Never bought the newest clubs even the one I got fitted were 2 years old and I still love them!
It enters into buyers minds because of residual value, which drops once the new clubs come out.
Back in July I was fit to a Qi10, however it was already on my mind that it would be replaced before next season. So I waited and got a GT, knowing it was on a 2 year cycle. I don't change driver often 3 or 4 years. In 3 years time my GT with only be one generation old and still worth some money.
Slightly panicked when I saw this title as I literally bought Wilson CB irons 2 days ago. Had Mizuno hot metals since 2009 when I was a 22 handicap. Now at 9 and went for a fitting. Liked the Mizuno pro 243's and Titleist T150's but the Wilson's were fantastic. So happy
Wilson is such an underrated brand. Which is great for tight asses like me, I get great clubs for less than half the price, because they're always on clearance!
I picked up a brand new D9 3 wood and 3 hybrid last month for AUD $180 and $130 respectively.
That's about 160 quid, or USD $200, for two brand new woods.
Callaway Mavrik and Rogue, or TaylorMade Sim and Stealth woods are more than double, sometimes closer to triple the price. But I don't hit them any further, or straighter.
Those Wilson CBs are absolutely gorgeous
Wilson so underrated they go for a 2 year cycle too.
Were the cbs less forgiving than t150?
@@MrKnockout66 for me both the cb's and t150's felt great to hit. It wasn't until I looked at the groupings on trackman that I realised the cb's shots were closer together. The t150 grouping was very good but my shots with the cb's were amazing
On another note. Why weren't you both up at the wilson launch at Troon? I work there and catered for all your pals on the Internet. They had a great time by all accounts
Only new club I've bought in the last 6 years are wedges, spider tour x putter, and the new gt3 driver. I love my gt3 man.
Many club reviewers, such as yourselves, strongly advocate custom fitting when buying golf clubs, to go through the customs fit process you have to consider new golf clubs. Buying used clubs potentially means buying someone else’s fitting.
Wait for the new relese anbuy the one being replaced at a discount. If you time it right you can still get fitted. Win win.
IDK I picked up a set of Cobra Aerojet irons new for $360 and the 3 wood for $120. If you’re looking for deals on previous releases it’s a great time. I would also like to see Cobra to the Ping route on releasing new models - so think trying to compete with TaylorMade and Callaway should be their goal.
Ping are due to replace the G430 irons, so it might be time for deals on them soon.
Best value and great clubs Wilson, best at keeping their value Ping. Prices though are getting silly and they do depreciate greatly especially the premium brands.
I’ve just ordered a set of callaway apex cb irons to replace my PXG 0311 P simply where I have dropped my handicap and want clubs I can control more than long distance irons. Currently I hit my 7 iron 190 and would be happy dropping to 170 (the reading I got at the fitting) with a tighter distance dispersion. My driver, woods, wedges and putter will not change for sometime (wedges first possibly due to wear)
Spend your money on Putter or Wedge or even Lessons
Spend your money on what you need(budget dependent) and lessons. Just bought a new QI10 cause I needed one, not because I thought it will help me get another 3 yards
Couldn't agree more about spending on the putter. I was 25hc using a really shoddy 2nd hand putter. Got myself a white hot brand new for my 30th birthday and since then I've gone to a 19hc. I feel so much more confident putting now
I was rocking a mullet, switched to a Scotty and I stopped 3 putting 😅
Love this , two very wise heads there .
I do agree with you all guys. Great question. But I find it an advantage. Every 18 months I change my clubs, but 18 months from the time I bought them. So driver and fairway, irons, putter, wedges. I buy them at different points over that 18 months. I play all year round, and this is my passion and drive to improve by stay up to date. If that makes sense!?
You replace you clubs every 18 months ? Manufacturers dream right here 😂
This Is actually the best time to buy clubs with all the great used clubs out here and the online access to purchase at and far below retail this is the best time in history imo for the common weekend golfers like myself...
They’re talking about brand new clubs.
I'm a newer player just started this season my question is should I look at buying pre owned now? Or wait a month for potentially a black friday type deal, I haven't golfed around this time before so idk how good the sales are if any
If you know what suits you, I would go second hand or ex demo, and get a groove sharpener. If not, get yourself fitted but check internet first for last seasons model. Dont get fitted into the latest model if you are budget conscious. Like the guys say, changes are incremental.
Literally just bought my first brand new set of p790s 2 weeks ago lol. Rip
Price of new golf clubs is too high. How about doing a calculation of how much they should cost ?
Get fitted now buy in a few months when the prices drop as the new models come out and the prices drop but options are still available. Also you know what the real dogs are if any when they have been around a year.
Two points, one, cost of the major brands, how much is R&D, how much sponsored pro's costs? Two, how do retailers, both large and small, cope with price cuts, after new clubs are released?
They’ve effectively cornered themselves with release times being after the new year. Most seasons end before December and I know personally the end of the season is when I’m looking for a change. If I wait for new release, in my life, I’ll probably be getting fit at an incorrect time with regards to where my game is. So how am I to keep myself warm with a limited season for months until the next release.?? They’re better of releasing next years stuff early by shifting their R&D timeline
My Black ops driver is the best driver I have had and will not be changing for the next few years.
PING, please make a 9° SFT
Would have been great if you both could have just said that overall/pricewise, this has become one of the WORST times to buy ANY new top brand club. While many retailers are now lowering prices, the major players in the golf industry are dramatically raising theirs, with marginal improvement at best in performance. This is unsustainable! If this continues the DTC and component sellers are going to have a field day gaining market share. Come on, guys, afraid to bite the hand that feeds you??
Never buy anything taylor made… simply because quality control
I’ve never understood why golf companies don’t release stuff Dec 1st. Capture the market for Xmas.
Nobody thinks about golf when there is ice outside. It would lose momentum into the next golf season.
@@brandoncarpenter9681 yes they do.
After gaming takomo clubs after owning taylormade p760s , pings, Calloway apex I don’t think I’ll ever buy a big brand iron again.
I’m a 30 handicap and if any driver company could make a driver that would help me find the fairway 80% of the time I would buy it.
If you're a 30 hcp you just need the right flex shaft and then many golf lessons. Tech isn't worth it you won't notice.
Me watching this having 3 sets of hammy down clubs and only club I’ve ever bought being a cheap 60 degree
5 year old clubs , try 30 year old clubs Matt!
Suppose I’m due an upgrade , I’ll wait till after new year and see what everyone has sold to golf bidder
5 yards 3 more fairways is the way to go. New and shinny isn’t
Ping is king!
For those who can’t swing they play Ping!
@@DMKFACTOR those who don’t play Ping, know nothing!
@@andybt3989 Relax Francis, it’s a JOKE! Like you!
@@andybt3989 The only people that play Ping are the elderly, beginners, high handicappers, and people paid to! They sound like you’re hitting a golf ball with a garbage can lid! Judging by your picture, clearly you’re in the elderly category! I was a beginner once and owned Ping G20 series. Worst performing sounding and looking clubs I’ve ever owned!
@@DMKFACTORno bigger joke than you! Richard Head!
Prices are ridiculous that's my thing with clubs. I know they have engineers working on tech etc etc. But let's say I hire engineers to create the best lemonade and use "premium" lemons and I would sell it let's says 10$ a glass, I wouldn't sell a single one. Why do people buy overpriced clubs?
Good time to buy used golf clubs
At this point it’s all cosmetic
Lads I'm just about to buy t150 irons from my pro fitted should I wait ???
Yes
Titleist are a two year cycle, woods one year, irons the next. GT woods have just been released so new Titleist irons will be august 2025.
TSR3 will be I the bag for atleast 2 more years. When the new titleist driver comes out.
I bought the TSR3 ex demo when GT came out. That’s in my bag for min of 2yrs
