CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Johnny (Al Pacino) asks Frankie (Michelle Pfeiffer) to open her robe.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Terrence McNally's stage play Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune was a two-character piece, which starred Kathy Bates and F. Murray Abraham on Broadway. Garry Marshall's film version of the McNally play streamlines the title to Frankie and Johnny, expands the dramatis personae to include at least a dozen fascinating characters, and "glamorizes" the decidedly unglamorous Frankie and Johnny in the forms of Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino (their first co-starring stint since Scarface). Purists carped at the changes, but overall the film is likeable enough to transcend these carps. While serving an 18-month sentence on a forgery charge, Johnny (Al Pacino) discovers the joys of cooking and classical literature. Upon his release, he is hired by gruff but good-hearted New York diner owner Nick (played by Garry Marshall "regular" Hector Elizondo). Also working for Nick is a waitress named Frankie (Michelle Pfeiffer). When Johnny expresses interest in Frankie, she keeps him at arm's length, her mistrust of men stemming from an unmentioned but obviously traumatic experience in her past. Eventually, however, Frankie and Johnny do get together, their curious relationship setting the stage for a dramatic denouement wherein both lovers bare their souls. The bulk of the original McNally play is concentrated in the film's final 20 minutes; the rest of the picture is a kaleidoscope of comic and poignant vignettes and quick-sketch character studies. Of the newly minted characters, the standout is Nathan Lane in the traditional "gay best friend/severest critic" role: he plays the character so effectively that one forgets he's essentially a cliché. As for the stars, Al Pacino is ideally cast as Johnny, but Michelle Pfeiffer, superb though she is, seems a bit ill at ease as the emotionally tattered Frankie; she totally wins the audience's hearts, however, in the film's memorable bowling-alley sequence. Smoothing over the rough spots in Frankie and Johnny is the evocative musical score by Marvin Hamlisch.

I love this film. If feels real, authentic; how relationships are, with ups and downs , but underpinned by genuine love. Wonderful.
...
I agree.
This movie is so underrated. Al was so sweet in this movie their characters seemed very relatable.
aquarius88_ you said underrated then your saying its sweet film and relatable, what?
I get it
One of my favorite movies!!
I agree
nice movie really
Yep. I agree. I like him in this movie. She does a great job too conveying her fear of getting involved with him.
I like how he seems fixated on her eyes even after the robe opens.
He was fixated on her whole face. Not the eyes.
She is so beautiful it's ridiculous.
Urethra Franklin Her casting choice for this movie was criticized though. They thought that she was too pretty for a role like that. I disagree, because I don't see what's so unbelievable about a beautiful woman being a regular person who is afraid to get involved because of inner turmoils. Movie critics can be so shallow.
Johnny Boy yeah second antman movie proved that
@@KalvinEllis it's true, she told the casting director that awful things happen to beautiful people too, I read that somewhere. Great movie.
What I liked about his reaction was that even though he could look at her body the whole time, he actually looked into her eyes more, listening to her words. It's clear she means so much to him
30 years later, she’s still stunning!
Such a testament to what great actors they both are, because when I watch this film I don’t even think about Scarface.
I love how polite and rational he argues for that peek! 😄
@@chrisj8662 Ah right, I edited it! Thanks, I'm no native.
Thirty years later, she still looks amazing.😍😍
Michelle: "don't say it"
Al: "I wasn't gonna say it"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And finanscene : Al : “how long does it take to brush your teeth? --- oh , that long ey!”
Guy Ritchie movie starring Brad Pitt doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
I love the way in which Frankie can't or won't let herself look at Johnny while she holds her robe open (even though he's already seen her naked at least once), while he won't take his eyes off her. Even though he's beginning to convince her of his sincerity, she still finds it hard to believe that Johnny's for real (although with her history, who can blame her?)
Al has always been incredibly attractive with those big eyes and beautiful smile. And Michelle Pfiffer is dreamy, she is beautiful inside out.
Nice
I agree!!! Even Al at 82, still very handsome has that same big smile
So sensitive, sensual and sweet.
OK, but what did you think of Michelle?
Yes right
As soon as that robe came open,I would've passed out 😵
Whimp
Mike, come on you have to stay awake for AT LEAST the 15 seconds you asked for!!!
I absolutely love this movie..makes me cry each time I watch it
Me also
A woman should Always feel beautiful, her partner should just be there to make sure she doesn’t forget.
@k c As a women I agree with this! I think men should get the same treatment back.
Even after she gains like 50 pounds from the wedding cake ?
Especially after she gains 50 lbs of wedding cake,…Every inch of her body. Love her tender, love her like the first time lust took over💭‼️🪨
That knife cuts both ways, madam.
This film is a great love story film.
agree
He was really sexy back in the 90s
I know!!! He was 50 🥵🥵🥵
Mmhm still is such a man😎
Yeah Pacino in 90’s was the best.
Yes he definitely was lol
Nope 70s were his best.
Tbf, you can’t blame him, 99.99% of us would want a gander
Who the hell is the other 0.1% ???
@@gazr1248 🏳️🌈
Michelle Pfeiffer is so gorgeous ❤️😭
Al, you can look at me whenever you want. No problem. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Funny
This love story is very touching and both of them are just wonderful..
I think I'd only survive 5 seconds before dropping dead from ecstasy....
true dat
Creeps
I love Michelle she's perfect in this film. I remember critics said she wasn't right for the casting because and I quote, 'she's too beautiful to play a damaged woman'.
Fjc6ch
As if beautiful women can't be damaged
How can I get mad at such a hilarious compliment!?
@@drsavage4185 It's not a compliment though if it's in professional environment and casting doubts on your professional abilities...
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 actually I tried to mean what you said. This so called compliment is way worse than insult, that is why I said it was hilarious
1:44 Pacino's (Frankie's) mind goes:'Keep on talking baby, keep on talking....'.
Tony Montana and Elvira Hancock went into the witness protection program after Tony faked his death during the mansion shoot out. He started out as a dishwasher in Miami , rose to the top with the wealth and mansion, then things went bad and he had humbled himself again. At least he still has Elvira and isn't in the fast lane anymore. lol
Tony and Elvira in a parallel universe
Michelle Pfeiffer has always been attractive, but something about her in Frankie and Johnny makes me feel like she is in her absolute peak here. She is straight up gorgeous in this movie.
Take away her makeup and fancy hair and she is still stunningly beautiful. I just wish they would have put her in a lot of better movies. What would most men give for that 15 seconds!
Yes, I remember watching this when it was first released. Super film.
She is gorgeous in every film, at any time and age
@@jackwalker1822 She hast been in many good movies though... Nobody ''put'' her there, she chose those roles.
Michelle and Pacino roll playing. Pacino> please say it. Michelle > say hello to my little kitty kat. Lol
This is a great love story.
1:04 😂
hahaha :D
This is what I need Al Pacino in this character is sweet and sensitive to the female lead if compare to Scarface
Could not even see what he was seeing and I still gotta say "ooowaaaahh"
When you are lucky enough to lust after the woman you love.
Tony's and Elvira unfinished love finished here
If he had that Scarface swag, he'll probably get his way....
When she opens that robe the only think Pacino heard in his head was Christopher Walken’ The Continental saying “Wa wa wa wiiiiiiiii”
I don't know who's more beautiful, Michelle or Al...
If only michael corleone's haircut was like that unlike that Godfather 3.
Man Michelle Pfeiffer is so good in this movie.
Awesome movie ! Awesome actors!
I'll watching again these days !
I'm not sure you could put a scene like this in today's movies. Imagine the outrage...
What? There are loads of scenes like this in movies today. I don't understand at lot of this 'couldnt say that nowadays' sentiment
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Al Pacino hell yes
Classic movie
I bet Al Pacino only remembers something about a parakeet.
What a masterclass in acting
I did the stage play on which this movie was based. Very different in a lot of ways. And even though I love both these actors, and I enjoyed the movie...I agree that they are both too good looking for their roles. I believe it was F. Murray Abraham and Kathy Bates that starred in the original play. And the ending of the play is much more heart wrenching.
I was perfect for the role cause I'm not that good looking! 🤪
Lucky Johnny !
Alternate Universe: Tony (Scarface) & Elvira worked in the restaurant business and Tony didn’t leave washing dishes and making sandwiches....
does he play a taurus in this movie bcuz that is exactly how a tuarus acts
Is that a bad thing? lol
Al's a Taurus irl, does that help?
Both characters are Taurus
Haha
@@lets06976dance I thought Frankie is a Scorpion?
1:20 Nice parakeet 😮
Most beautiful scene of this movie 💕
Only a women would talk through a moment like they lol
My sweet Michelle ♥️🔥
She's Beautiful
1:24 love the way she adjust her hair and opens up for him. And stant casual like nothing happened.
2:06
If this were Altman, the camera would be further back.
Al pacino he s a gentle men he so charming with womens i love that
Parakeets sing, pelicans fly...Pelican FLY
I don't remember this scene in Scarface 🤣
Been so long, I forgot how good this movie is.
42 seconds even tho she said she timed it
Great memories from a great movie
I have to watch this movie every few months, years maybe it never ages. She makes Johnny out t'be nothing more than a horny bastard but then her face at 1:21 turns in all on its head, she loved it lol!
This part 0:27 - 0:32 is soo Tony Montana, lol..
Michelle is a good person.
Scarface deleted scene.
When I see al I see Michelle when I see Michelle I see al I wish they were a real couple I’ll root for them
Michelle Pfeiffer that white gold
They were together in Scarface and this movie.
What a glorious 15 seconds... 😳
I read somewhere that you should not meet your hero when they grow old. True, Al was great and charming in his younger days. I guess he was middle age in this movie.
He's still great and charming.
1:56 I was gonna say cat but fair enough 😂
I love this movie.
Hi
1:24 Never Let our Kids to watch this
2:18 i have seen that scene on top
this is a good movie Al Pacino movies are good they he played in those years from The Godfather sequels since 1972 to 1990 and Scarface one of my favorites cause this is there second time playing in a movie together Michelle Pfeiffer is amazing actress love her seen some of the movies from Grease to Batman Returns as Catwoman I remember that movie she was the perfect Catwoman the best ever out all of them she was born in 1958 so she had to be 33 years old and Al Pacino was born in 1940 so he was 51 years old so they are years apart but they make good couple to work together once again since they last played in Scarface seen many many and lots of times classic romantic movie and this came out in the year I was born 1991 like everybody else glad to say born in those years in film made us one day be actors and famous celebrity stars just like them its a dream 25 years ago this movie came out.
I like that little thing she did with her hair though lol
Tony & Elvira, after going into the Witness Protection Program.
Michelle Pfeiffers beauty was so dazzling, and stunning, that even Helen would of been jealous.
I really like this movie a lot 😍👌
Beautiful movie.
what a movie.
Eight years earlier they were married in "Scarface"
huh.. so she's like 32 when this movie is made.. she still looks so young.. what a gorgeous woman.. came here to say she even looks better when she's older.
"fo 15 seconds" 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭
Love al pacino
great scene !
Hi
@@mgdalhgralhgr5992 hey
@@jenniferlopez3554 can i take your number
Michelle is so pretty in this movie.
1:25 to 2:08 43 seconds nearly 3 times longer than he asked for.
Hahahaah..😂
I'm timing this my foot, lol! that was 15 seconds short of 1 MINUTE!!
She was too busy running her mouth, like women are wont to do....
Dos meus filmes preferidos, pena que não acho para comprar
For the record that was 43 seconds.
Yep...she said she was timing him but she got distracted.
I know its just a movie but if a girl I was supposedly in love with just told me how she had a bird and was happy it died, my feelings for her would change immediately. Don't like that about her at all.
Her level of resistance… 😂
Another Quilude she love me again!
I don't blame her for not believing, would you?
Hes acting more like a Leo. Very intense lol
This is Scarface 2
No, please put your clothes back on...please. ha ha
for multiple reasons i really love michelle pfeiffer
She secretly liked it
Probably..
