I’m halfway through this movie and her parents are so wrong they don’t care about their daughter they care more about the image of what the church/ friends and family will think!

I just discovered this on Lifetime yesterday. I am moved to tears! I can't believe this happens to people ! so upsetting and so happy she got out of her situation

I always wonder what happened to the simms family after the case? did they go to jail? did they get a restraining order? we gotta know what happened to them and the other kids they trapped there.

She did.
She told them what she knew about her girlfriend.
She was given more freedom, including going to school.
She made LGBTQ+ friends, and found a “safe” classroom.
One of her friends called a lawyer friend he had.
The lawyer friend agreed to help alex, but one day they talked a few minutes too long, she was a few minutes late to class.
The school told the “foster parents,” who went back to punishing her, not allowing her to go back to school.
A few days later, she was finally able to escape, made her way to school, and started getting help.

what would they do to her if she didn't listen? As in, what prevented her from acting out more in rebellion to what I presume is some sort of 'therapy' session 'forced on her' by I'm guessing her parents? _(I mean, if she already mentioned that if it was her choice she wouldn't be there, then what is holding her back from retaliating with saying something as simple as, "...and if I don't wear it, then what?" or is that just something more obvious and one would learn as a result of the character development which I am missing the context of?)_ Because, there's a "context" box above the Title of this video and it only told me about how conversation therapy is a discredited practice if it involves convincing someone to change their gender identity and doesn't give actual *context* about the characters such as why they're explaining themselves to these 2, who i initially thought were the parents but as it turns out was not; or what makes this scene so powerful when it seems the oppressors have come out victorious against the oppressed?

I would advise anyone in this situation to play along. Make them think your “converted” so they let you go. Ride out the storm until your 18. Keep your relationships on the Down low so you don’t get caught and then go and be free and live your life as you choose!

And as in the epilogue for the movie, too many who are rejected kill themselves.

This film makes me mad how the parents didn’t even support her own daughter.
I’m sorry but I have a real problem with people defending her parents. I know she loves her parents. Lots of kids who are abused still love their abusers. They want to hold on to the idea that they are cared for and loved. Her parents knowingly allowed their child to be beaten and tortured. If that’s what they call love then I hate to think of what they call evil!
I thought dance moms were about dancing but ok....
