Depends on your needs as a photographer. The R5 will go larger in print and ability to crop when needed. The old 5ds R still produces a better image if you nail the exposure than the R5.
If you need an APSC then get an APSC.. Do not get an R5 just to crop in. At the same crop factor you'll lose over 15MP of resolution over the R7! In fact, if you crop an R5 to APSC you end up with less resolution than an M50 and even a 4000d! And with printing, technically yes you can print larger with an R5 but people generally have a misconception about print size/quality/MP. In most cases your printer will become the determining factor in quality before 32.5mp does.
I love how you caught another shooter's flash lighting up the subject in one of the frames 🤯 thank you for the shout-out to bird photographers, I don't think many people appreciate the skill involved
The Canon R7 will be the seller of the year trust me - so many ppl has bin waiting for that 90D 7D mk lll mirrorless camera and here it is with insane specs - im looking foward to get my hands to it - to get nutz in the skater park and motor cross races ..
You should read more opinions. R7 is definitely an ergonomic mess and hardly a successor to the 7D II. Ppl were mostly expecting R5 body ergonomics with just an APS-C sensor. Useless AF/FM button addition, mediocre EVF, not a 3 wheels setup? Thumbwheel replaced by the arrows? Wheel around the joystick placement?
You're going to waste your money on this camera? Lol. If you're going to go canon, at least buy one of their overheating full frames that has good stills.
Very impressive specs for the price. All of my videos are shot with not even the toy sl3 but the sl2. Well except for my last couple with a 90d I just bought. I was considering a C70 for A-cam and a R5c for B-cam but man two of these sound a lot better for the price. Especially for my needs. Looking forward to a more in-depth review.
Go Sony, this has been a marketing problem with mirrorless cameras and canon is the worst. Their cameras are the cheapest but the glass is insanely expensive. Now that they both have been out for a while what would you tell someone trying to choose between the R10 and the R8. Completely lens agnostic and treating this like a complete start to photography journey. What’s the better investment?
Finally something that I can upgrade to from my canon 80D. Wow man, what a camera. I am just curious to understand how it will perform under low light. I am guessing it should at least be able to have good images at ISO 3200. Lets wait though for the full review....

The sensor is not BIS so no low light (same sensor as the latest M apsc) is not going to be better than R6 or even R5. Thanks for the review Manny! Just preordered it this morning. Love my 5D iv but doing primarily bird photography I'm looking forward to the fps and the better autofocus
their aps-c cameras are always lacking glass, as usual you'll be expected to buy FF glass if you want anything other than a slow zoom. Fuji seems to be the only serious aps-c option imo (fyi I'm not a fuji or canon shooter).
@@Neopulse00 yeah, bless sigma XD my eos-m waited a long time for lenses that never came (well the sigma trio helped) so I jumped to mft, toooo many lenses to choose from now. I'm sure these will be great for FF RF peeps as a second body for sports/wildlife.
I have the R5 and R6... I WILL be getting the R7.. My hopes: While I won't be getting any RFS glass.. I'm hoping Sigma & Tamron will start making RF glass. I would buy a few lenses from them.. specifically the 2.8 APS-C glass they have on the wider end - standard zoom range.
I hope canon just will make good glass for APSC as well! The R7 was the cam I was waiting for. I can afford full frame but tbh Iam not willing/feeling uncomfortable to run around with gear worth 4000 EUR or more. Yes maybe it has a smaller sensor, but all these features and above 24 MP got me hooked. I expected Sony to make the move with a new 6X00 camera, but glad that Canon is creating some competition here.
I shoot sports with a couple of 1DX's and occasionally a 5D4. I am seriously considering grabbing the R7 and an EF to RF adapter to use with my existing lenses. I've seen some great reviews of the 400 F2.8 IS II EF on a R7 and even with adding an extender. What I am most hoping to get out of it is the extra reach for Soccer and Football as well as silent shooting when shooting PGA a few times a year. Obviously, the rolling shutter will be something to consider, but 15fps is more than enough for what I "need". I am contemplating the R6mk2, but part of my reason for getting yet another body is for reach. Maybe I'll grab the R7 from Amazon and take it for a spin and then return if it's not all I hope it to be. Got a couple of NFL games coming up over the next 2 weeks which should be a solid test. Thanks again for the great videos.
Manny, I noticed you were not using the Rear Screen of these cameras nor the EVF. Are they not up to the task? They are low spec. I guess this where the Canon cripple hammer struck?
I currently am still shooting with a Canon T2i and have two lenses for it. Am I understanding correctly I can still use those two lenses with either of these cameras?
Why Manny Ortiz said “kind of like the sony’s” 5:30 The Canon Eos R was the first camera that used the shutter to block the dust from entering the sensor. Sony copies that from canon not the other way around.
Hi Manny, you're one of the photographers opinions I trust the most, nice to see you actually using the camera and not just speculating. Also, as a bird in flight photographer I was happy to see the AF tracking working well. I went ahead and ordered an R7. Is it the perfect camera? Nope, you just have to know it's limitations and when and where to use it. For the price point I think its awesome. Thanks again for the real life review!! Take care.
I was just saying how great it was to see how well the AF tracking works. There’s a family of turkey vultures that fly around my neighborhood but it’s so hard to nail focus when you’re at 500 or 600mm and they’re constantly banking and going behind trees.
if you want resolution in the APS-C space, just wait a little more for Fuji's announcement on May 31st If the leaks are to be believed : 40+ Mp in the X-H2, stacked sensor in the X-H2S, no doubt those will come in the X-T5 and X-T40 down the line
No one cares about Fuji. All of their cameras are overpriced. The only thing they do well are instant cameras for kids, that's the only thing keeping them relevant in 2022
@@amounifnd I, like most photographers / videographers, have never needed such autofocus, especially for video, any portraits can be taken even with an old camera. If you buy a camera because of its autofocus, then you should reconsider your views on photography. More important are the recording characteristics, matrix resolution, colors and quality. Canon's quality suffers almost always, they intentionally make defective cameras year after year, which have a 1.6 crop, this is already a huge minus for Canon. Objectively Fujifilm is better, only the most consummate Canon fan will claim the opposite.
I ran out and preordered the R7 but cancelled after shopping for some lenses. Maybe if Canon offered some middle-of-the-road RF lenses for it. You can by a compromised compact or spend a ton on L glass that isn't quite up to Nikon Z S level. Nikon does the same thing if you compare a 20-S to the 28mm compact. At least their F4S zooms are unmatched, but they're missing the 70-200F4S. Sony and third party Sony glass seems to know exactly what we want. If only Nikon could iron out it's AF-C (fast enough but wanders/nervous) and button/setting customization limitations. I'm going to adapt Sony glass to my Nikons when a better adapter without exposed glue/board becomes available.
Good video and the wildlife content vwas very good, and now you why keeper rate is low when using DSLR ! Manny, I have concerns with low Res of the R7 EVF, what is your opinion of it as a user ! ?
Thinking of purchasing Canon R7 or Sony A7IV? My main concern is good autofocus, tracking and sharp image results. Which one you recommend as I see you mostly more happy with Sony.
Thats because there is a lot of "influencing" going on especially on RUclips. Sony is great but Canon currently is on a different level. Having that said, you still cant do wrong with either. The R system is nearly brand new and Canon currently has the best lenses including some very unique ones (like RF 28-70 at F2!, or the RF85 f1.2 DS etc). You won't find such lenses especially at f1.2 with Sony. Canons auto focus also become better than Sonys, offering both people, head, face, eye, animal, animal eye, vehicle focus etc. The Canon R3 even has eye focus, meaning you actually focus just by looking at subjects. No-one lese has such things. Their high quality lenses are not cheap of course, but they are delivering out more and more lenses including some cheaper RF options. Plus, you can also use any EF lens with the R cameras (the R7 should come with the adapter). The Adapter is aurally hollow and has no glas in it so there is no quality loss for adapting lenses, but you actually gain all advantaged like the new autofocus etc. Lens wise Canon has put themselves in a big advantage by using the switch to mirrorless R system to introduce a ne mounting system, which now allows them to create crazy lenses that would not have ben possible before. At the same time they made sure that you can use all the existing stuff so you have more than enough options for any price point from first to third party lenses
@@Seitenwerk Thank you for information. It helps a lot. These Canons are not full frame. Does it matter as I do not understand full frame vs APS-C. Plus, I already have a Canon 24-70mm 2.8 lense so would also make sense to buy Canon camera as Sony A7IV is $1000 more and plus need to buy new lense. Thoughts?
They invite half the camera youtubers to the same events, in Jared Polin's video you can literally see everyone hogging the deck at the skatepark lmfao
Can I save a burst (it doesn't have to be 30 fps) with the electronic shutter and access all the raw files of the burst without additional software and without effort? For example I want to use the raw files for multi frame noise reduction or for simulating a long exposure. So I need all of the raw files of a burst. Can I use the normal continuous shooting mode with the electronic shutter?
The R7 will need some cheap, fast primes from Sigma's contemporary range and of course Viltrox, they need to be fast to keep the ISO down for those who otherwise won't buy due to high ISO noise levels, a range of f/1.4 - f/1.8 16 to 85mm plus a 14mm f/2,8
I am mostly focused on Aviation Photography, what should be better for me? EOS R7 or R10. I am not that interested in video. Also, the EOS R10 doesn't have IBIS, so if I use the 100-400 telephoto zoom lens with IS, will it still provide me crisp shots?
Decently sharp photos, but no where near having both. In camera IS will have you up 30% sharp keepers. That was my experience coming from the 5DM4 to R5.
Sports photographers will use APS-C cameras from time to time. If I recall correctly APS-C can sometimes mean higher pixel density and get better detail (all depending on which camera it is of course). I think some use it because the APS-C brings the “crop factor” so that you “get closer” to the action without having to crop the photo to get closer.
Probably the exact same sensor as the Canon 90D in the R7. Its the same resolution and till now only used in the 90D. I dont think they make two different apsc 32mp sensors
Hi just a question, the r10, how is it balanced with heavy lenses? ' cause I have a 24-70 and is about 600 gr, so i think it's heavier then the camera .

I would buy a few lenses from them.. specifically the 2.8 APS-C glass they have on the wider end - standard zoom range.
Hahaha 3:53 is froknows! I love his stuff and yours Manny!
Lol FroKnows @03:08 There must of been a lot of invited photographers for that event.
I hope canon just will make good glass for APSC as well! The R7 was the cam I was waiting for. I can afford full frame but tbh Iam not willing/feeling uncomfortable to run around with gear worth 4000 EUR or more.
Yes maybe it has a smaller sensor, but all these features and above 24 MP got
me hooked.
Can you test the performance of old APS-C EF-lenses using an adapter?
Im sure it will work as flawlessly as it does on all the other RF mount cameras....
@@michaelbell75 If so there will be so much good and cheap glass out there for these cameras!

Manny, I noticed you were not using the Rear Screen of these cameras nor the EVF. Are they not up to the task? They are low spec. I guess this where the Canon cripple hammer struck?

Why Manny Ortiz said “kind of like the sony’s” 5:30
The Canon Eos R was the first camera that used the shutter to block the dust from entering the sensor. Sony copies that from canon not the other way around.

Is the R7 all plastic or does it have metal construction?
I am planning to buy my first mirror less camera. Is canon EOS R7 any good? Or is there any better option for that price point...
Oh wow. Announced so fast!
Question for the pro's.. For a hybrid portable camera, what would be a best decision between the R7, R8, A7C, & LUMIX S5?
I have an a7c. It’s a great camera and looks less conspicuous. I only have two issues. It only has one card slot and SS tops out at 1/4000 sec.
@@AdamRelayson I’m inclined towards the A7C, however, the R7 is a tempting option as well.

if you want resolution in the APS-C space, just wait a little more for Fuji's announcement on May 31st
If the leaks are to be believed : 40+ Mp in the X-H2, stacked sensor in the X-H2S, no doubt those will come in the X-T5 and X-T40 down the line
No one cares about Fuji. All of their cameras are overpriced. The only thing they do well are instant cameras for kids, that's the only thing keeping them relevant in 2022
But will the Fuji focus as good as this R7 ? Things amazing.
If its focusing is so great, then why is it focusing on the wrong area at 0:08?

yes canon has 32,5 megapixels before. on their m6 mark ii
Even before that, the 90D
@@RiposteThis m6 mark ii released at the same time with 90d anyway

2:53 the 90D has a 32,5 MP sensor.

Thoughts?

Do you and jared polin took the same pictures and video?
They invite half the camera youtubers to the same events, in Jared Polin's video you can literally see everyone hogging the deck at the skatepark lmfao
Can I save a burst (it doesn't have to be 30 fps) with the electronic shutter and access all the raw files of the burst without additional software and without effort? For example I want to use the raw files for multi frame noise reduction or for simulating a long exposure. So I need all of the raw files of a burst. Can I use the normal continuous shooting mode with the electronic shutter?
I don't see why you can't. Just copy them to your computer after the shoot.
I currently have the EOS RP and was thinking about getting the R7. Would it be a good upgrade or should I stick with the RP.
If you’re taking photos only - stay with FF.
portrait, studio photos - RP
fast, action photos, ALL videos - R7
Thank u so much for this nice review ☺
If you have invested on the efs lenses, is there a work around this camera and is it even worth it?
There is an adapter for the EF to R. You can use EF and 3rd party like Tamron on the R cameras.
@@Davitor1 Okay, that helps.
I'm definitely getting the cannon R7 especially for video, but the 4K 60 looks kind of soft! 🥴🥴😔
looks like the dynamic range was left out of the preproduction model.😂

Nice review Manny. I really think you're stepping up your game. You understand more of the markets for what is being done.
Honest question, why would someone prefer an APS-C camera over a Full Frame one? Why not go with the R over the R7 for example?
