I am far from a doctor but...when I get acid reflux that comes up my throat into my mouth, it seems really acidic. So I came up with the idea of 'nutralising' the acid using alkaline. So what I do is get a heaped teaspoon of bi-carb soda mix it in a little water and drink it. Instantly I get relief, you end up doing a few BIG burps but it seems to neutralize the acid and it basically goes away. I know bicarbonate soda is no fancy drug, but nothing I've ever got from the chemist (over the counter) had ever made any difference. The bi-carb works amazingly, giving instant relief. I wonder what Dr. Moran thinks of my backyard treatment? PS thanks for your videos, they have provided a lot of good advice in regards to Covid and the facts surrounding it. Colin
I have Barrett’s esophagus, took Omeperazol for YEARS and then began feeling extremely fatigued and quite ill. None of my Drs. could figure it out. I happened to have an appointment scheduled with my Gastro Dr. and told him about it. He ran several blood tests and one came back extremely high. It was Chromogranin A. Normal range is 0-95. Mine clocked in at 2,921. I had to have scans done to see if I had a neuroendocrine tumor. That came back negative. I was immediately taken off the PPI as that was the cause. I now take cimetidine. It doesn’t work as well BUT I feel immensely better physically than I did while on the PPI.
When I suffer from reflux which can be often, I take apple cider vinegar , water and baking soda. Works all the time. 2 ounces ACV, 3 or 4 ounces of water to dilute the vinegar (because it doesn't taste very good ) and then stir in (tall glass) one level t-spoon of baking soda. Stir quickly and drink while if fizzles. Tastes ok and works and is absolutely not expensive. Try it.
Suffered for many years & tried several PPI's till Lansoprazole worked. I've been on it for 25+ years & not aware of any adverse results. I get "scoped" every 5 years or so. Your explanation was the best I've heard.
This is really great information! I started PPI about a year ago and just found out I have osteopenia in a hip! I stopped the PPI 6 days ago as soon as I found a correlation between PPI and bone loss... but got heartburn this morning following a breakfast of coffee, two brown eggs scrambled with green & yellow squash, onion, bay leaf and turmeric. I did not know I could take 1/2 of the PPI pill. I will try to do without the PPI but I certainly will not take any of the osteopenia medication... they sound far too risky. I am trying bone building alternatives like exercise and weight lifting and not eating grains. I am having other arthritis pain in knees also. By the way, I started being so much more forgetful when I started the PPI to the point where I spoke to my doctor about it so I know this all happened about the same time. I think side effects of PPIs should be studied more with respect the to relationship of bone loss and memory problems.
After years of severe heartburn, I had an endoscopy. The doc told me there was some inflammation & I could take a pill every day. So the next day I decided to eat smaller meals. Luckily, that worked for me. No pain in the past 6 months.
With all due respect to the doctor, I'm feeling he's too friendly to PPIs, as they are terrible terribly disruptive to the digestive system and nutritional intake. There's lots of discussion about how people can become addicted to PPIs and not resolve underlying causes.
Disappointing that the doctor didn't go deep enough into diet and lifestyle changes. Far too many of us are eating far too much processed food and grains which are a contributor to heartburn. I was raised on breakfast cereal and had chronic heartburn my entire life until I switched over to eating eggs and protein for breakfast which took care of my heartburn, which was the specific recommendation by a naturopath. I also cleaned up the rest of my diet and reduced my stress levels.
It’s strange how I see this post. I had a completely different breakfast this morning and my GIRD hasn’t been bad all day. Yes I have been having cereals for breakfast, for years. I will try changing my diet. I do have an appointment, though to do the test, where they view my esophagus and stomach. I do know I have an hernia in my esophagus, as that was seen, in other X-rays and mri I had in the past of other problem body parts.
I took a PPI med and ended up in ER for those types of meds putting on the borderline of renal failure. If I didn't have a CT that day that required blood drawn,it would have killed me. The technician couldn't give me the test because my Creatine went over 3.
Take apple cider vinegar pills. Worked wonders for me. You may have to play around with the dosage to find what works best for you. I started at 400mg as needed but sometimes need 1000mg. Make sure you get the kind with the mother. I’ve taken every prescription med under the sun. After a few years they stop working and I “graduate “ to something stronger. The last one I took was Dexilant. Since starting the ACV pills I have gotten off dexilant completely.
I’m always amazed at how different allopathic medicine approaches a health problem. It’s always “it just happens!” It’s a “disorder.” Never look into what causes it. Just accept it because it happens to many people. And here’s a drug to make you feel better. When it gets worse and you build tolerance to the drug, we’ll do surgery.
Really happy to find you! The question i have : Can i use whole goat milk and some cow heavy whipping cream? You answer will be great appreciated! Victor G. LeCar
Cutting my carbs down helped me quite a lot. I don't do LOW carb per se but rather less carbs. Maybe around 150-175 carbs a day. I do more complex carbs than simple though I will go for a simple carb in limited quantities. I have Roemheld Syndrome and I notice when the acid reflux is up so is my RS.
There should be warning signs around PPIs being used. What isn't being said is that when PPIs are used, it is assumed that the proton pumps are overfiring but as the cause is unknown this isn't really a treatment. The doctor does not know why the proton pumps would overfire and thus prescribing medicine that inhibits them is not a way of actually addressing what the issue is. It is a way to make the patient feel as though they are being treated. My advice is stay away from the synthetics and get a good look at lifestyle as well as biology. Then consult your specialists.
Thank you for your comment Maciej, I agree with you that the most important thing here is to look at the lifestyle modifications. It is much more preferable not to prescribe these medications. In cases of acid reflux, the main pathology is regurgitation of acid from the stomach back up into the esophagus. The gastric acid induces typically a burning pain when it comes up into the esophageal lining. There is not acid overproduction from the proton pumps in the stomach. The reason why the medication works is there is less acid in the stomach and so the pH of the gastric contents is much higher and so people do not feel any symptoms when the more alkaline gastric contents reflux back up into the esophagus.
@@MedicinewithDrMoran In cases where all known PPIs have failed or the patient has not responded well to them, and an endoscopy has shown that there is no hiatus hernia, yet symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, reflux and burning persist regularly what would be the next step? I had acid reflux to the point where I was developing a raw spot in my esophagus at the base of my throat. Doctor prescribed Nexium. Terrible. Read a WSJ article by a guy who claimed he cured his ulcers by avoiding dairy. I stopped all dairy. Acid reflux went away, as did the raw spot.
Raise the back of your bed post so you sleep at a decline. This prevents acid from coming up while you sleep. Adjust diet & don't eat before bed. This will resolve it for many especially if the reflux is only temporary from a tear in the throat muscle. It needs to heal first. Medications for this can cause you to have more issues. Treat naturally first.
Thanks for commenting Bill. Overeating and eating before bedtime are some of the commonest reasons for reflux. Alcohol, caffeine, smoking, obesity are some of the others.
Suggest taking 2-3 HCL capsules a couple minutes before eating. Increases acid in bottom part of stomach and food goes out the bottom of stomach easier. Moran is fantastic and maybe he said this.
i have been on PPI since 1999 with various brand names mostly Generic brands...Now on VENCID for the last 6 months on dosages as recommended 1 tab per day half hour before Lunch. Great video. I have laryngopharyngeal reflux which caused me to lose my voice. Welcome any additional insight as to why my condition is effecting my larynx (with no chest pain, just lump in my throat at times). Thank you for your help, trying some of these suggestions before moving to medicating.
Consider diet changes. I was raised on breakfast cereal and I've had chronic heartburn as long as I can remember, until I saw naturopath and he said stop eating so much cereal and grains. Eat eggs or other protein for breakfast, and don't worry about cholesterol. Heartburn stopped. Eliminate fast food / junk food, eat healthy whole foods, which for me meant doing more cooking at home.
@@flywesleybyrd Only cereal for you? I heard about ptobiotics being the answer to the problem. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat or drink. I have been taking a probiotic capsule each day for a month now. Prior to this I had a terrible phlegm cough for three months. The cough has gone now and I feel much better for it and my partner is happier. At night before bed I have a cup of hot milk with malt powder. We call it Horlicks or Ovaltine in the UK. That definitely helps reduce reflux in bed sleeping. Strange the doctor made no reference to ptobiotics.
Very informative. If I have soda, pizza/ red sauce, or chocolate too late in the evening I get it bad at night while sleeping and wake up coughing, sometimes I throw up the acid. Maybe I should visit my doctor lol.
It’s helpful not to eat within 3-4 hours before bedtime. I often tell my patients not to consume any significant liquid in the evening either. This markedly reduced his reflux symptoms during the night or waking up with heartburn in the morning.
2 different Drs, in different states, diagnosed my trouble as 1. Esophogus inflammation, 2. the other Dr said hiatal hernia. How do I find out exactly what's going on?
Great information Doctor! I keep Tagamet on hand in case I inadvertently eat something too spicy. I'm at the point now that my 20 year love affair with Hot & Spicy Buffalo Chicken Wings has come to an end! :-( My only question is does the Esophagus heal on its own if one is successful in eliminating the acid reflux?
Yes the inflammation in the esophagus, we call it esophagitis, will heal if the symptoms are well-controlled. It is uncommon for people to have ongoing inflammation with no symptoms.
@@MedicinewithDrMoran hi, doctor I’ve been experiencing excessive burping since last year...took all different of PPI’s, changed my diet, went for an endoscopy but my doctor didn’t find anything...until now I’m not sure of what’s the reason of my excessive burping...

I am 48 yrs old and I lost apx 120lbs following a low carb/keto diet and carnivore at times. My weight fluctuated a lot during that time due to my occasional slip ups. It took apx 2 years to lose the weight. Then due to many life reasons, I quickly ended up gaining all my weight back. As I was gaining it back I now get heartburn in my throat. I get it frequently throughout the day.. even if I haven't eaten all day and have been standing up or laying down, even with raising my head. The heartburn now gets worse when I start cutting out the carbs. Did I screw up my body? What should I do?
I experienced heart palpitations after taking that medication for a couple of months. I discovered that it was due to low magnesium, as PPIs cause lower absorption of magnesium. I started taking a magnesium supplement opposite from when I would normally take the PPI and within a few days, the heart palpitations stopped.
Dr Moran, consider temporary megadosing of B1 thiamine benfotiamine or tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide along with a good magnesium, such as nano mag, for possible dysautonomia before prescribing PPI's. Weak hydrochloric acid is what causes acid reflux. So PPI or antacid will just worsen the condition not help it. PPI will eventually cause malnutrition and SIBO long term. Nutritional deficiencies are the root causes for almost all chonic diseases of civilization
Please help me understand, I once suffered anxiety but I got better... Recently I have been having acid reflux/ Gerd symptoms for almost two months but recently I noticed that it hurts my breathing like I breath deep and it is quite unpleasant, chest pain and a lump feeling on my throat, dry cough.. I visited the GP today and I was advised not to over think hence am pregnant that pregnancy can worsen every symptoms... Please help, what should I do because it is affecting my daily life
My heartburn is always preceded by a small burp. If I could just release the gas out the other end, life might be wonderful. More flatulence and fewer would be helpful. I cut dairy products for years and still suffered. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I’ve suffered from heartburn for years and years. Taken every prescription med under the sun and after a few years I “graduate” to something stronger. 8 months ago someone told me about apple cider vinegar pills. I started them and they work great for me. I sometimes have to take a couple pills but 99.99% of the time my heartburn goes away. I now take it as a maintenance thing and then as needed if i eat something that kicks it off. Try it. Works great for me. Btw, I don’t take ppi med any longer.😊
Stop taking nexium. Stop drinking everything but water. Chug water like you never have. Don’t stuff yourself. Wash the food down good. It works dammit.

Thank you so much doc, your video is very informative. I am suffering from acid reflex on and off since 6 years, on Pantaprazole. Is there any harm in taking pantaprazole for long time? They advised gastroscopy, i am bit nervous about that, what is your opinion?
I have had 3 endoscopys. They are not so bad. They put you to sleep and boom, you're awake in like 10 minutes. It's over.
Thank you Sandra
Ok then i'll go for it
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure
I am finally free from bad breath and white tongue and acid reflux after using your herbal medicine I was completely free from this problem. I'm glad there are people like you who simply want to help other people struggling with the same problems. Your words gave me the courage I needed to hear today to know that it is okay. I can still be myself and now enjoy my life like I’m supposed to. I am blessed to have found you, Dr. Emovon, on RUclips…🦷🦷
Thank you Dr Moran!
My pleasure David!
Doctor I have acid reflux at night after only 5 days of antibiotics I got pantoprazole 40 mg 14 days can I go to 20 mg low one week extra
What about sinus pressure inbalance and post nasal drip ... how is this related to acid reflux and LPR? Does acid reflux cause nasal drip or does nasal drip cause acid reflux? TIA
Ps ... sorry also, I’ve heard a number of times that PPIs can reduce the amount of acid needed in the stomach ... is that true?
TV advertising promotes maintaining your unhealthy diet and popping more of these pills.

What doctors don't tell you is that Parsley reduce the acid. Why?
Piet neem je dat voor je eet?
@@gracedp2772 ja , een glas met peterselie even door de keuken machine en een half uur voor het ontbijt innemen.
Beef salt and water only for three weeks and work from there.
Omeprazole works great for me, every other day.
Not good for long term. Becareful.
@@nawlewhadee3918 dang, I’ve been on it for a long time.
Works but I have heard it causes bad and permanent side effects.
I experienced heart palpitations after taking that medication for a couple of months. I discovered that it was due to low magnesium, as PPIs cause lower absorption of magnesium. I started taking a magnesium supplement opposite from when I would normally take the PPI and within a few days, the heart palpitations stopped.
Thankyou
Dr Moran, consider temporary megadosing of B1 thiamine benfotiamine or tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide along with a good magnesium, such as nano mag, for possible dysautonomia before prescribing PPI's. Weak hydrochloric acid is what causes acid reflux. So PPI or antacid will just worsen the condition not help it. PPI will eventually cause malnutrition and SIBO long term. Nutritional deficiencies are the root causes for almost all chonic diseases of civilization

Strangely chocolate and orange juice minimise the symptoms.
Lucky you, you can eat chocolate and orange juice. I can't.
i think i had it too
My heartburn is always preceded by a small burp.
Btw, I don’t take ppi med any longer.😊
ginger helps gas and nausea.
I stopped eating high fat take away food and high fat ready meals. Guess what.. No more acid reflux!
I have a small protruding lump immediately above my navel. Would this be a hernia which may be causing my heartburn and acid reflux?
I hope you get this checked out.
what about using acv ..you didnt say anything about it
Diluted Apple Cider Vinegar does the trick for me.
will gerd worsen after vaccine ?
No. Anecdotally, I would say I've talked with about 2000 of my patients who have been vaccinated and this is not something I have seen.

Ppi’s effect my tinnitus.
Big side effect of PPI....constipation!
Big cause....pregnancy and childbirth equals hiatal hernia.
Stop taking nexium. Stop drinking everything but water. Chug water like you never have. Don’t stuff yourself. Wash the food down good. It works dammit.
