      I’d love for you to show how to use the Stomp with the HX One. Like ad it the HX One in a block in the Stomp chain & have each program change to different settings & make the One be changed with midi from the Stomp.

    Hi Justin. I've had the Strymon Cloudburst for about a year, but could never figure out how to create & save custom Cloudburst presets and to call them up on my Helix using MIDI. (I'm a total MIDI noob!) The free Strymon Nexie2 software allowed for easy creation and saving of custom presets on my MacBook (the software also works with the Iridium, BigSky, TimeLine, and Mobius). But your video was the key for learning how to use the Helix MIDI capability to call up the saved Cloudburst presets per Snapshot. Thanks! Your video was a godsend!

      Hi! I don't have a Volante, but I'm sure the application is still the same: make sure the transmitting device (HX Stomp) and the receiving device (Volante) are on the same channel, use the Strymon manual to figure out what CC changes which parameters, or PC changes which presets on the Volante. Is there a specific use case you'd like to see?

      Use each instance (the lightning bolt) to send multiple commands to a single pedal. Just make sure each command is sending to the same MIDI channel for the receiving pedal.

      You're welcome! I set up each bank as a song (so each song has 2 presets on the Strymons), and each bank's presets has the same tempo setting. But if I'm using the same presets for multiple songs, I'll sending tap tempo from the HX Stomp to the Strymons via MIDI. Global Settings>MIDI Tempo and set Tx MIDI Clock to "MIDI". MIDI clock is a per preset parameter in the TimeLine, so you'll have to make sure that the presets you want to respond to MIDI clock have the MIDICL parameter set to ON in the PARAM menu.

    So keen to learn more.
    I have a very small pedalboard and I can’t afford more space for even a Morningstar MC3.
    Have you tried sending midi messages to hx stomp itself, along with the messages you are sending to the strymons?
    Basically I want to setup my dual switch to be sending a midi message for stomp mode (cc 71, value 0) and snapshot mode (cc 71, value 3) back to hx stomp. I’m just not sure if it will cause infinite loop on the strymons as the midi out of the last midi device in chain will be connected to the midi IN of the hx stomp.

    • @AllAboutWorshipGuitar
      @AllAboutWorshipGuitar  2 года назад

      Hi! Ah, ever the issue with pedalboard real estate, haha. I don't think you need to feed a MIDI cable from the last pedal back to the Stomp, with Command Center you could assign the MIDI CC and values to the dual switch.

    • @PraiseSonic

      @@AllAboutWorshipGuitar yup I did that. But when I press it, nothing happens.

    Or is the snapshot midi message fixed even if you change to another Hx stomp preset?

    • @AllAboutWorshipGuitar

      Hi! Yes you can. The Command Center is set up per preset, not global. Which is a little annoying cause you have to copy and paste your previous MIDI configuration on a new preset.

    Hi Justin. Question so I would use midi cables to run out from the stomp into the BigSky and use the out to go into the timeline correct?
    Also if I have a Jackson audio golden boy (similar to the broken arrow) could I run that into the stomp throw midi as well and have command center activate the drive stages on it?
    Thank you for putting up this video. I really want to get a Morningstar mc6 but kinda tight on my board. If you’d like I can DM you on IG.

    • @AllAboutWorshipGuitar
      @AllAboutWorshipGuitar  2 года назад +1

      Hi there! The MIDI signal chain order isn't really important if the pedals all have MIDI thru, which I think the Strymons and the Jackson have. What's important is that there is an unbroken chain from the MIDI source (HX Stomp in this case), then MIDI cables to each individual pedal. With the Jackson, I think it's possible! Just need to make sure the Stomp is transmitting on the same channel that the Jackson is listening to.

    • @rbarrera5151

      @@AllAboutWorshipGuitar thanks Justin. I was able to get the stomp to work with my Strymon pedals after a long time messing with it. Turns out that in the global settings you have to activate a cc through on snapshots to get this to work. I thinks this is worth noting otherwise it won’t work. I haven’t been able to set up my Jackson pedal yet since I need a 1/4 inch TRS cable to midi for now. At least until I get my Morningstar MC6 in the future. Thank you for this video it was SO helpful. Blessing Justin 🤜🏽🤛🏽

    Hi Justin! I’m having a bit of trouble getting my stomp to communicate with my strymons. I have a big sky and a timeline. I’m also controlling the stomp with a Jet Micro so I can toggle through my snapshots and presets. My question is what CC’s/PC’s and values do I need to set in command center to tell my strymons to turn on and off and what presets to be on? For example.. if I’m on snapshot 1 and I want preset 00B on in my timeline and 16B on in my big sky, how would I do that? Any help you can give me would be appreciated! I’m new to the world of midi and this is confusing!!! Thank you!

    • @AllAboutWorshipGuitar
      @AllAboutWorshipGuitar  2 года назад

      Hi Nic! Indeed it can be confusing. I'm not sure what happens when there are two controllers on the board (your Jet Micro being one MIDI controller) and whether it will conflict with the HX Stomp.
      Let's first ensure they're all communicating on their own separate MIDI channels. I'm not sure what the Jet Micro is configured to, but if the HX Stomp needs to receive MIDI from Channel 1, make sure that the Strymons are receiving MIDI from Channel 2 and 3 (TimeLine and BigSky respectively). As the video explains, there can be up to 6 commands sent simultaneously per snapshot, so assuming you want bypass control AND patch changes on two devices, you need 4 instances (the lightning bolts in Command Center) set up.
      For example, on Snapshot 1, set Instant 1 as follows: Program Change, MIDI channel 2 (for the TimeLine), Program #1 (for TimeLine 00B). This will get HX Stomp to trigger 00B on the TimeLine. I share the exact configuration layout at the end of the video that you can copy: ruclips.net/video/HPdLdOcImpw/видео.html, just change the MIDI channels to 2 and 3 for your TL and BS respectively.

    • @danelleyocco5851
      @danelleyocco5851 2 года назад +1

      So I ended up figuring it out and everything works together. In order to use the jet micro with the stomp as it is designed, you have to go into the global settings on the stomp and make sure the midi tx is set to “off”, not “thru”. If it’s set to thru then it will bank up through your presets not only on your stomp but also on your strymons.
      The hardest part to figure out was programming PC’s and CC’s. I’ve never done it before and couldn’t find the right combination of numbers. Through a lot of trial and a lot of error I finally got it.
      Now my stomp is set to stomp mode, so I can have access to OD’s and modulation, while my micro changes through snapshots and presets. Then my stomp tells my strymons (big sky, timeline) what presets to turn on based on with song I’m playing. It’s amazing! No more tap dancing at the beginning of every song. Super easy.
      Thanks for replying! God Bless!

      You’re correct except I think it starts from the HX Stomp MIDI out to the first Strymon MIDI in. There’s no need to loop back to the HX Stomp MIDI in unless one of the Strymons is sending a PC or CC change.

    Hi Justin, with the Stomp switches being designated for 3 snapshots, how are you moving through gain stages during live worship?

    • @AllAboutWorshipGuitar
      @AllAboutWorshipGuitar  Год назад

      Hi! Actually, I set it up to be in Footswitch mode, and designate one FS in Command Center to move up Snapshots which control my gain (Snapshot 1 - Overdrive bypass, Snapshot 2 - Overdrive on, Snapshot 3 - Overdrive gain turned up). The other FS is vacant for another effects bypass, or to turn up my delay (my usual). FS3 will be tap/tuner. Alternatively, I have the Stomp slaved to my Ableton session and use MIDI clips to change Snapshots.

      Oh that too. For the purpose of the video, I show the capability of being able to change presets with snapshots. But on the usual Sunday I don’t need that many presets on the Strymons, and usually have the same presets for the whole set, leaving me to change gain with snapshots

      @@AllAboutWorshipGuitar I see. So basically you have shown two different ways to approach it….. Hypothetically, if I had an external switch connected to HX stomp so that snapshots could be controlled by the external switch…. And therefore open up the switches on the HX stomp to allow for using them with stomp mode and assigning gain pedal to them…..while at the same time doing the midi stuff that you did in this video….. would that actually be the best of both worlds? Basically, be able to do what this video shows while also being able to easily control gain stages? Does that make sense?

    Hello nice interesting video! I have a question: I own an Iridium and would like to expand it with modulation and overdrive effects to put before and after. I thought of hx stomp XL so as to control the midi part without buying a controller. Does that sound like a good choice? Do you have any suggestions for them? How are the modulations of the hx stomp? I see that you have so many strymon effects. Thanks a lot

    • @AllAboutWorshipGuitar
      @AllAboutWorshipGuitar  Год назад

      Hi Mauro, thank you for the kind words! Yes, the Stomp XL is an excellent choice, and with the Iridium, you have a very powerful combo! Without amp processing, the Stomp XL will have the DSP for much more processing-hungry effects. Line 6 modulation effects are fantastic. I used to own a vintage Electro Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress, and the equivalent Line 6 model sounds EXACTLY like it. I'm also able to recreate the modulation tones I hear from boutique pedals, all included in the box, no need to buy external effects.
      As for suggestions, I would experiment putting the Iridium in the FX loop of the Stomp XL, which will open up the flexibility of adding effects before and after it. Or, if you have a breakout dual mono TS to TRS cable, you could put the Iridium after your Stomp XL to maximize the number of effects blocks on the Stomp, but that also means running all effects pre-Iridium. That could be a cool sound; one of the "standard" worship signal chains is to front-load the amps with everything including delay and reverb for that crunched wet section sound.

    • @maurocasanova9929

      @@AllAboutWorshipGuitar Thanks for your reply. The limited power of the hx stomp processor is an important issue I didn't know about. Everyone says it has amp+cab sounds even more beautiful than Iridium. Mostly having never used midi, knowing that hx stomp can be a controller allows me to save money, space and various cables.
