    Good job. 👍

    You only need to use the Extend option on the Recovery Partition. It will automatically resize the partition you're taking space from. Just make sure you select the correct partition to grab space from, in the pull down menu (most likely C:).

      @@Britec09 Got that right, mate! Been watching your videos for a few years now and the information has been invaluable.
      In fact, just few weeks ago, my Surface Pro 3 started a boot loop with a message "Attempting to Repair" on startup. Granted I have less than 10GB free space left on the SSD but it worked fine so far. And if I boot from a Windows 10 USB drive, I am able to see all my files but none of the Windows 10 built-in options to "Restore" the PC (while keeping the data) seem to work. Watching your videos in this series makes me wonder if the issue with my SP3 might also be related to an update to the recovery partition as well as the fact that Microsoft may have downloaded an update in the background that filled up the SSD and it's unable to decompress the downloaded update files while applying the update to the recovery partition?
      Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work! 👍

After more research, Microsoft is aware of the issue and will be releasing a patch to fix it very soon. So, instead of doing all this crap and possibly messing up your pc doing it. For the operation with the Mini Tool it worked because you had the recovery partition and the unallocated partition adjacent . I tried the operation when the two partitions were not adjacent the Mini Tool refused to do the job . I didn’t dare to do it the Microsoft way because of the ‘adjacent ‘ stuff . In you example you had the two partitions adjacent so every thing worked fine.

    Great video! I have already applied the commands to my pc as well. It's pretty straight forward once you know what to do however I will not recommend anyone who isn't comfortable modifying partitions to do this and just wait for them to fix it themselves. I hope Microsoft never repeats this mistake again by telling everyone to modify partitions. I hope they will update the Installation media for currently supported versions of Windows to enforce the change.

    Sorry but I am down voting every video that shows how to fix because this is 2024 and Microsoft knew they shouldn't have rushed the update, and to expect a very large amount of people who don't know much about computers, and software to mess with anything for windows recovery, let alone the Command prompt is the stupidest thing any company can do. You think the Nurses, Doctors, Elderly, and others are not going to damage there computer or worse screw someone else files? This is Microsoft's screw up, and they should be the ones to fix this.

    Finally gotten around to do this. It works just fine with basic drive C setup. But the geniuses that made mine set it up with recovery partition in the middle of C & F partitions. So, after trying it the way the vid shows I ran into a wall with some minimum memory size requirement for OS. So I backed up F Partition and deleted F & Recovery partitions. Repartition F (now F follows C then recovery) and then followed the section of how to make a new Recovery Partition. And did all this will being up for 36hrs and really tired.👍

    It worked. Wasted about 3hrs trying other suggestions first. I had three recovery partitions, one at the start of the disk not in use, then two more at the end of the disk which I was able to delete and replace with a single large recovery partition. If I ever reinstall Windows, I'm going to manually partition it first, with a 1GB recovery partition at the end of the disk, and no 450MB partition at the start.

    Brian, remember that someone can mitigate the risk of deleting the wrong object by running the command ~list ~ e.g. ~list partition~ after running any select command. The table that is generated will have an asterisk on the left side denoting the currently selected object. It isn’t foolproof, but it at least it allows the user to verify that they selected what they intended to select.

    Ok, the first method works on a GPT disk, but the first method does not work on an MBR disk, because there is an error in the MBR instruction. Microsoft has combined two instructions to the same instruction without understanding the formatting differences between GPT and MBR disks. After formatting the MBR disk, the command set id=27 must be given, otherwise the recovery partition does not exist on the MBR disk, because the partition ID is 7 (NTFS). Partition ID need to be 27 (Rocovery).

Do you think that the MiniTool app could be used to make these two partitions into just one? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

However, after resizing the recovery partition, my Windows backup failed with a STATUS_WAIT_1 error. To fix that, I had to delete the existing backups and WindowsImageBackup folder then reconfigure a new backup. Apparently, the Windows backup functionality is closely tied to the disk partition information.

    Also folks, remember that many SSD control softwares (like Samsung Magician) advise and offer the option to OverProvision an SSD. There are benefits, but the primary cost is that OverProvisioning sets aside any some (usually user discretion) amount of your drive’s capacity (Magician recommends 10%). If you have any space on the disk not partitioned, you might not need to shrink the Primary partition.

    Attention to the diskpart method. If the partition is recreated and not extended, the original files from Recovery/WindowsRE must be returned to it because they will disappear during formatting, and the RE system will be started in the C partition as a backup, not in the dedicated partition. Another problem will be that if a UNC path is not specified in reagentc at the /setreimage /path option, then the letter of the recovery partition when you remove it (so that you can hide the partition) will cause the complete recovery system to fail or return to the backup from C if still its present. And if the letter of the recovery partition comes back after startup, it must be removed from the registers from /mounteddevices in the dosdevices area.

    I used the Hide from your previous video. Any risk in not doing anything, and just let the future updates fix it. I assume since the updates are Cumulative what I have hidden won't matter anymore once Microsoft Fix's it. Please Comment... Thanks again for your Videos.

    Used the MiniTool Partition Wizard (free) and it worked fine. I was a bit confused because my "Type" is labeled "MBR" not "GPT" (probably because it is a RAID setup?) and there was an unlabeled partition of the right size in the same location as what was shown in the video. I increased it's size and apparently it was the correct one (really the only one it could be) as the update went through. THANKS!

    I had no issues with increasing my recovery partition to 1gb and re-enabling the windows recovery.
    But I do understand why others would be better with risking.
    Best of all Microsoft came out last week saying that they won't be fixing the patch.

    My C drive shows no partitions. In Disk Management my C Drive states the following: Healthy (System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)
    I have a 512 GB SSD drive for my Windows 10 Pro OS
    My PC is scheduled for Windows Update on January 26, will I have problems if I only just allow the updates?

    Thanks it worked, you have to click apply after extending the recovery partition and reboot your system in order for the update to install successfully. For some weird reason in my case I have two recovery partitions and I found the correct one which is being used but I'm not going to bother deleting the other recovery partition as I do not want to risk breaking the system.

    I had no problem with Microsofts' instructions, apart from the fact they did not work on one of my machines. Microsoft was unable to resize the Windows partition for some reason. (BTW you may shrink a partition from the disk management window without using the command line. Just right click on the partition and select 'Shrink'. This also didn't work, so I have to use a partitioning software too.

      I had the same/similar issue. All the steps I took were exactly how the instructions said, but I ended up with 250MB of unallocated memory. I went through the whole process again and I checked the size of the partition before and after every step and noticed that the size never changed at all.
      Glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue

    I've fixed mine by just enabling WinRe cause I already have an existing default Recovery partition which is on partition 1 with 499mb size. It's what I came up with first before proceeding and do what's in the video and to my luck it worked! I didn't have to go through all that 😁😁😁

    There is a problem

    DiskPart has encountered an error: The parameter is incorrect.

    This simple fix isn't even necessary in many cases. Instead, disable the RE environment from an elevated command prompt. Reboot and reenable the RE environment. Reboot again and then download the update. This fixes it in many cases. Though for some, it may take a couple of tries. None of this messing with partitions is at all necessary.

    • @Lord_Funk
      @Lord_Funk 7 месяцев назад

      I can't even enable the RE anymore after fiddling with this. When typing the command reagentc /enable, It now says "REAGENTC.EXE: The Windows RE Image was not found". Also I can not find the WinRE image file (winre.wim) in the \Windows\System32\Recovery folder which is it's default location. So somehow, some step deleted, moved or hid that file so it can't even be found with "show hidden files" option enabled. I still can not get the update to work and now I can't even have RE enabled. Lose lose situation.

  • @Ecstasio
    @Ecstasio 8 месяцев назад +1

    Just make a WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment) on a bootable USB drive alongside a clean Windows image. Job done. No need to even have a recovery partition. This will be addressed soon by Microsoft. This is literally a pointless update. Anyone tech savvy enough to be playing with their partitions will already have a bootable WinRE (on a USB or any secondary drive) and anyone who doesn't have one probably isn't going to be comfortable or safe playing with partitions.

    Much thanks for the second idea Sir, that did the trick. But now, the same update is still in the Queue to be loaded up, the system is not advanced enough to see that it is in already.
    What other ideas do you have to solve this? 🤔
