My biggest problem with LIV is that the organization isn’t trying to make money. It’s not competing against the PGA as a tour that is profitable. They have unlimited money to pay players to leave without having to profit from revenue. This is a PR move more than anything.
@@csnide6702 Yes the PGA does have a tour card you have to earn and they do tell players where to play every week of a tournament. Every sports league tells the teams who can play where.
The PGA is so corrupt and so powerful, they don’t share anything with the players and won’t even pay for golfers to taxi from the course to the airport. If you don’t make the cut, you don’t make a dollar
A few things: The typical capacity at the 16th hole is around 20,000 (daily). Pro golfers are independent contractors who are given the choice of the PGA TOUR or sign with LIV. There’s a big difference though, with the tour they actually have some freedom unlike those with LIV who are obligated to play where and when they are told. Some golfers want to “have their cake and eat it too” desiring to play both, this is what the tour opposes. Ultimately, make your choice and live with it.
you are very correct keith on all points - recognize that the ones that went to LIV -got paid an awful lot of money for it - and as you notice they are unable to be content with that - speaks much more about those individuals than anything else.
What they forgot to mention: The history of golf through the PGA Tour(Records, Stats, etc.) is devalued and will depreciate the more successful LIV becomes. And it goes much further than that.
Augusta is letting LIV come play at the national. That means a lot when it’s one the most popular golf tournaments in the world. Us local folks in Augusta thought it would never happen. Shit, they didn’t even let a women member in until a few years ago. I guess money talks. I don’t have a problem with it
If LIV Golf gets a network television deal, they will eclipse most weekly PGA tournament telecasts. All the best and exciting stars are playing the LIV tour.
You may be right but there are so few events. Don't you think it will get boring seeing the same names on the leaderboard every week? I think one of the things that's great about the PGA is that there's an event EVERY week. Players come in and out depending on the prize money obviously but it does diversify the field.

Theyve seen what going for the quick bucl has done to all the other sports that have changed to "grow the audience" and how they have to keep changing because its never good enough. Look how much baseball has changed in the past 20 or so years. Seems all fake at this point. How many game 7s are there in sports now? Seems very unlikely it went from a rarity to a regularity. I mean come on
LIV Golf players are paid an undisclosed signing fee along with additional prize money depending on their rank in the tournaments. As per reports, the contract Phil Mickelson signed with LIV Golf is to be worth $200 million. Dustin Johnson reportedly agreed to a fee of $150 million and Bryson DeChambeau fetched $100 million.
I wish they would have touched on the fact that PGA didn't have any guaranteed money to play in these tournaments. I would have liked to have heard Joe's view on that
Because it's about skill. The PGA doesn't invite people to play, they have to qualify for tournaments.
@@rand0me and once they qualify they should be paid plain and simple. Literally the only professional sport that you can show up and not get paid... And they changed it btw so now all golfers get paid some money regardless of if they make the cut or not. So they know they were wrong, which goes back to what he was saying about them being stuck and rooted in tradition
@@spencerplummer8002 no, they shouldn’t. I have played competitively my whole life and the idea, the PRESSURE of playing and not getting paid is a part of what separates pro golf from other pro sports…
You want paid, produce…plain and simple.
@@spencerplummer8002 why ? It is a pure meritocracy….. and that’s how pure competition in sport works. Or should work.
@@acbower4468 I disagree if you've put in the time and money to get to that level like these guys have they deserve to be reimbursed. Stop sticking up for the rich elitist they have more than enough to compensate these guys even if it doesn't cover their costs completely they deserve something for putting in the work to get there. Could you imagine a football player getting signed to a team and playing on Sunday and then because he has 3 fuck ups he doesn't get paid for the day, or a fighter in MMA shows up and gets knocked out and he doesn't get a paycheck at all!? It's insanity, their punishment for mediocrity should be they don't get to be pros anymore it shouldn't be they don't get paid at all. Eventually just getting show up pay will weed out the contenders from the pretenders.
Went to LIV in Bedminster during the summer, so much fun
This is what the Portnoy interview should’ve been
The thing incredibly annoying w/ golf is how quiet you have to be while they hit. A comedian routined: 'look at baseball; you have to hit a ball flying towards you upto 100mph w/ an entire stadium of screaming fans, but w/ golf, the ball is stationary & have to be dead quiet'. Doesn't make sense
"Go to Snopes" said no intelligent person ever....

Where a lot of the controversy is coming in to play, is counting for world rankings. It’s like a company has fights like the UFC but it’s only one five minute round, and those fighters are being included in the world rankings.

I think learning to golf is less important in business world than it was in the past, but you want to be ready to accept an invitation to golf bc it does create a great opportunity to talk casually and build familiarity
I have told my wife to execute me on site in the most brutal way if she ever catches me playing golf.
Can't we just get food instead? Stop wasting my time
Agree 100%. I'm sure some deals still get done on the course and golf is great way to get a client alone for 4 hours. However, most high producers don't have that kind of time to spend. Business moves 10x faster these days.
@@kirkworthley3221 LOL, (10X) is so Samuel Bank-Fried. He didn't golf either.

16 usually holds 15-16k fans per day. Only a small part is “come and go” the open seats. Everything under a canopy you have to have a pass to get into and it’s expensive. The entire tournament hosts an absurd number of people, I believe around 3/4 million lol. It’s insane

They like to play golf because you can learn a lot about someone's personality by doing so. How aggressive they are, how they react under pressure, how competitive they are. It puts you in situations that really shows more about who they are.
That's basically any sport
@@freedfree7933 to some extent yes. This sport is more of an individual sport rather than a team sport though. It has plenty of down time when chasing your ball around the course.

' Have fun' I've seen a LIV golf contract that a golfer posted and it was a fkn nightmare! It was much more prescriptive than PGA contracts.
What he said about Zion Williamson is hilarious.
That golf doc is getting great reviews at the moment
Can’t believe he spent 14min talking about Liv but didn’t mention Cam Smith, the best golfer on the planet.

Its generic talk. Kind of what I expect from JRE
Joe knows nothing about golf and Santino very little, they just know its a viral topic for a good clip.
Behind McIlroy right?
When I was at IBM, I missed out on info and deals because I DIDNT play golf
Cheeseburger was great! Glad to see him making his rounds
When I was in college, one of my dormmates asked me to teach him how to play golf. I asked why and he said he is a business major and the majority of deals made are on the links. Additionally, I know people with golf memberships, solely for business purposes.
This is true. I know dudes that wanted to learn golf so they could connect more with guys at the office.
Santino is definitely the type of dude that would perform for a Dictator or their kids.
You wouldn't? Ive seen interviews with singers , rappers, rock starts talking about getting paid a few million and getting a Lamborghini or expensive jewelry for playing for an hour and getting flown in on private jet. I wish I had some kind of singing talent and was asked to perform at one of their kids parties...youll be set for life.

Recent reports are that many LIV golfers are miserable and regretting their decision.
My biggest problem with LIV is that the organization isn’t trying to make money. It’s not competing against the PGA as a tour that is profitable. They have unlimited money to pay players to leave without having to profit from revenue. This is a PR move more than anything.
no... its Best vs Best - unlike PGA who wants to dictate who can play where.
@@csnide6702 Yes the PGA does have a tour card you have to earn and they do tell players where to play every week of a tournament. Every sports league tells the teams who can play where.
PGA tour is a nonprofit.
@@A-FrameWedge That doesn’t mean they can lose unlimited amounts of money.

Going to Snopes for answers is like going to your magic 8 ball that only has yes and maybe 😂
Another truth hater.
The PGA is so corrupt and so powerful, they don’t share anything with the players and won’t even pay for golfers to taxi from the course to the airport. If you don’t make the cut, you don’t make a dollar
A few things:
The typical capacity at the 16th hole is around 20,000 (daily).
Here's the best solution:
*PLAY DISC GOLF*
To hell with the most pretentious, snobby game in existence....
Obsessive Joe will get addicted to golf, practice relentlessly, and win the 2025 Masters.
as he gets older hell get into it for sure
What they forgot to mention: The history of golf through the PGA Tour(Records, Stats, etc.) is devalued and will depreciate the more successful LIV becomes. And it goes much further than that.
Jamie actually turns the camera on himself for a sec during this podcast. would be cool to see him more

Augusta is letting LIV come play at the national. That means a lot when it’s one the most popular golf tournaments in the world. Us local folks in Augusta thought it would never happen. Shit, they didn’t even let a women member in until a few years ago. I guess money talks. I don’t have a problem with it
I've been watching golf for years. I only realised they could never wear shorts in the PGA once I watched LIV lol

Bring on the competition baby. Love LIV for that. I’ll keep watching both.
If LIV Golf gets a network television deal, they will eclipse most weekly PGA tournament telecasts. All the best and exciting stars are playing the LIV tour.
You can't be serious!
No way. Although I do watch LIV for cameron smith
Tiger, Rory and Hovland come to mind quick for some reason.
That's a big if. That's the only way to really monetize their tour. Problem is no sponsors are willing to bite.. yet
You may be right but there are so few events. Don't you think it will get boring seeing the same names on the leaderboard every week? I think one of the things that's great about the PGA is that there's an event EVERY week. Players come in and out depending on the prize money obviously but it does diversify the field.
I hate the liv golf thing. I hope it goes away soon.

Golf has always been bigger than both the PGA and LIV, and any other tour where the game is grown through excelling at the game. My only hope, as an instructor and speaking also for Golf Course workers out there in general, that both of them can get their heads out of their asses and do more for public course growth/preservation, wages, and more localized help. That's where Golf's bigger picture is.
