Unfortunately, this setting for triggering Google even when the screen is off is no longer available. Not sure why Google did this in their infinite wisdom, but this video will not help you there if this is what you're trying to fix.
Very helpful to know Google Homes features like turning on your lights is not possible with the phone locked. I was going crazy trying to figure that out. Mich appreciated.
@Casey Gutierrez you can't even Google something without unlocking it.. which is really annoying.. there has to be a way to bypass it but I'm not smart enough,, we basically have a pc, being able to bypass all these silly features should be easy pesy imk

But the problem is, is that it just stays on after talking to it. It kinda defeats the purpose when you have to get up/get out of bed to tap the screen elswhere so the phone will turn off.

I was hoping at least she would work when my phone is locked while in one of my designated safe locations where I don't need to give a password. Now I wonder if there's a way to lock my screen manually without it going black.

yea I think so because on my phone it only works when the screen is on and there isn't as many options and also the description on the Hey Google says only when the screen is on.
When I go to voice options it doesn't allow me to. It says essentially the same except that the screen has to be on. I think this is a xiaomi phone issue though
My phone doesn't have the more option shown at 1:22, it only have Discover, Search & Saved even after updating the App but thanks for the video we will see if it works after the update or I can go into settings through profile pic rather then the more option which isn't there for me 🧬☯️♾️🥰💗

I fail to see how switching lights on and off is "personal information". This is what I want as well and I'm sad to hear that it isn't possible. The users should be given the power to enable or disable which things need password.

Unfortunately, that only works until you reboot and then voice assistance always turns off.

You can't do it. Unless something has recently changed, you cannot turn your lights on or off on your phone if it's locked.

It still is acting kind of wonky and won't let me turn off my alarms or different things like that when the screen is off

I just check and I Did find the option to use it with the screen locked. It's under:
Google > Settings > Google assistant > Lock Screen

For now my workaround is using the feature to unlock the phone at home (checking the location), but this is only possible because I live alone :P
