Viewer Question: Parker Shelon - Hey John! It's just been announced via Deadline that Ryan Coogler is set to develop and direct a series based in the kingdom of Wakanda for Disney Plus. The series is part of a five year exclusivity deal between Coogler's Proximity Media and Disney Plus, which will allow Proximity to create TV for various divisions of Disney for their streaming platform. This is an interesting idea, and I'm curious to see where it goes. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it has potential? Thanks!

This is a GREAT move in the light of Chadwick Boseman's death. It would've been an interesting concept and series regardless but with the death of Boseman & Marvel's decision to not recast T'Challa you need to make Wakanda the main character of this franchise for now. If this series is a hit & you've seen the man or woman who will eventually take the mantle of Black Panther grown into that role that's when you roll out Black Panter II in theaters.

  • @Lycosyncer

Well, it sounds to me that Ryan Coogler is definitely going to be set for a long while because not only is he going to develop a Black Panther spinoff series centering on the other aspects of Wakanda but it's been said that he will also potentially help oversee not only other MCU Disney+ shows but also other shows in Disney's other platforms as well? Sounds like a great deal if you ask me and if Coogler is interested in developing a TV series not connected to Black Panther and the MCU and instead wants a new unrelated show to come out on Hulu and FX, he may have the chance to do so and for Disney, the more high in demand titles not related to their biggest family friendly brands and instead have the hottest primetime adult and mature content on Hulu and FX? The better it makes them more appealing to adult audiences.
With all of the excitement about the Wakanda spinoff judging by how it might have came out of what Coogler had developed for Black Panther 2, it's still a terribly sad shame that Chadwick Boseman is no longer around to be a part of this as he would have loved to be a part of it too. As for the other MCU Disney+ shows that Coogler may get involved with besides the Wakanda spinoff, something tells me that he may have some involvement in Armor Wars, Ironheart, and Secret Invasion and by any chance of luck, possibly an X-Men series spinoff as well.

This is a fantastic deal for Ryan Coogler, who will be set for life and his family for many generations to come. I don't see any negatives here. • @benm5970

I feel like Ryan Coogler’s directing career with the MCU and his original movies are gonna be working in tangent with one another, he’s gonna make the big money with the MCU and with that money he’ll be able to finance the smaller movies that he’ll do on the side similar to Christopher Nolan, I don’t think his focus will be solely on the MCU, which is good, given how he started his career making smaller dramas it’s probably a good idea for him to still be able to do those and not now be permanently locked into making big blockbuster movies, I think this sounds like a pretty cool idea, I thought the first Black Panther movie was great and it seemed like a world where you could explore a lot of cool new ideas in, in fact it sounds like it could be Marvel’s version of Game Of Thrones, which sound really cool to me, it does raise the question of is T’Challa still gonna be a part of it, right now I’m probably gonna say no because if they’re still gonna have T’Challa in the MCU there’s still the matter of recasting the role, and I feel like that too big to do on TV, you probably need to save that for the big screen, so I like this idea, the world of Wakanda seems like a place that you can greatly expand upon and tell a lot of interesting stories in, so I’m on board for this

Kevin Feige has confirmed the unfortunate rumor that many of us Marvel fans have been dreading. The shot callers at Marvel Studios have elected not to find a worthy thespian to embody the coveted role of T’Challa and pick up where the late, great Chadwick Boseman left off. Black Panther II and the cinematic future of one of our most beloved superheroes have been intentionally derailed. T'Challa needed to be recast, not sacrificed to prop up an objectively inferior successor. Second-rate allocation ain't supposed to be the name of the game. It is unforgivable for Marvel Studios to cave to the BS idea that an actor's real life journey should determine the ultimate fate of a universally recognized fictional character. Rest in peace, Sir Chadwick, but that particular creative decision is indefensible and asinine. This is not the way to honor Mr. Boseman, nor the immortal Black Panther legacy. King T’Challa predates Chad’s memorable portrayal by a whopping 50 years of firmly established comic book history and glory. No matter what happens to an actor, fictional icons must be permitted to march ever forward with pride, not blacklisted from the silver screen and silenced indefinitely. Simply unacceptable. May this be a teachable moment for these so-called Hollywood heavyweights. They damn well better put some respek on his name. T'Challa was, is, and always will be the one true King of Wakanda. Accept no substitutes.
    POINT BLANK PERIOD.

Steady stream of revenue for his company during these uncertain times is good! But, it still leaves him open to do other things. I'm sure he will delegate a lot of the hands on stuff to very capable people, while overseeing things.

He has that Judas movie coming up for WB & WB is really moving neck to neck with Disney. It was only a matter of time before he was s snatched by another movie studio. This was clearly a lock-in deal.
