I think a great team to cover in your collapse series is the 2012-present orlando magic, and how the decisions they made set them back quite a lot(oladipo for ibaka and stuff like that)
With the college career and hype behind Webber, I won't suprised Shaq didn't want him in Orlando as Webber might show him up or at least try to make the team revolve around him which Shaq didn't want either way. Penny complimented Shaq's game and was happy to be the Robin to Shaq's Batman. Shaq has said on a number of occasions that he wanted 28ppg first then was happy for the rest of the team to "get theirs". I can't imagine Webbers ego would of been happy with that.
I was a ball boy for the warriors back then & Nellie was trash. The GM sided with a .500 coach over a potential Hall of Famer. Spree & Webber had a stronger future than Timmy & Nellie.
The most hurtful moment in my time as a Warriors fan, the Mitch Richmond trade was close but we still went to the playoffs after that trade, but this just sent the organization into a tailspin. Sprewells choke out of Carlisimo followed.
I hated that year and Mitch was my favorite player during this time and they traded him for Billy Owens, barf, they guy was a mediocre in college and mediocre in the pros
He's traded from GS and they dont make the playoffs for over a decade after. Brings the lowly Bullet/Wizards to the playoffs and comes close to finishing the Jordan Bulls (twice, i think) then makes the Kings into a title contender. Webber is underrated.
my high school coach got really made at us when we would put our hands on our knees to catch our breath because it's bad for airflow or whatever. Apparently that is what Webber did all the time and our coach would tell us to quite doing the chris webber and would make us run more if we did
This is well done and explains it perfectly! There’s nothing else on RUclips about this story. I can understand why Webber wanted out. And Nelson was a great coach (and GM), but knowing he had that opt out, he should have laid off for that season - definitely a mistake on Nelson’s part. They both deserve blame here. They had a good thing going and were loaded with talent. I’m positive they both reflect on this and both wish they handled things differently. Ironic that Webber ended his career in Golden State - with Nelson as his coach; too little too late.
C Webb was a beast at Sacramento. NBA Live 05 was a hell of a game with them. Just wish my best friend, Jeremy Dewayne Owens, were still here to see how it ended. Lost him in '06 to complications from Sickle Cell disease. Miss you, my brother. Every day 🙏❤️😥
Nate Cruz some of the blame but treating the future of your franchise like that just isn’t acceptable he had a personal grudge at a point if it’s just criticizing my game it’s ok you start talking about my pockets we are both men at that point it’s not player coach
What's kind of ironic is that both Webber and Nelson were probably more alike than they were different. Both were 2 of the most talented ever in there respective field. Both won at some point wherever they went though never a championship (Webber and the kings should have and probably would have in 02 but thats another conversation) and both had complicated personalities. With that said, that owner made a historic mistake. I would have Kept Webb and got rid of Nelson.
I've never heard once that anybody including Don Nelson and the Warriors organization or any organization valuing Shawn Bradley over Chris Webber. Even before Shawn Bradley was deemed a bust, Chris Webber was above him in every draft board across the league. The Warriors having to settle for Chris Webber simply didn't happen under all circumstances.
I was confused about that myself. If the Warriors/Nelson wanted Bradley so badly, why didn’t they just take him/have the Magic take him #1? The only thing stopping them from getting Bradley was the Sixers at #2 and they just leapfrogged them. It doesn’t make any sense unless they valued Webber more than Bradley.
Nelson was head over heels for Bradley. One of his first moves after coming to Dallas was trading for him (I think it was the Mashburn trade?).... he was hell bent on building around Bradley, and Bradley finally breaking through and being an elite center. Shawn Bradley owes Don Nelson a lot. Without Nelson's man crush, Bradley is out of the league after the 96-97 season. Instead he played 8 more years, mostly because Nelson convinced Cuban that "this is the big man we need" like Obi Wan Kenobi. The Mavs were stuck with Bradley and an albatross of a salary bigger than the Morman big man.
@@gpk724 Orlando wouldn't trade the pick. Trade didn't go down till after Philly had already taken Bradley at 2 and the Warriors were already on the clock. The real question is, with Bradley off the board, why did Nelson give up Penny (pick 3) and 3 more future first rounders for Webber?
Shawn Bradley should have never been taken in first round, he was nothing special at BYU, and he was built like Chet, only without much skill besides blocking shots and being on way too many posters being dunked on, and being probably the most un-fun teammate… I never got why teams thought that beam pole was anything special and he would have not fit into the Warriors fast paced offense as he also had not athleticism
Nelson mortgages the franchise's future to draft Webber and then proceeds to insult and alienate him. This man is a genius.... right? It's gotta be some super strategy us small-minded plebians are incapable of understanding!

Matthew Doel: I’m an IU fan to the core and I’m really torn about him. Bobby Knight probably has the greatest basketball mind to ever walk the planet. He basically won championships with Isiah Thomas and a bunch of midwestern farmboys. That being said, he was/is a miserable human being, a narcissist, and a bully. He probably knows it too. His comment about “if you’re getting raped, you might as well lay back and enjoy it” should have gotten him fired on the spot. IU tolerated his BS because he was still hanging National Championship and Big Ten Championship banners and he had a cult-like following in the state of Indiana. But yeah, in retrospect, Bobby Knight should have been fired about ten years before he actually was. In the end, both Bobby Knight as well as Indiana University lost.
Wrong!!! Don Nelson was an underachiever. He had some loaded teams in the 80s and couldn’t even sniff an NBA Final. He was good with gimmicky teams, but didn’t know what to do with NBA championship talent while at Milwaukee. I bet Larry Brown could have went to the finals at least twice with the talent Don Nelson had. Chris Weber had a decent career and is probably one of the ten best power forwards in NBA history. Where would you rank Don Nelson all time as a coach? He doesn’t even come to mind as a coach at all to me.
I feel fans don't realize how important the relationship a rookie has with the organization can be in the first year. whether being hard or enabling mistakes or being cautious with development , the wrong system or approach can make or break a players entire career. Webber was probably a player that would've flourished on a team where the coach would push positive reinforcement but the leadership and tough love would come from the players themselves. Combined with not having big responsibilities wouldve been the best plan for Webber . forcing him to be responsible for teams success, being blamed for teams mistakes but still coming out as a top team damaged dudes psyche . and we got to see that man never get over the hump for 15 years even though he was an amazing player. he was traumatized by Nelson . it's funny to say that considering the entire team seemed to be successful in the whole. Webber's entire career would've been different had Nelson just passed on praise to Webber for getting that team to better situation. At least he would be aware that the tough remarks was to make him better but that if he DEMONSTRATES the improvement at least give him some credit. otherwise not playing him and not throwing so much at him would've been best. let him earn the time. then let him earn his stardom.
You didn't even mention the craziest part about Webber forcing his way off the team. When the Warriors traded him to Washington, they received three picks in addition to Tom Gugliotta. Two of those picks came via Orlando and were the SAME PICKS that the Warriors traded to draft Webber. They then used one of those picks to draft Tom Fuller ahead of Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Peja Stojakovic, and Jermaine O'Neal. They used the other pick to draft Vince Carter and traded him on draft night to Toronto for Antawn Jamison. So to summarize, the Warriors traded Penny Hardaway and three picks for two of those very same picks and then blew both of those drafts. The entire Webber fiasco literally set the Warriors franchise back a decade.

I think a great team to cover in your collapse series is the 2012-present orlando magic, and how the decisions they made set them back quite a lot(oladipo for ibaka and stuff like that)
Hey, you got your wish!
And then Shaq gets pissy that Penny is getting more attention and leaves him for Kobe... Feel sorry for Penny.
They both played on tha low block.. Tha Magic needed a PG
Reminder idea: Robert Horry Game 5 2005 NBA Finals
That '95 Warriors team will always be a great "what if?"
Indeed... there were the kings before Sacramento in 2000... Timmy, Mully, Spree, C-Webb, Ronny.... and Ricky Pierce as sixth man
@@AlbertoGonzalez-xn1lw Yeah, I didn't realize that they'd picked up Ronny. That's even more of a dream lineup. What a shame.
Need that scottie pippen/jordan vs isiah thomas beef
Have you not seen the last dance?
Good vid love them
I was a ball boy for the warriors back then & Nellie was trash. The GM sided with a .500 coach over a potential Hall of Famer. Spree & Webber had a stronger future than Timmy & Nellie.
Roy Jones vs Antonio Tarver or Bernard Hopkins beef history please! Love this channel & beef history!
I love when Clara does these. So good.
He's traded from GS and they dont make the playoffs for over a decade after. Brings the lowly Bullet/Wizards to the playoffs and comes close to finishing the Jordan Bulls (twice, i think) then makes the Kings into a title contender. Webber is underrated.
The Bullets played the Bulls once in the play offs and got swept in the first round. Just saying.
JORDAN = Drop 55 points on Chris Webber.
Great content as always
Sheeeeeeiiiiiiiiit, after all this, I'm surprised Webber didn't go off on Nellie the way Sprewell did Carlesimo
Clara Morris is one of my favorite people to listen to, to talk about sports. She needs a primetime sports talk show on ESPN or something haha
my high school coach got really made at us when we would put our hands on our knees to catch our breath because it's bad for airflow or whatever. Apparently that is what Webber did all the time and our coach would tell us to quite doing the chris webber and would make us run more if we did
I really like hearing Clara's voice, so soothing. keep it up!
You can practically hear her have an evil smile at 5:12
This is well done and explains it perfectly!
Shawn Bradley or Chris Webber. In hindsight (actually, even in real time) that comparison seems absurd
Facts sheesh
But seriously, can you imagine Webber and Shaq in Orlando? I think that might have actually changed the course of basketball history.
@@imightbebiased9311 maybe phil jackson doesn't get a 3rd three peat?
Nah Shaq would've left regardless
Bradley was a pretty decent center for quite some time. And the Warriors wanted a center. Might have worked out better for them.
C Webb was a beast at Sacramento. NBA Live 05 was a hell of a game with them. Just wish my best friend, Jeremy Dewayne Owens, were still here to see how it ended. Lost him in '06 to complications from Sickle Cell disease. Miss you, my brother. Every day 🙏❤️😥
Chris Webber, man. Dude could absolutely not catch a break
Did it to himself honestly. Terrible personality
Nate Cruz some of the blame but treating the future of your franchise like that just isn’t acceptable he had a personal grudge at a point if it’s just criticizing my game it’s ok you start talking about my pockets we are both men at that point it’s not player coach
Can’t wait to watch one of these in fifteen years about the 2017-2020 76ers.
Same
I do miss Seth doing this but great video

What would have happened if they chose Webber over nelly?
we would have missed out on that beautiful King's basketball

I don’t watch basketball, or even know the rules, but this series is so good ☺️
You absolutely should start, especially now.
Yeah defo start. So many intense games now!
Whoa! Great episode selection!!
Anyone else notice Webber talks toooooo damn much on 2k
Bro, Yes. On NBA 2K17. The guy legit went off topic and I was like this game is too damn accurate. Like i could not care less so its TOO REAL. 😂😂😂
Great commentary really
It’s not as bad as Bill Simmons rambling tangents
@@Riles3152 haha true
Here we go!
Well it still better then drafting Bradley:-)
please do one with rodman versus david stern
What's kind of ironic is that both Webber and Nelson were probably more alike than they were different. Both were 2 of the most talented ever in there respective field. Both won at some point wherever they went though never a championship (Webber and the kings should have and probably would have in 02 but thats another conversation) and both had complicated personalities. With that said, that owner made a historic mistake. I would have Kept Webb and got rid of Nelson.
Clara Morris is the best at writing and reading these "Beef" scripts.

Id love to see that
Webber was the most talented PF I've ever seen. Unfortunately injuries, bad luck, and off court issues hampered his legacy.
@@sammycampbell1654It was actually the Jim Jackson trade that landed them Shawn Bradley. Mashburn got traded for Kurt Thomas.
These beef videos are so good. Especially the commentators. Some entertaining stuff!
Nelson was a snake with those moves
Wrong coach got choked
How so
Lmao
Spree needs to see this
Nelson mortgages the franchise's future to draft Webber and then proceeds to insult and alienate him. This man is a genius.... right? It's gotta be some super strategy us small-minded plebians are incapable of understanding!
As a Warriors fan, I never forgave Nelson. This video downplayed how huge Webber was in college - the leader of the Fab Five
Who lost them the title because he lacked in-game awareness.
@@aaronst.pierre3080 except you can see his teammates yelling at him to call a time out and I also blame Steve Fisher for not being better prepared to beat a team they were more talented than (

I really hope you one day make a beef history with Ben Simmons and Jump Shots. Cause here in Philly, we've been ripping our hair out for years trying to understand why and/or how those two have been avoiding each other on the court for this long

Bobby Knight vs Indiana
Joe Gomez vs Raheem Sterling
29 MLB teams vs Rob Manfred and the Houston Asterisks

Don Nelson is a hall of fame coach and one of the greatest. Chris Webber is one of the greatest underachievers.
They both good but underachieved
@@broaddusmarines Facts
Can you please do AL DAVIS vs MARCUS ALLEN
