"Just ain't right:" Florida murder suspect now accused of illegally towing vehicles

- Polk Sheriff Grady Judd gives details on the investigation into the owners of a Mulberry towing company accused of illegally towing vehicles from a Lakeland mobile home park. The investigation started after one of the company owners was charged with murdering a man at his tow yard.
Polk County investigators said Michael and Elissa Denn own Strapped Towing and illegally towed vehicles at the Stoll Manor Mobile Home Park in Lakeland.
Grady said the couple's actions took advantage of "poor, hardworking people trying to make ends meet."

I had my car stolen , and police discovered it , the police had it towed to a yard. And i had to pay to have my (stolen) car returned to me.
I consider this theft even from the tow company. It is a necessary evil i suppose.

It's not the training, it's the follow-up and the supervision. You can have the best trainers in the world but if those cops are allowed to run wild, all that training is worthless.

I knew a guy that would use his tow truck to steal people's vehicles, then take them to a scrap yard at the port that would chop them into three pieces and get them out of the country as fast as possible. Disgusting.
He's in prison, but the port should be investigated also for accepting 100% functional vehicles, and had to know that the paperwork was forged. All he did was pay a homeless person to sign it SMH.
ive only met 1 who are actual down to earth people they have towed so much stuff for me they give me discounts for being a regular when their prices went up

In Abilene, Tx they omit, hide, and won't report anything that happens in the trailer home sections. The female cops are notorious for hiding and won't respond to crime here. They erased all history of a sex offender doing his nasty work at a YMCA on State st in 2018. They closed it down. I would like all police stations to get out what is really going on like Grady Judd.

Hell, just the orange grooves across from the Heart of Florida in Davenport is a great place for a meth lab. Anyplace along US 27 is a nice spot.

i think a good start would be electing him VP in 2024 so he can root out corruption in the government and bring charges through the president's office, starting in the FBI itself. and then yes, through the justice department, being establishing national guidelines to prevent corruption all the way to the local level. i trust him to clean house and set America on a moral and virtuous path again.

But...if this is jury tainting, why haven't ANY of the defense attorneys brought a motion to change venue or filed a motion to quash? Or, better yet, filed suit to make him stop doing these pressers? Here's why.. Because he is very careful to say nothing more than what is available thru a FOIA request (freedom of information act). And, there is no difference than if he was to sit in his office and give individual interviews to each journalist, which is what most Sheriff's do. Essentially, the only way to stop this would be for the SCOTUS to place a Permanent Gag Order on EVERY cop across the nation... And I dont see that happening with the current geopolitical mess going on. Peace ✌
As much as I love this Sheriff is this not prejudicial to an upcoming trial?. Particularly when he says they were 'technically right' but 'morally wrong'. I agree with that but 'technically right' does mean lawful. This is essentially his opinion.

The Sheriff does such a good job explaining his perception of a situation and that in itself tells you he cares! He understands the "stand your ground" also and does a good job explaining those detail to people!

How many "towing companies" are there nationwide who ruthlessly
and egregiously rip the poor off by creating every shady excuses like this? Too many!
How many victims actually would or could bring such cases to the attention of law enforcement or even
bother themselves to check out whether or not the business is legit? very few or none! Everyone in those unfortunate incidents only thinks of getting their vehicles back (by making any amount of payment required!) - this case probably came to the limelight only because some graver crime was committed!
Please inform/teach everyone how to enforce their rights against such EXTORTIONS - do not even call it a "business"!!

I'm from new Zealand.. and I'm very impressed with the sheriff and what he has to say. I'm completely standing behind these fine officer's. It's plain and simple. The tow company broke the law and a man lost his life from being shot in the back of the head, I'm discusted by the way the tow company did there work.. and I'm sure happy to know that tow vehicle will be used for police department work.. the evidence so far shows a dirty tow company has been operating for a while. I'd love to know how many other people have been ripped off by the company. . I bet there's hundreds of people who have been walked on by these low life minipulaiteing hard working scum. In these press conferences it really seems that way doesn't it? Don't get me wrong, I live here and the last few years I've seen a great positive effect on this part of the state under his leadership, but everybody forgets all the corruption and blood that was on his hands when he was coming up that always got swept under the rug because his family ties that were his seniors in the sheriff's office, city commissions, state attorneys office, politicians and most importantly the Ku Klux Klan

It would be interesting to know what would happen to a deputy in this county that undertook a search of a person's property without a warrant, because that's almost exactly what that tow company was doing.

For those that don't know, "strapped" is slang for "carrying a gun." So this guy felt like it was important to make that information part of his business name. It's really not surprising that a guy like that would be involved in predatory and illegal business practices and then end up murdering someone.

My dad was a tow man and he refused to do repossessions. He was also very cool with letting people get their car back. He didn’t go out like these people looking to take advantage of innocent people.
@John Dillermand yeah, he told a couple stories about crazy coworkers being absolute ass clowns this was so long ago and he is deceased so I can’t ask him again what they were about. He was an awesome person. He smoked weed and blasted Metallica and other bands on way to drop me off at kindergarten. He didn’t smoke weed on way to kindergarten. Lol He also wasn’t my bio dad or my step dad. He and my mother were never sexually intimate. My bio dad wasn’t in my life and my step dad was good guy but very quiet person. He met my mom when they were teenagers. My mom was 17 pregnant with my older sister. I was born a year later. When they met he had just been jumped. My mom, aunts and memaw were sitting on front porch and saw him all bloodied up. They fixed him up gave him something to eat and from that day forward he was a close family friend who was in every way a dad to me.
Your dad probably had the big wrecker in which he pulled vehicles up onto a bed with chain and wench. Much safer for everybody and less likely to damage the towed vehicle. These assholes had the scoop arm modified truck that can tow away a vehicle in less than 60 seconds and often damages the vehicle.

@@rush1er I think his main truck was a flat bed but I’m sure he has driven several different kinds. His had to stop towing because he was doing a tow and he was pulling the car onto the flat bed. I’m not sure exactly what happened but something on the car or the chain on tow truck snapped and the car came rolling down on him. His foot was pretty much hanging off his leg just held on by skin and soft tissue. He was obviously immobile and was put on workman’s comp or disability. After that he pretty much got depressed got addicted to pain killers than started drinking which was weird because he was just a weed guy nothing else so it was weird seeing him drunk as hell. He straightened out a little in last few years of his life but because of pain and addiction always took pain meds. His heart gave out on him in end. Best father figure in my life next to my granddaddy.
