- John Denver and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band perform "Take Me Home, Country Roads" at Farm Aid in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985.
A performance from the first Farm Aid benefit concert. Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. The show was put together in six weeks and was held on September 22, 1985 in Champaign, Illinois before a crowd of 80,000 people. It raised over $9 million for America's family farmers. Performers included Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and many more.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

I remember this performance watching from home with my 1 month old baby girl on my lap. She's 30 now and has a baby of her own! Crazy how time goes by.
wb6162 It is indeed
must be nostalgic. 😁
wb6162 you should be a proud father.
I met John in high school. I drove a fuel truck at the airport. He showed up one day, I refuelled his plane, ran his card on card paper and said "John Denver? Like Gilligan's island?" He laughed and said "no, that's Bob". He jumped into the truck with me to get a ride to town and when he saw my banjo sitting on the seat we talked about music. We played together, all simple songs but so much fun. That went on for 3 years before someone told who he actually was.... The day he went down, America lost a treasure. I lost a friend
Proof
Tears and a hug. Never met him but I know what we all lost that day. Treasure your memories.
This is one of the first songs that I learned to play on my keyboard.
Amazing John
Son
John was one of those guys that was humble enough to know he had a good voice and was happy to share it with the rest of us.
I mean....his voice is pretty generic. Not to be rude. But it'd the lyrics and the songwriting that you are truly enjoying. Any dude who can song can sing the song and get the same reaction.
John Denver you may be gone but you will NEVER be forgotten!
RIP Steven Irwin
Yet the dumb Rock n Roll HOF doesn't induct him yet they have pop and rap artists....nor is he in the Country Music HOF. Crying shame
I sure did love that guy! And the Dirt Band, too.
this was one day after my 4th birthday. my grandma used to play john denver all the time when i was a kid. id give anything to go back and sit and listen to john denver with my grandma.
When vocalist were actually genuine.
I love the look John Denver gets when he's singing. You can tell he really feels and believes what he's singing and that makes me feel and believe it too. RIP John Denver, Music Legend
Such a sweetheart of a man taken from us but his songs had such a reach that even now days they still touch the hearts of people everywhere
I was there that night. Just a 22 year old kid. Champaign, IL. Concert started in the morning and lasted well into the evening. There had to have been 100,000 people there. Very electric atmosphere. The place went wild when Denver sang "Thank God I'm a Counrty Boy". Sammy Hagar also rocked hard that night. Great times like this night don't come often.
I love him. I miss him so much. He was a simple country boy who had big ideas that he wasn't afraid to share with us. The best thing he shared was love and his voice.
Agreed. I believe we all should go out like we came in, simple and humbled.
Nobody will ever be able to sing this song any better then good ol John Denver. End of story.
I'm a trucker am half way home for good!! I got 4 hrs yet to go. my wife called me I started singing this to her lol

Rest In Peace, John Denver. Love you! You will NEVER, EVER be forgotten! ❤️
I first heard this song during a break from a fishing float trip on the Illinois River with my late father while sitting at Peyton's Place. It brings tears to my eyes........
John denver is still the icon. No one can forget him.
One of my closest friends at Texas Tech in 1963. Still miss him.

Marvelous. Those were the days. Miss them terribly.
Amen brother.👍
One of our greatest Country artists ever! Love from Sweden!
Denver wasn't a country artist in the typical sense. He was a cross over artist with country sounding songs. Nonetheless, he was a great singer
Solveig Metus John Denver is awesome
IKR I love him always
So you there's county music in Sweden? interesting.
Solveig Metus synd att Sverige inte har så bra musik...
Such a talented singer and musician taken far too soon. R.I.P. John.

Me too fm korea.
Someday i wanna visit his place.
This song always makes my youngest brother and me homesick because we were raised in a rural area and nearby towns were small to smaller. Now we live in separate states, neither of them is our home state.
Song is about those darn 'teardrops in my eye'
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!! Country roads, take me home to the place I belong...WEST VIRGINIA, mountain mama...take me home, country roads!
Wow! How did you know the lyrics?
He looks and sounds gorgeous, and what a pairing... With NGDB!!!

He was a great singer CATHI gone to soon

Great country: one of the best ! R.I.P John: you were the best country songwriter ever !
I was privileged to have seen him preform live. It was an intimate concert of about 3 or so thousand. He encouraged us to sing along with him and since his song are so famous all of us did.
Nothing as American as hearing John Denver song this song. :). Iconic song and great singer.
Man. Who knew Steve Irwin could sing so well?!
ha ha ha he John looks like Steve.
astonifyed OMGGGGGGGGG
astonifyed this is John Denver
it's only a joke
Complicate Democratize Channel are you saying that because he is dead or do you know for a fact steve irwin can't sing?
This song always makes me so humble....happy and yet sad. So much love with my relatives there (Clarksburg, WVA) when we would visit them from Baltimore in the 70s. I couldn't have asked for more loving and caring people to be surrounded by. They are all gone now but they live on in mine and a lot of other peoples' memories.
John Denver had 12 years left to live. Don't go flying John, leave that to the Eagle and the Hawk. R.I.P.
A century from now all this will be faded and distant but, like Steven Foster, John Denver will keep lifting hearts.
Classic bands, classic Country/Folk...
Watching in 2019 and way too many are gone... Great concert for an even greater cause.
I so very much love John Denver's music and truly do miss him.
I remember when he was a mega star in the U.S, he even hosted The Tonight Show a few times.

my all time favorite singer!love all his songs ...his songs always tell a story like country music should...miss him!
returning from Florida the summer of 1970 we drove through WV and this song played constantly since we had to change radio stations as we drove. this song reminds me of WV, my dad and just being young. beautiful song
1971
Every time I hear this song I change the words to Pennsylvania instead of West Virginia! It always makes me happy! RIP John, you're definitely missed!
Guess we all do the same.. I change it to the place where I grew up. Very sentimental song.. love it!
why would you destroy a good song with replacing the words with Pennsylvania that would destroy the songs meaning
No, not really...just listen to the song and if you haven't moved away from home, then you'll know what I'm talking about! I grew up in Pennsylvania and I now live in SE Idaho...makes perfect sense to me!
Este tipo es un espectáculo, seguro en el cielo todos se regocijan con su voz.
Mr. JOHN Denver !!! West Virginia, moma !
Je suis Charlie

Rest in peace John your legacy will live on.
I love John Denver the song Take Me Home Country Road .😀
This is pure country music i miss you
Daniel Serrano Folk music or western not country. Country sucks
2 of the best in country music.
They were great! I recalled listening to this, they were having some trouble with the sound system, but they blew it out of the water with such a fantastic performance. It's too bad that the stereo system malfunctioned so there was no balance....... sometimes you can't hear the instrumental accompaniment and that John Denver's voice would end up being faded out temporarily. But I still love singing to it.
Good job John, we will miss you
Just a great show
Farm aid concert
Fantastic memories !!
saw John in Norfolk Scope. Beautiful. John's voice was so beautiful he did not need and instrument to sound great
The Best Ever !
Time goes by so fast, like a vapor that appears for a little while and puff it’s gone.
Grande artista nos deixou prematuramente, sua voz suas canções maravilhosas, que falta nos faz.
I used to sing and play these songs during my days as a semi-professional musician. Now, I use them to play along to in my effort to improve my skills on the ukulele.

I love JD and NGDB, the #Farmaid effort is a real need! Belonging to #seabreezeorganifarm a small CSA here in San Diego we are standing on the premise that local access to real food is your right! Support local farmers :) Doesn't get any better than hearing those words from JD's lips...he's gone but the need to support local farming continues....love this!
Legends never die!
REST IN PEACE JOHN DENVER
One of the best singer/songwriters of the boomer generation.
