Don't get it wet, or dusty, or sandy. Or want low light capabilities. Or plan on taking a lot of shots in one go. Do you remember why you didn't upgrade to the 90D? Well they are the same reasons to leave this well alone. The great autofocus doesn't outway the rest.
The r7 has great weather sealing and as for the buffer, idk I’m consistently getting almost double of what I got from my 7D which was about 22/24 shots. With the r7 I get 40/42 shots and that’s while shooting in RAW with a UHS-I card. I think it’s a great upgrade.
R6 user here and I think this will be a perfect 2nd or B cam to it. R6 covers 90% of my needs but there are times I need a little more resolution, more reach, and more time with 4k60. But I don’t want to spend the money on an R5. This maybe a great option!
Not sure if it is an upgrade in all regards for your use case. You will lose the juicy full frame bokeh and probably some low light capability (but this might be a now issue since the R7 sensor is a newer gen)...
Hey Dan and Sally, great first impressions here - can't wait for some detailed test, particularly vs R6! Your reviews are absolutely top notch. Well done.
Would love to see a comparison between the R6 and R7 ISO capabilities. I love the R6 for ISO. Want the R7 for birds and macros. Great video, btw. Very informative. 👌
Jared Polin has RAWs available on his channel. The R& at 4000 ISo has more grain than the Sahara. Just like the 90D did, with the same size sensor..... read into that what you want. But if you are looking for low light capabilities, forget it.
The best review as for today! Truly informative. Thank you. R7 seems to be really a great camera for the birds and macro photography I love. Looks like a camera I was waiting for :)
You guys do such a great job always. Having your wife there makes a great addition because her viewpoint adds to the conversation rather than review pairs who just agree with each other.
I just caved and ordered it, been shooting with the t6i as a hobbiest but, I enjoy shooting sports, food, and landscapes. I also got the kit lens 18mm-150mm lens.
For the dial+joystick - I like it. The wheel on my 90D controls aperture. Its a PITA to change when you are looking through the viewfinder. I do BBF, so a slight move of the thumb to the left will be a nice change
Great review (and great footage!)…I’m not sure a $2k (Canadian) body only should be classified as “entry level”, which I’ve heard in a few reviews. Not sure if its how these cameras get reviewed now, or how the R3-R6 pricing has skewed our perception, but I don’t know too many people running out to spend $2k on a casual camera anymore. The R7 is truly aimed at those of us who have been waiting for an APS-C “complete package” Canon camera for wildlife, sports, travel, or just all-around. Well done Canon…can’t wait to get my hands on one!
I think Canon have finally found a true winner here, I've been using Canon cameras for years, the R7 is the next step for me, I'm in the queue, and with the R7 my excitement level has leapt skyward. I'm already impatient...
Can you share low light shots in your next R7 full review ? Specifically night shots/low light shots in bars, live music venues, street scenes and heck, even an astrophotography shot would be helpful!
That was a good passionate review. I shoot the R6 right now, mostly wildlife, and I have been waiting for the R7 for quite a while. The 7Dii was one of my favorite crop sensor cameras. In wildlife photography you can never have too much reach, so a cropped 32MP image will serve my needs much better than the cropped 8MP I get from the R6. Also look forward to the improved AF tracking. The R6 does great with fast primes, such as the 500F4, but struggles with an RF600 or the new RF100-400. The RF100-500 does a bit better, but at F7.1 it’s not optimal. Birds in flight are one of the ultimate challenges. I look forward to putting the R7 through its paces.
I do a lot of bird photography with an R6 and the RF 100-500mm. The lens is a bit short for smaller birds so I am excited about the R7. I did pre-order one primarily for the additional reach and the ability to put more megapixels on the subject. My 100-500mm will be equivalent 160-800mm. My typical workflow includes the Topaz suite so I am not especially worried about noise. Yesterday while shooting birds here in central Texas my R6 overheated. I was shooting stills only so it still worked but no video available and the entire camera seemed to slow down. That slowdown may have been my imagination but it seemed real at the time. Temp was in the high 90s but I was in the shade almost the entire time. I would have been willing to pay more for a similar camera with a better EVF and buffer. As it is I am willing to give up a little on the EVF and buffer. This could be a decently small and light package with the RF 100-400mm.
This camera would be very appealing to someone who already has an R5 or R6 with a few RF lenses and is looking for an APSC backup camera. As an only camera setup though, the lack of dedicated APSC RF lenses makes it dead on arrival as nobody shopping for a camera in this price range is looking to shell out cash for lenses that cost more than the body itself.
well there are options, especially for video shooters, to adapt great lenses. sigma 18-35mm f1.8 + variable nd filter adapter and/or sigma 50-100 f1.8, tamron 18-400 and a few other lenses for full frame like 20mm f1.4 just to name a few. and the rf lenses are awesome aswell but as you pointed out the negative to them is their price. still in my opinion not dead on arrival at all. also apsc is often used to get "free" additional reach for sports and wildlife.
@@beniyov I scored a STEAL on a Tokina 14-20 F2 last summer... $340 new... It's JUST as sharp as my way way way way way overpriced 15-35 F2.8 RF Canon lens.
I pre-ordered mine the 1st day and I can't wait! I want to see that pre-capture feature in action that allows us to get images before we fully press the shutter.
I have two R6s and I'm getting the R7 as a back-up. Plus...I love the 'longer reach' and the extra pixels. When using the 70-200mm f2.8 lens it's almost a 140-400mm f2.8 if you crop and get the same pixel dimensions as the R6. Nice review BTW and I subscribed.
So I have time to have a coffee while the buffer clears, well that's a plus point :) It's not a brand new sensor - you've got it wrong. Canon admit that it is the sensor from the 90D but they say they've made some tweeks. Really clean up to 1600 ISO? - you mean just like the 90D. Could that be because it has the same sensor? Just asking The problem isn't lenses - all the RF and EF lenses fit and work. The real problem is that the R7 is a replacement for the 90D and we were all waiting for the replacement for the 7D mk2. 1. Weather Sealing - not as good as the 7D Mk2 2. Hits the buffer at 1 second, clears around the 12 second mark. 3. The sensor is not one of the new higher ISO sensors. That's their problem. They just delivered a camera that the wildlife community doesn't want. It's is Canon's version of Microsoft's Vista.
During our press conference, they elaborated that it was not the same sensor as the 90D. Now, whether they were exaggerating that claim or not remains a mystery for sure. Weather sealing is also like the 90D. I absolutely agree this is a 90D update which is why I compared it to the 90D way more than the 7D but it's also $300 cheaper than the 7D2 at launch not adjusting for inflation so they priced it like a 90D update. But as a 90D update, it's really impressive but if you want a new 7D update, first of all it would have been more expensive and the R7 will seem underwhelming for some things
@@learningcameras If you check the sensor, it is exactly the same size as the 90D. Canon have confirmed that they are original 90D sensors that they have "tweeked". Jared Polin has some RAWs available. Look at the 4000 ISO shot. More grain than the Sahara. Just like the 90D..... just saying. And yes, you are completely right, this is in no way an update to the 7D mk2, so we keep waiting or we go elsewhere.
@@doghouseriley4732 I'm used to shooting basketball in poor light on a 7DII (1/800 at ISO 6400 and f/2.8). It's somewhat noisy, but no one from the athletic department, the players, or their families have ever complained.
I find it interesting that this review, along with three others I have watched point this camera to being a great backup for the R5. And you were all in Orlando for Canon sponsored unveiling tour. Is this something Canon planted in your heads or is it possible, just possible, this camera can and will be the main and everyday shooter for a lot of users? As Dan points out, it has the insides (sensor excluded) of the R3. I might add the R5 and R6 both have the dreaded 30 minute video time limit whilst the R7 has unlimited video time as long as you have enough card space and battery power. The relocation of the wheel on the back is no big deal. I'm old enough to recall the introduction of the larger wheel on the back of the Canon cameras and it was odd then, but we all got used to it and that wheel became a fixture on every EOS body. Sometimes change is difficult, because we all get in a comfort zone.
Wow, I ordered this camera because of you guys. Ok, you pushed me over the line. Ok, I am camera nut and I probably would have ordered it anyway, but great initial review, you two!
Would love a comparison of R7 with R6 for a casual wildlife photography enthusiast (if that’s even a thing!). Also, would love to understand the total cost of ownership with recommended canon and 3rd party lenses for each of these bodies. Curious about what body + lens combos makes best sense for someone who wants to use this as a primary camera (like for birthdays, family trips, weekend getaways, kids sports, kids portraits, fall photography, etc.) along with wildlife/sports oriented trip like birding, safaris, skiing, racing, etc. So hard to find this kind of a comparison online and I suspect this is the market Canon is targeting with the R7 and R6 (albeit for a more serious enthusiast).
Do you think the R7 would be good for astrophotography? I just purchased this on pre-order , so I’m really looking forward to seeing how this performs in the full review .
before considering this as a second body to 7dmk2, Im quite interested to see if there's a list out of compatable EF lenses without drop in fps, as well as using the older LE-6 and LE-6N batteries lowers your fps.
@@nitablackwood6301 😂. There is always gonna be a temptation to move to newer, shinier cameras but I don’t think I would get the same enjoyment from it. Love the pics/videos I get, feels perfect in my hand, dials are awesome and fuji support older gear as well as current. Eventually when my X-T3 dies I’ll go to the X-T4 (maybe)
Thanks so much for the new vid. Is this an upgrade for outdoor hybrid sports shooters over the 5D MKIV? focus and reach seem great upgrades, not to mentions the video capabilities. Cheers! Thanks
Thanks! So it's the best you can get for the price that's for sure but it's still not quite the ultimate sports camera in a few ways. But the focus system and video abilities are definitely strong features but the buffer might be a bit limiting for some sports
I am very excited about the R7, maybe this will light a fire under other manufacturers. being a Sony shooter it is frustrating for the last five years we have been askingFor a high-end APSC camera and we're still getting the A6xxx little toys with a recycled sensor . I love my A1, but I would love to be able to have a good APSC body I could trust with a good battery life and good ergonomics
Nikon and Sony missed it. Nikon has not managed more than this entry-level Z50 model, not to mention Sony. It would have been easy for them to make a better APSC model in the A7 III body. But what neither Nikon nor Sony have is a range of lenses for people with less money. The 100-400 mm is very interesting for wildlife shooters like me, the price is really hot. I will switch from my Panasonic G9, they don't manage to have such a good autofocus either. The hit rate is just too low. Canon seems to have put together a very good package. The only thing I don't like about the R7 is that it doesn't look very high quality.
Guys, What I heard about this R7 (nor sure for the R10), is that Canon made the same lens attachment, so you can use both RF and RF-S lenses on them and this made also the RF-S lenses compatible with the FF R series cameras.
Great review. We're very interested in the low light performance. Hopefully you can test that out very well. Otherwise, we are very impressed with this camera as a viable option for our setup.
Hi Dan - when you do your full review please try the 16mm RF as it gives a medium wide full frame equivalent of 25mm - Im looking at that and the 35mm and keeping my fingers crossed that canon copy sony with the 11mm F1.8 in the future - Id have the three focal lengths I need then
Please test the R7 against the EOS M Mark 6 II which was considered by reviewers a better camera than the 90D I have it with the viewfinder attachment and I use it instead of my EOSR. I don't understand why reviewers are not comparing this camera to Canon's previous flagship model.
I know I wasn't the one asked the question at 7:00 but in my day-job working for my local newspaper, I occasionally have to get photos in court hearings. That's one spot that a silent shutter would be absolutely fantastic. It's not that we're not allowed to shoot (that's what we're there for), but it's still really obnoxious in a quiet room.
E shutter on the R7 should work fine in that situation. The light bulbs are probably good enough that you won't see much banding and there isn't really fast action or panning shots. A lot of wedding reception venues we shoot at though use decorative lights with horrible bulbs that flicker like crazy so those give us issues with E shutter.
Nice I will probably get an R7 to go along with my R5. I have an RP as a second camera now so I will sell it. Will it eventually have a battery grip? As I love my battery grip for my R5. Thanks Dan and Sally!
@@joaomansano145 Vello makes a fantastic battery grip for the RP for years now. I think he means a grip for the R7. Im sure Vello will have one soon after release.
@@michaelbell75 make sense reafding again haha but i think they might release one for the R7 it looks like more the R6 (same battery, almost same size)
Early speculation is that the camera lacks certain tell tale signs that would indicate a battery grip. The door doesn't look as though it was made to be able to be removed, and the mounting holes are not present. Its not been discussed much in these early videos, I think because in some cases they were using pre-production models. But, Gordons' video gives us a pretty good look at it, and there is no lever to pop it off (again though, I think it was a pre-production model). I'm not going to say it is not going to happen, but right now I'm pretty convinced its not, and if/when that news is confirmed its going to be the thing people blow up over this time. But whatevs. Would be dumb to omit that though.
Please confirm if the R7 has multiple custom modes for video like the R5 (and unlike the R6). Also, please test it with the EF-S 10-18mm F/4.5-5.6 since there's nothing that wide in RF yet except the full-frame 16mm F/2.8. Thanks.
4:11 Clealry seen there is absolutely no weather sealing around the SD card doors. So the moisture from even a light rain has direct access to memory card slots. Personally I would not take this camera to any rain.
Shame 😕 I dont know if it's a preproduction sample, but I hope the final product will have seals, this is a bad idea. I need a camera that can handle brutal rain. And wid etemp ranges and moisture. But I agree the seal thing makes it a no go for rain.
@@mtbboy1993 For a brutal rain you need to look elsewhere. R7 would handle it for may be a minute. Find a site with R6 disassembly and check the ridiculously weak weather sealing. R7 won't be better, rather worse. Night and day to e.g. 5D Mk IV.
The 90D had compatibility issues with many lenses due to the sensors pixel density. I wonder if the R7 would have the same issue when adapter older lenses? The sigma 18-35 1.8 ef would be a banger on this.
You can try the micro adjustment... but yeah, they're pretty unforgiving. Sometimes you can have a bad copy of a great lens... I say borrow or rent a lens and do some testing if you can
Please review this camera with the RF 16mm f 2.8. I have the RP presently (I'll probably be keeping it), and am looking for an update to my 70D which I use for anything that moves fast. I have the lens already and it works well on the RP, but I would like to see how the R7 handles it, compared to perhaps the R6 (I'm deciding between the R6 &R7). I'll have to sell the RP if I get the R6. Anyway thanks in advance, you guys are great!
It's not the mirrorless version of the 7d series, if it was the weather resistance wouldn't be that of a 90d and the button placement would be the same as the R5 and R6. I for one who have two 7d's that I've thrown about, used well beyond the shutter life and still going am really quite disappointed. I was hoping for a R5 even R3 light version like the 7d mkii was a 1DX light.
I really don't think it's a 7D Mark II update honestly. The 7DII successor should have had R5 (or at least R6) level hardware, a top screen, massive weather sealing, battery grips, and a pro level viewfinder. The 7DII was basically an APSC 5D but the R7 isn't an APSC R5. But thankfully Canon didn't cripple the software of the R7 so it's a really powerful camera
I think as others have mentioned, the hardware, build quality, size, weather sealing are not the pro level that the 7D II was. In terms of the software - the AF, FPS, eye and subject detection, it should be a huge upgrade. I think ultimately Canon has realized - as perhaps Nikon realized as well, that a pro level APS-C just can't attract enough buyers. Which would explain why no 7D III and no successor to the NIkon D500 as well. So we get a lower, enthusiast level rather than pro level, camera that should still satisfy a large number of bird and wildlife enthusiasts due to it's AF system that is basically from the $6000 R3, but for $1000 less than if it was a true pro level body.
While I like most of the features of the R7, with video and AF near the top of my list, and how its performance might improve further with the use of a .71X focal reducer (wider field of view, greater light gathering = lower noise, and shallower DOF using "full-frame" lenses). One of my main concern is the the low res EVF, with only 2.36M dots. I tried using the R6, and wasn't thrilled with its 3.69M dot ETF. The R5's 5.76M dot EVF looked more natural.
Hi guys. Can I use the custom c1 c2 c3 settings for video ?? Most likely to buy it as a third camera for family videos if they make a prime like 22mm or 24mm f1.8. Currently using R6 for most videos and every day photos and using my Sony A74 with the 200-600 for wildlife.
I think this will be very popular camera in Canon. They just nailed it with what it has to offer and the price tag. 10 bit 4 K 60 fps in H.265 it’s just what you want. Clog 3 and ibis. What else’s you need apart from HLG.
So Nikon has a few APSC cameras but they aren't amazing and the lens selection is limited. The Canon R7 is my favorite right now if you can deal with a more limited lens selection. So if you're mostly going to be using the kit lens and maybe adding more in the future, the Canon R7 is the way to go. Another cheaper option is the Fujifilm XT30 www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1662378-REG/fujifilm_16759732_x_t30_ii_mirrorless_digital.html/BI/19484/KBID/11716/DFF/d10-v21-t1-x1136461/SID/DFF
I am so glad i didn't sell off all my EF-s sigma, tokina, tamron and Canon lenses. HUGE INVENTORY OF LENSES & VARIABLE ND FILTER BUILT IN.... I am so excited to use the Rf-EF vND adapter ... WOW i am going to have fun with this!!!!!! R7 for me.
I initially dismissed this camera as replacement for my 7dmk2 because had expected a stacked sensor and better evf but It's grown on me I've pre ordered. I was wondering if you could try testing AF and image quality with the Metabones EF-RF Speed Booster® ULTRA 0.71x I would love it if it works thank you Dan really looking forward to your in dept review, I will be using this as a birding wildlife camera.
So far I have not seen a sub $4000 camera with a stacked cmos sensor so I wasn't expecting that. Sony would probably be the first to implement that. I'm curious about the adapter as well. Canon didn't have an answer on that question. The EVF isn't amazing but it's not bad enough to not buy it. I think the hardware of this camera is slightly below the 7D but the price is lower as well. I think the 7D2 originally cost 1799 and that was a while ago
@@learningcameras When I say stacked sensor In my mind was comparing this as a birding camera with the OM-1 has both stacked sensor and a very good evf it's certainly a notch above the R7 and good price but I went with R7 because I have Canon lenses. Thanks for the comment.
Current 7DII shooter, mostly sports...two concerns are battery life and size. I'm 6'4" and am a bit concerned about how small it is. Otherwise, very exciting body by the look of it.
My first Canon camera was the original 7D and when the 90D came out, I switched over to that one. What I dislike about the 90D is the buffer... so I'm pretty sad that the R7 doesn't have a better buffer. I mostly take photos of dogs, so I need to do a burst for a bit of time at once to capture the proper movement. But that Canon mirrorless eye tracking and focus is really something I want to jump on to... we'll see if the R7 is the one...
I believe I am getting this camera. I have been waiting for a 7Dmii replacement and this looks like the one. I don't care that much about the APS-C lenses because I will be using a FF lens for birds and wildlife. I would like to know more about the buffer limitation. Thanks for a great first review. Looking forward to your more detailed reviews.
Imagine if Canon put out really good compact wildlife lenses for APS-C R-mount ie. the small Sony 70-350mm. A 100-500 APS-C and I would have bought it right away.
@@ForrestWest For a couple of years ago I had the 100-400mm L mark II lens. Do you have any idea how the sharpness of the lens you mentioned stack up against it?
@@bjure8111 I'm guessing it's very close but just not quite as sharp as that L lens with the bigger glass. For me it's very sharp and when I bring my files in with DXO pureraw 2 and process them with camera raw and sometimes denoise AI and sharpen AI I get really beautiful sharp images. I shot with the D 500 for a while and the 300 mm F4 PF which is a fantastic lens and I think the RF100-400mm compares well with it except for the light gathering capability. The new technology in the autofocus of the R6 and the other cameras seems to bring out the best sharpness of the lenses.
I am a Nikon user (Z50) and been waiting for Nikon to replace their D500 (similar Z9 AF) with a mirrorless version. I guess I don't have to wait any longer, just need to change brands.
Hi, great "preview-review"! I'm new to system cameras. I want to do BIF and I'm planning to get t he RF 100-400mm. I'm going to do 99% photos and 1% videos. Will it be a big difference between the R7 and R10 for me? I don't care about the dual slot memory. Does the increase in MP and IBIS justify the 50% price increase of 500$?
Hey! So the extra MP doesn't mean much and if the lens your using has image stabilization, you will be fine without IBIS. But the R7 does have better weather sealing, it's a larger grip which might be better with a 100-400, and the viewfinder is larger and better so there are a few hardware improvements as well.
@@learningcameras for real sir .. I cant wait to get my hands on this because it fills the needs and jobs that i cover..thanks again for taking the time to answer my question cant wait to see the full review.. one more question does it shoot silen mode where u dont hear it when shooting sports ? example for golf
@@digibreakthe1st12 It does shoot a silent mode (electronic shutter) however, you will see rolling shutter when using this with fast moving subjects like golf. Of course pretty much every camera is like that...a few exceptions would be the Canon R3, Nikon Z9, and Sony A1

Thank you guys! Two questions. 1- I know an RF-A-RF Speed booster does not exist, but would it be possible? How about EF-RF speed booster? Will it work in these cameras? 2- For the R7, do you get sound in 120fps/1080p and 4K/60p?
This is probably better than the EOS R in almost every way. When I get the camera in I will test to see how much of a difference in quality there really is but the features on the R7 are vastly better as is video
The sunglasses part proves that this camera has a perfect autofocus system for my use cases.

hahahaha looked up for a comment like this when I saw that part of the video :D
Thats it. Im getting an R7.

Canon RF-S 11-55mm f/4-4.5 IS STM
Canon RF-S 55-250mm f/4.5-7.1 IS STM
Canon RF-S 16-55mm f/2.8 IS USM

I think Canon have finally found a true winner here, I've been using Canon cameras for years, the R7 is the next step for me, I'm in the queue, and with the R7 my excitement level has leapt skyward. I'm already impatient...
Can you share low light shots in your next R7 full review ? Specifically night shots/low light shots in bars, live music venues, street scenes and heck, even an astrophotography shot would be helpful!
A very interesting comparison would be R7 vs EOS R with RF glass on both like RF 14-35 F4 L
I have no interest in buying one but I’m going to watch the entire thing anyway! Love the work from both of you!!
Means a lot Ben!
Why do you not have any interest in buying one?
You forgot to mention 10 bit video in APS-C camera. It is the game changer for me.
Would like to see R7's performance in recording 4k videos of music videos and low light concerts.
Awesome! Appreciate that Harrison
It would be awesome if you guys compare the R7 vs the 90D and the R10 vs T8i.
So I have time to have a coffee while the buffer clears, well that's a plus point :)
It's not a brand new sensor - you've got it wrong. Canon admit that it is the sensor from the 90D but they say they've made some tweeks.
Really clean up to 1600 ISO? - you mean just like the 90D. Could that be because it has the same sensor? Just asking
The problem isn't lenses - all the RF and EF lenses fit and work.
The real problem is that the R7 is a replacement for the 90D and we were all waiting for the replacement for the 7D mk2.
1. Weather Sealing - not as good as the 7D Mk2
It would be good to have more on low light performance on real world moving subjects
All the bird in flight shots were 3200 iso and most of the soccer video was 1600 iso
No it wouldn't. The 90D sensor can't handle low light well
@@doghouseriley4732 I'm used to shooting basketball in poor light on a 7DII (1/800 at ISO 6400 and f/2.8).
Great reviews folks. The glass is definitely over half full with this camera offering in features ,price. Etc. 😀
Wow, I ordered this camera because of you guys. Ok, you pushed me over the line. Ok, I am camera nut and I probably would have ordered it anyway, but great initial review, you two!
Hahaha...thanks Anthony!
Yes Please, Can you test R7 vs EosR using the atomos ninja v... I wanted to know if it could be a good B-cam... Thanks
before considering this as a second body to 7dmk2, Im quite interested to see if there's a list out of compatable EF lenses without drop in fps, as well as using the older LE-6 and LE-6N batteries lowers your fps.
Impressive camera for sure but I’m not jumping from the Fuji X-T3, I love it
Lol I’m thinking about switching from my xt3 but I’m probably just having gas
@@learningcamerasthanks. appreciate your views as always
@@learningcameras Hi Dan. After some time with the R7, how does the image quality compare to the R5, esp after cropping? Thanks !
Can u pls stop calling it an entry level camera....😂 😂 💀 pls...the R7 is too sweet
Is this better then the EOS R in low light for photo? Witch one would you prefer for photo in low light?
Duddddde seriously next level man. Those alligator shots tho 😬
Appreciate that man!!! Was awesome getting to hang again
You are the kindest, Manny! Loved getting to see you! 🤗
I’m hoping this will be good for event work. I’m a hybrid shooter looking for a replacement for my GH5 if possible.
got to see what the X-H2 brings now, it certainly has the lens advantage though...
Been waiting on that for years lol
@@learningcameras isn't the fuji summit on the 30th this month? we should finally see it, hopefully...
Please make a video on comparing canon 90 & r7
Holy cow!! This camera has better specs than the RP and R! (Other than full frame..)
Good Video !!! the ShutterLag and Rolling Shutter would be very interesting to test.
Can you compare R7 against the GH6 or GH5s? The unlimited record time puts them head-to-head now.
Excellent video! I’ve been waiting for a second camera for my R5 to replace my old 7D MKII. This is it.
Nice I will probably get an R7 to go along with my R5. I have an RP as a second camera now so I will sell it. Will it eventually have a battery grip? As I love my battery grip for my R5. Thanks Dan and Sally!
I think it's easier to have an RP mk II than the RP getting a battery grip
I’d like to see how this camera works with a focal reducer ef to rf converter
Please confirm if the R7 has multiple custom modes for video like the R5 (and unlike the R6). Also, please test it with the EF-S 10-18mm F/4.5-5.6 since there's nothing that wide in RF yet except the full-frame 16mm F/2.8. Thanks.
On the full review can you talk about more of c-log 3 😁
You bet!
@@learningcameras thanks bro
That and the 50-100 are the first lenses I want with this camera lol
Damn what a combo that will be
You can try the micro adjustment... but yeah, they're pretty unforgiving. Sometimes you can have a bad copy of a great lens... I say borrow or rent a lens and do some testing if you can
The R7 is gonna be replacing my 80D as a main. Im still gonna keep the 80D because I love it, but yip..time to upgrade a bit
Would be nice to compare to its logical predecessor the
Canon 7D mark ii
But will the r7 outshoot the 7d mark ii? Seems like it will anyway even if we lose some of the good we have with the mark ii?
I have a Canon 600D and was going to upgrade with the 90D but now considering the R7 thanks for the review
Sold my R7 for the R8 on release day and I’m now switching back. I missed the R7 so much
What else’s you need apart from HLG.
liking the R7 but have no budget, still love to watch your review.
I use canon r6 for my RUclips videos. It is fantastic camera. I love it))))💙🌛I think that r10 or r7 will fantastic cameras too for some tasks
I'm currently using Nikon D5300 but now I want to upgrade a bit, what camera would u suggest?:)
I have an RP and an R. I think I will upgrade my RP with this one.
Hmm a reliable EF to R Speedbooster + R7... Might be epic
What RF lenses tiu recommend for blogging and podcasting
Just imagine the R7 with the video capability and slap a Canon Focus reducer?
DUDE! you read my mind!! I'm adding the Variable ND adapter with a pro mic on top for A crazy kit.
This makes getting the R6 or the R7 a difficult choice now for the price
Could you compare the low light shots to R5/R6. Is is similar or way apart?
I can't see anything yet! Must be busy uploading lol. So excited!!!!!
Excellent review mate. Quick question though - Is this camera compatible with Tamron's telephoto lenses? 600mm?
It should be with an EF adapter but I haven't tested the results
Great video!! Can you record video on both cards? Also can you have custom video settings on the 3 custom buttons?
Yes you can record video to both cards and customize video settings to the custom buttons!
@@learningcameras great! Looking forward to the full review!!
Who were models for this shoot? This video was amazing, I really want to jump into the RF mount using the Canon R7!
Imagine if Canon put out really good compact wildlife lenses for APS-C R-mount ie. the small Sony 70-350mm. A 100-500 APS-C and I would have bought it right away.
The RF 100-400mm is crazy lightweight, inexpensive and really sharp. I enjoy it on my R6 everyday. It will be even better on the R7.
@@ForrestWest thank you for your answer. I will consider the lens :)

Very Interessengruppen Video! Could you test the CLog3 in the Full Review? Thx
But the R7 does have better weather sealing, it's a larger grip which might be better with a 100-400, and the viewfinder is larger and better so there are a few hardware improvements as well.
everything is fine with this camera but when will canon release "affordable" and still high-quality f1.8/f2/f2.8 rf glasses?
I have a question does the 1080 120p the auto focus is not cripple like the 90d and canon m6 mark2 ? By the way great review

Thank you guys! Two questions. 1- I know an RF-A-RF Speed booster does not exist, but would it be possible? How about EF-RF speed booster? Will it work in these cameras?
2- For the R7, do you get sound in 120fps/1080p and 4K/60p?
No sound in 120fps. Same as R6, where it provides clip slowed 4x
