm in a helicopter and get taken out by a s-raw, rpg, smaw I nod in respect.....
But for when I get taken out by a stinger or igla.... I feel cheated XD

I'm also a huge fan of helis, but you gotta face the facts. I mean, when you're in a chopper killing enemies how do you expect the enemies to kill you?, I mean let's be honest to hit a chopper with an RPG or s-raw you need to have a certain degree skill that not all players can master so easily, which is why is 1 hit kill, but even if they're good with those if you're a good pilot, you can manage to avoid them most of the times, unless you get really close, even you said it, you "nod in respect" because is not easy to do. My point is that infantry needs to have something else to defend themselves from a scout and attack heli, otherwise we as pilots would just waste them, we just don't get close enough to be in danger of RPG's and we're set through the match.
But I also see your point and share your frustration as pilot

As you can see I friggin love Scout Helis, anyway, if you ask me it would be better if dice nerf the stinger a little in order to require more skill to use it, I don't know, maybe if take a longer time to lock on, and make the stinger an always lock on weapon too, make the chopper not so easily destroy-able, you know what I mean? there are times when even after a hit you manage to land it but the heli is still spinning and if the tail hit something even if it goes like 1 m/p and your heli is still with half life it gets destroyed... that's so frustrating, there are 32 enemies on the opposite team and only 1 persona with 1 stinger is all it takes to take you down...
I'm not even gonna mention the MAA, all I'm gonna say about it is that I can tolerate it if it's not using active radar missiles and if it's NOT CAMPING IN ITS BASE BY HIS CENTURION.

AlXV the scout heli is powerful enough and you can easily outrange the stinger. What dice should do is remove any and all impact effect from the SAM's. Way, way to many times both the pilot and the shooter get frustrated by the non-kill and the crash into the ground with 30% HP
Just FYI with the SRAW: you can fire the rocket, choose a target by looking at it, and then zoom out and do something else. The rocket will just continue towards it's last known laser designated point. It's also possible to aim, shoot, stop aiming and let the rocket fly for a little bit, and then suddenly aim again, and make it go towards a new target.
It does have a maximum flight time though, I've seen one blow up in midair.

One thing you can do to get around the "wombo-combo" nerf is fire your sraw/javelin in the air, reload, the reaquire the target, but wait for your first to hit. When it does you fire the second one. Also the seaw can be reloaded faster by coming out of ads, the sraw will continue to travel to the last spot you were pointing to, you can then reload the sraw while it flies towards its target.
You should have covered the pick-up ones too
Btw, a lot of people don't know this apparently since just about every guide states that the SRAW needs to be guided and can't be dumb fired and I notice people use it as the main argument against this launcher, but if hip fired the SRAW will actually dumb fire and go straight ahead. Don't know if this is obvious or not but I've yet to really see anyone point it out, and it has a decent rocket drop when dumb fired but that doesn't matter since you really won't dumb fire this unless someone is up close.
Dumb firing the SRAW is really only useful for close vehicles, the occasional stationary mid-range tank, and taking out infantry and structures.
+CreaturePlaysGames I've gotten plenty of hits on mobile tanks with it, it actually flies perfectly straight when dumb fired like the SMAW and maintains the same damage, it just flies a lot slower but still it is possible to get hits with it using the fire and forget method in a situation where you can't guide it. Not to mention up close would be the only time you would want to dumbfire anyways, since at a distance you'd just want to guide it anyways??
+Overlord Ghs When I meant stationary tank I meant ones that are out to about 200-300 meters, and even then it's more for novelty's sake.
Levelcap, I would have liked damages on the rocket launchers a little more specific than "a little more damage than.." and "a little less damage than..." like exact damages from firing a rpg or smaw from each side of a tank, I.e. front,back,sides,top damages. A little over 9 minutes for a guide on all the rocket launchers is really inadequate.

Rob Leonard While it may seem to take another "20 seconds" in reality anything more you do in editing equates to much more time overall. The link has all the damage stats you need. I will keep that in mind for future guides though!
After about 200+ kills and multiple choppers picked out of the air with my SRAW I have actually chosen to go back to the basics and getting good with the RPG7, all prediction and other aiming quirks needed.
I would definitely recomend getting good with the RPG7 over the SRAW, with the higher damage and fire and forget nature of it just makes it more versitle. The only time a SRAW is more useful is for taking out vehicles at ridiculous ranges, which isn't really a priority for someone who is not near said vehicle.

Just a note / tip, the SRAW can be guided to the Gunship by just aiming at it. You dont need to lead the whole time. I only lead for the first part of the flight, then just aim straigt at the front half of the gunship and your sraw will hit. Its the only means infantry has against a gunship when your Air and AA buddies suck.

They need to take that re-lock mechanic out any attack chopper pilot will tell you this. When I deploy my counter measures I should be safe for any previous lock-on threats. This makes in too easy for stingers. If you want to take a chopper down you should either need skill or teamwork.

The Igla is the only one that can relock, and you can still easily dodge it with proper flying and ground cover use. Your countermeasures give you time to evade. If not, Q.Q somewhere else.

SneakyPolack You would survive just fine with someone with a repair tool and proper flying yesterday me and my teammate survived almost half a conquest match. You can't expect to stay up the whole match man.
FYI The Javelin still does 34 damage on consoles (and thus is a 3 shot kill). Additionally, you can still wombo combo on consoles for 68 damage.

don't underestimate the MBT LAW. It might not do too much against armor, but it's very good at building demolition in infantry game modes. Makes it very good for taking any cover your enemies might have and turning it into pebbles.

hioeo Here's a point: the LAW's inner blast radius is over 5 times larger than that on the RPG, SMAW and SRAW (2m compared to .35m on the other three dumb-fire launchers). So, while it does less damage, it still does enough to blast off the entire façade of one of the houses on Golmud Railway. Combine that with a maximum velocity that is a full 50% faster than the SMAW (150m/s unguided compared to the Mk153's 100m/s), and you have one of the best launchers for anti-infantry/demolition duties.

The stinger is an excellent choice for riding in a scout heli with, makes you damn near invincible if you have a good pilot.

Well he was an idiot flying where theres 0 cover so he should be hit. I think flares are fine actually, the ah was way too good in bf3 and even with the nerfs i can do very well in them in bf4. You really need to have a good pilot, and thats what i like from bf3, where any scrub could kill half your team. I think they need to remove mobility hits from lock on rockets and increase the speed of ah and theyll be fine

Yeah if you use the estingers or the maw but the RPG has alot of rocket drop you have to aim at the chopper not directly but over the chopper as the rocket falls it will hit the chopper. I personally think that the igla/stinger should not be in the game. They are just an extra way to take out air vehicles without any skill. That's why i have never used either of them, and have about 100 kills on air targets with my RPG.
I rarely ever used the stinger, IGLA, and even the javelin in Battlefield 3. I'm a Colonel 100 with almost 1,500hrs logged on the game and I have less than 100 kills with each of those launchers. Probably not even over 100 kills with them combined. My javelins always just get deterred from tanks popping smoke, and not many people ran with a soflam. So they seemed useless to me. I trust my skills with an RPG far more than I do with a lock-on weapon. I have no problem leading targets and am fully aware of the angles needed to hit a tank with an RPG to receive maximum damage (you can two-shot a tank with an RPG in the rear at a 90° angle provided they aren't running reactive armor).
As for the stingers and IGLAs, it always seemed like mine would easily get flared away or the jet/heli would ECM and I would never get a hit. I've tried and tried to take air vehicles out with them consistently and it just never works in my favor. However, any time I'm piloting an attack chopper, I'm getting locked from the enemy's spawn even though I'm on the other side of the map and I deploy flares, but they fail and I still get hit. Or I'm starting to get locked, I pop ECM to break it, but somehow the enemy was still able to acquire a lock and the missile just spins and spins around my chopper and then re-locks after my ECM cloud disappears and I get hit. Can't even tell you how many times I've raged because my flares or ECM failed and an enemy got a kill on me, then in the death screen he's miles away from where my chopper was. So fucking annoying, stingers worked for everyone else in the game but me :(
All they needed to do was have one HVM on each map with air vehicles out in a very exposed spot and also have below radar. There fixed
I personally use the stinger defensively. I don't hound one air target down like most assholes do I just use it when being threatened directly from an air target. Makes the game much more fair. I actually find that if you conserve ammo and only use it if you're being directly attacked by air than conserve ammo for multiple air threats.

This is what I do as well. I almost always run with the RPG or Smaw, but if an attack heli or jet is being especially annoying or can't be taken down easily, I'll pull out the stinger/IGLA and spam the hell out of it. Basically, I only use it if there is a huge threat on the enemy team that is dominating the map and causing difficulties for the rest of us.

I'd like to make note that you can do 55dmg with the SRAW without laser designation. 1. fire missile in the sky 2. Reload 3. Aim at target. The missile should come straight down on the tank granting a mobility hit and 55dmg
My way of describing launchers:
SMAW: It sucks. (my opinion)
RPG: Skills to pay the bills.
SRAW- ERRMMMAAAAAAAGGGGEEEEEERRRRRRRRDDDDDDDD
STINGER: Noobs.
IGLA: Pros
MBT-LAW: *commits suicide*
My way of describing them:
SMAW: Ease of use launcher. (well kind of anyway, obviosly harder than MBT-LAW but easier than RPG, use when you think you're not a newb or noob, but not pro either)
RPG: Good ol' high risk, high reward machine. And I wouldn't want it another way.
SRAW: Deceptively dificult (wire guided, but VERY SLOW), but fun to use as well.
STINGER: Fire and Forget, nuff said.
IGLA: Not neccesarily harder to use, but you need to actually do some effort besides firing it. Speed demon though. Also chains less frequently
MBT-LAW: Welcome to BF4 here's an MBT for some warmup.

Levelcap! i noticed you were using the aku-12 but you were using it fully automatic, however if you use it in burst it fires 70 rounds per minute faster the ak-12 does this too but instead fires only 50 rounds faster taking them both up to 750 rpm
stinger seriously needs an increase to reload time and a decrease in damage, if your going to use a no skill weapon, and fire and forget, then it needs to have downsides,so sick of everyone and their brother using these damn things whenever im in any aircraft, got way too much damn range as well

I just wish that the javelin wouldn´t be able to lock on to vehicles without countermeasures. Its frustrating to get one shotted on a dirtbike or in a jeep. I remember I did this to maaaany C4 bikes on Kiasar back in BF3. But on the receiving end you´re just fucked.

CoD has had lock on weapons for a very long time. The only CoD that doesn't have lock on rockets is Ghosts and that's because of the theme they have and that there's only 1 air vehicle I think.

One correction: You can "dumb fire" a SRAW, just point, aim and fire. You can even guide the projectile for a while and then release when you are happy with the flight path.

You expose yourself when using the IGLA and the Javelin. Also, the enemy knows that your have locked onto them when you use all three of those launchers. There is nothing in the game that is for "noobs" only.

I never see this mentioned but the sraw is always a lock on weapon. If you hold the target at a helicopter it will come back and hit it. It does NOT perform like the at4 from bc2. You can shoot a sraw 400m away and then aim it at a time 200m in front of you and the rocket will turn around and come back.
But that's not lock on, it's not locking technically, it just goes where you aim, so if you aim closer to you than where the missile is, it will turn around. Locking would give vehicles the lock warning and would be counterable with flares/smoke/ECM
