In this tutorial, I will be demonstrating how you can disable automatic updates in Windows 10 both Home and Pro editions. It could be you’re not yet confident enough to upgrade to the latest Windows 10 build, or you want to save on data usage, especially if you’re using a limited internet subscription and won’t want to waste data downloading some updated you might not need, here I show how to disable the automatic Windows update feature and also how to re-enable it whenever you choose to do so.
Obviously, some updates help to keep your PC safe by installing the latest security features to your Windows, so you may want to re-enable this feature after some time, or better still perform the process manually instead of automatically.

It's astonishing that Microsoft doesn't understand that power users would rather get hacked than to wake up to all their Chrome tabs missing. They're actually brain deficient. Theyve actually started blue screening me just to force updates. I've had them disabled for so long, and yet somehow my versions keep increasing while I sleep. So I set up an alarm using a logitech steering wheel. Since msoft can't disable usbs from reinitiating power. (yes I do security updates like twice a year manually)

Well, I tried it on a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro 22H2 and it just wont work. Every re-boot the "service" just starts "running" again in "manual" mode" ... ugh ....

How does Windows 11 Updates work? Like Windows 10 that even if you pause automatic updates once you click on resume updates it will automatically download any updates available. Or like Windows 7 that you can manually check for updates, but once everything that has an update comes up, I can decide what i chose to update.
Ideally on Windows 11 I want to manually check for updates but also be able to decide what I want to update like on Windows 7. I don't know if its possible on there.

In my Group policy, Config Automatic Updates is Disabled and No auto-restart... is Enabled. What does that mean?

because this doesnt work but you can try this: do as said in first method up to a point where he tells you to simply disable the service but instead go into a 'log on' tab. there you need to pick option that says 'this account' and then click 'browse' in the window that pops up, type your account name (it must have admin clearance) and then click 'check names' then 'ok'. next in the 'password' and confirm password field just type whatever twice(although 2 fields need to match - make sure its not a real password you use). then go back to the first tab and simply click on 'stop' (DONT USE THE 'DISABLE' SETTING from drop down menu - leave it as it was on manual or automatic) and then finish config by clicking 'ok'. this causes the service to use your local account to run, but by using wrong password it cannot login and fails to start. it should not trigger microsoft watchdog hidden in the system that simply enables the disabled service again.

I guess I would have to uninstall the latest window update if it happens again and go back and download from the server ..if they don't take it off there website, they want you to buy new and make monthly payments, I don't need the new with all the updates and improvements new features.

In case you did not read the above comments, read this: Be aware that disabling updates in the Windows services list in the video does NOT work. Soon after you disable it, Windows 10 will silently re-enable it. There are two more modules in the list which must also be disabled. I hacked it and found which modules need disabling. Now Windows no longer turns the updates back on.
I have a 12-year-old high-end Qosmio i7 computer, for which new drivers are needed to do updates. Toshiba no longer provides driver updates. This causes the Windows update to uninstall itself when it is almost finished. That uninstall takes about 45 min. My hack STOPS all updates from starting, and does not interfere with your software.
