I'm definitely going to stay tune when you show how to install the google calendar and the spotify also!!! I've already built one but it's just the basics nothing specialty like yours. I built this just to give my cousin for her graduation present.
Same hoping he'll upload a video about spotify and google calendar
Rommel Poblete
Brill moo
Do you know what parts I or components i need to do this? :o
Jst Pebbles dope
He has a Spotify setup link in the description
Thank you sooooo much for sharing, you got yourself a subscriber!!! Keep up the good work and thanks for putting in the time and effort to put this video together. I appreciate you!!!
This is so flipping cool. I'm going to do this. Even with my extreme lack of knowledge I was able to understand everything you said/explained. Great video (this one and the one before of the installation)! ✌️🤘🖖👌
And did u made one? Not alot of knowlegde too, but thinking about building one.
It’s going to take me a couple years to get the money but I’m going to do it for sure! I don’t understand coding but you make everything simple so thank you
Awesome stuff man! Love your projects, keep it up my dude!
This is awesome, you deserve more views, it's obvious you put a lot of time in these videos. Would love to see more
Wow I’m absolutely stunned by what you’ve done. Your an intelligent person. Keep up the amazing work bro.
Cant wait to see how you do this with an echo dot or integrate alexa! Neat project!
You could just use a live feed from a seperate url and connect it with and arduino same with the Alexa, they literally have an app for managing your Alexa commands and devices
Did you ever do a video for setup of the Alexa or Echo dot? Would be interested in this for sure as I can't seem to find other videos on it
And I used to laugh at my moms when she thought the VCR was too complicated to setup lmfao
Very interesting. I've been wanting a raspberry pi and this makes me want one more to make this beauty. And for other cool projects. Thank you! If I do this project I'll probably ask questions on one or more of your vids. Awesome work!
Man is this going to be recognized from my phone as google home?
Yes
Mate, this is excellent... awesome video set, keep up the great work!!
Really looking forward to the spotify video! Keep up the great work!
Really awesome job Grensom, very impressive. Just one question at what stage is the LED lights integrated into the system, i couldnt identify where in the video this occurs?
Thanks for these videos. They have been very useful.
Regarding the voice kit, can I use another usb microphone and speaker in its place? I have speakers already and getting a usb microphone would be cheaper than the voice kit. Is there anything I have to change in the set up process? Thanks.
I'm so wanting to build this. Great work on all of this.
Wow! Great job! I really mean it.. Great job! I can't give you enough thumbs up on your project.
Awesome build, do you have to add modules for the Google Voice kit in the config.js or for the Alexa in the .js file if so could you include that or add a file to summarize the process? Thanks .. Great Job!
You really should specialize in this area and when the technology comes you might be able to make a smart device inside a pair of glasses like EDITH
yeah man he is pretty talented you can take over mr beck's post anytime :))
s o i m n or BARF
Sweet been waiting for this thanks!
How did you install alexa voice? I'm almost done.
Up
Bro alexa is a prodoct by amazon. U can purchase it online
I've figured it out. You have to install Alexa voice packages to the to the config file. Also you would need a Alexa developer API key for it to work. He doesn't take you through that part. Especially his software upload video.
Sanmeet you don't buy the product. You just upload the Alexa software to the raspberry pi.
Ok
If anyone's having trouble with the installation command, here's a fixed version:
bash -c "$(curl -sL raw.githubusercontent.com/MichMich/MagicMirror/master/installers/raspberry.sh)"
hero
Thanks
It says error 404 command not found
Its the same thing as grensom says....
command not found
I see ye vs. the people
You wavy 🌊
Thanks for doing this - I was having trouble with installing google asistant on top of magic mirror. Using your method I'll put Google assitant on first then MM.
I've been having the same issue, but this is the old installation that no longer works either. Plus It keeps booting without a taskbar .
Awesome video but how'd you do the microphone check at the beginning?
Hi, Thanks for the videos. On the other video, you used alexa, in here, you used Google Assistant. Just wondering how did you get alexa working on the smart mirror on the other video? thanks
hey again really nice vid! Very cool! How did you do the flaring of the lights on the side? I missed that. That is pretty slick!
qwarlock Z Wgen downloading the Software for the MagicMirror, pin 25 is the indication light and the negative part of the LED goes to GND on the Radpberry Pi. I used the MOSFET as seen in the schematic in this video to allow the low voltage from pin25 to control the lights dimming on and off.
Thought this comment was on my other video, sorry. When downloading this Google AIY, it automatically is programmed to use pin25 of the Pi an indication output - so no extra programming is required. Watch the build video I linked in the description and follow the schematic and you'll be all set.
Nice... that is quite slick!
Thanks! Magic Mirror and 3D LED Cube are both sweet projects that I am all excited about!
@@Grensom nice work, really apreciate the vids! just wanted to point out something thats had me confused. pin25 is ground, so i'm assuming its BCM 25 (Pin 22). Everywhere i read its pin25, but that doesnt make sense. the circuit diagram also looks like its going to ground :s googles aiy page says bcm25 though so i'll try that. Thanks again though, looking forward to more tutorials on this if you plan to make them. Alexa setup would be great :)
Thank you so much. Concise and clear
Thank you sir! I enjoy your edits.
Great tutorial man! Thanks for posting.
Really cool Def gonna try this when I have more time
Hi Grensom
, thank you for the time and effort you have put into this! I am wondering if you would be able to just make a microSD image of the complete project when it's complete (minus your personal info) that could be burned to a new microSD, with details on what we would have to configure still and how to do it? I don't have the coding knowledge to do this completely. But, I would love to build one of these with all of the features you show in your videos.
Great videos mate! Only thing is you show your Smart mirror integrated with Alexa, on a previous video... Then you link from that video to this one for software setup...? Could you correct this please.
Whats the difference between using a default Raspbian OS such as Stretch and using the one from Google OS. In this video he uses the Google OS. What are the advantages? How is it implemented into the Magic Mirror and what can we do with MagicMirror?
Thanks for your great videos and the very detailed instructions to create a Smart Mirror. This will definitely be my next project. Thank you very much and many greetings from Germany to you.
Need some help so when I open the Check audio file its telling me I do not have any sound cards installed. But when i open a youtube video I do have sound playing. How can I fix this? Thanks
You need usb microphone for that
Is it possible to get the weather data from another service? For example where I live, the Norwegian service yr.no gives very accurate forecasts (even though I don't live in Norway) and their data is free to use.
And is it possible to get a more detailed forecast for today rather than having the whole week? 🙃
Yes, there are actually two modules for this; one official from Yr.no and one unofficial. I've installed both and done a little testing, seems like they complement each other as the official one shows the current weather, whereas the unofficial one shows a forecast. The modules can be found here: github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror/wiki/3rd-Party-Modules#weather
💚
Hey this mirror is so cool. It’s brilliant. But this video doesn’t explain how you get the indicator lights on the side working, or maybe I missed it, could someone let me know please
I have been wondering this for a while as well
this is amazing!! Got it working awesome with spotify. Currently waiting for the voice kit to arrive to implement it! is there a way to add other things to the mirror layout, such as google photos, or other utlity things?
Nice Build! What speaker are you using for your setup? Bluetooth? if so, how you did the setup?
UNBELIEVAbLE!!! i need to try this
Awesome videos man!
This is linked to the video "ALEXA Smart Mirror (New Build)". Where is the ALEXA software setup???
There is no software. Observe carefully. There is a smart power plug that allows him to turn it on and off. Also he likely has like an echo dot or something somewhere so that he can add stuff to his calendar which is synced with apple calendar and google calendar and alexa. The smart plug can be added from the phone.
The reason is that he didn't get the Google Voice Kit before, so he used ALEXA. In the supplies list, he recommends you use the Google Voice kit instead, hence using the google assistant. He just didn't want you to buy a webcam to cannibalize it for its mic.
Here you show how to install voice AI for Google Assistant, but in your final build you're using Alexa, do you show the setup for Alexa in any video? Thanks
When installing screens for these mirrors do you need to adjust any contrast and brightness settings on them prior or do these apps automatically correct that upon install? Great videos btw :) very clear and good depth
oXketarouXo No you will need to adjust the backlight and contrast settings manually on the monitor. Keep in mind all configurations are going to be different based on the lighting in the room. I did 100% Contrast and 50% Backlight I beleive
Alrighty, tyvm
sir, i am very happy to see your project of smart mirror, since i am new to this e-world, I have a doubt that the picture is equel to the size of the monitor or to the extent of the size of the mirror? thanks in advance for your reply
I'm gonna try to make my own very soon, working on some other projects currently, but I have a question, can I add a different module for the weather, say weatherbug, and also can I add module other than Spotify for the music, maybe RUclips red or poweramp, and last but not least can I add these without catching a charge for copyright infringement. And can u make any videos showing me how. Or can I just run apps from Google play on rasberri. Obviously I want it to b legal about the whole thing. Thanx in advance for ur response. Great video btw.
hey, thank you so much, thanks to your video, i build my own magic mirror.
I wonder if I can config the compliment module with a "random" option to mix my compliments and not to always have the same order ...?
Thanks again !
I use that weather api for my website it works well!
Looking forward to the Alexa version instructions, from the look of the API instructions not a lot looks different. Just wondering what differences are in the configs. Great job!
Alexa: "ruclips.net/video/aa3VVZA0e5Y/видео.html"
ok, how do I learn this? how do I actually learn what it is that I'm doing. I can follow but I wanna understand not just do. where should I start? Any suggestions please? Jsut get the raspberry pi first?
Well, you can start by buying a raspberry pi and doing simpler proyects ,there you go learning how to use it, and learn electronics to.
Thanks for the excellent tutorial followed all instructions and everything went well but since installing the unclutter command am no longer able to access the terminal with windows key any help would be appreciated still need to edit some things and cannot gain access
Hello, I wanted to know how you went from Google assistance to Alexa, and how do you ask for music on Spotify ... Regards
He addressed this: "ruclips.net/video/aa3VVZA0e5Y/видео.html"
Love that you deleted the confidence bracket. That’s the one i’d need the most. 😂 « Wow lookin’ hot! » Wow a mirror says i’m hot... flattering 😅
Thank You so much @Grensom !
I set up my MagicMirror thanks to you.
I also added a spotify module (MMM-nowPlayingSpotify), but it is too big for me, and I am not able to place it in the center, on the right side.... thanks for your help !
I also haven't been able to figure out resizing. For the right center placement, it doesn't seem like there is an option to but it right or left in the center, just middle center. You could two or so modules top_right and the spotify module as the last top right (because they will stack) and that might leave it around the center right.
If appears that the placement options are
top_bar, top_left, top_center, top_right, upper_third, middle_center, lower_third, bottom_left, bottom_center, bottom_right, bottom_bar, fullscreen_above, and fullscreen_below.
That's according to github. I'm not sure if middle_right would work, because it's not in that list, but I guess it's worth a shot.
Trevor Laporte yeah thanks for answering, that's what I finally did : stacking some modules.
Other questions : do you know any needle clock module ?
Jpasquiet the default clock module can be changed to an analog clock. I'm at work so I'm not sure the method off the top of my head.
Trevor Laporte ok thanks I'll check it right now !👍
Make sure if you decide to use VNC that you enable SSH also. VNC can be a security issue and if you use VNC but tunnel through SSH you can mitigate that some what by having the VNC only listen on localhost. Its fairly easy to do and you can connect from windows using Putty. Here is a quick how to that may be slight different for the PI community.time4vps.eu/discussion/120/how-to-connect-to-vnc-server-ussing-ssh-tunnel
Hi there your video helped me alot getting calendar set up. For some reason it's not updating very often I have it set for 1500 milliseconds but seems to just freeze after few days any ideas why this is happening
Awesome video, thanks
The github install command doesn't work anymore.
this worked for me when i had that issue
bash -c "$(curl -sL raw.githubusercontent.com/MichMich/MagicMirror/master/installers/raspberry.sh)"
docs.magicmirror.builders/getting-started/installation.html#manual-installation
can i say give me pctures from cats and alexa show me picks from cats on the magic mirror ???
Trying to install magic mirror and it’s giving me:
bash: line 112: npm: command not found
UNABLE TO INSTALL DEPENDENCIES error
Could you help me?
awesome job thanks buddy
Those blue LED's on mirror will turn on if i say ok google hotword, right? Or is there any program for those LED's?
Love your video i´ll built one myself for sure. But how did you install alexa and how do you use the leds for it?
He used Alexa in this video. "ruclips.net/video/aa3VVZA0e5Y/видео.html" The LEDS are accounting for the circuit that he made from the bread box connecting to the SONOFF device I believe.
This is a really great tutorial, thank you for walking through everything so clearly.
I keep running into an error saying that MagicMirror is unable to install dependencies. I've tried updating my npm and searching for resolutions to the issue, but most if it is too jargon-y and I can't find an actual solution. Are you familiar with this error and can you help?
I had the same problem, removed MagicMirror and updated Nodejs from the repository.
github.com/nodesource/distributions
Install --> ( curl -sL deb.nodesource.com/setup_11.x | sudo -E bash -
sudo apt-get install -y nodejs )
then installed MagicMirror again and after about 10 minutes of installing,it was up and running.
Nice project. Really cool.
Would it be possible to just use a piece of clear acrylic with sone one way mirror film overlay? It's considerably cheaper than buying a large piece of one way acrylic in the UK.
Hi man beatiful video, i have a question. Can you explain me how to start the magic mirror on boot because mine doesn't work. I wrote a bash script to start it together with some modification that i made and the google assistant. i tried it with rc.local chrontabs and everything but it doesn't work any suggestion?
Hi great video thank you just a question. I'm having an issue I open my pi folder and I dont have a aiy folder to find the assistant library demo file. Is that a separate file to dl .
Thank you
In advance
omg i'm loving you
Have ya done it?
From where you get this AIY-projects-python folder. Tell me that !!!!
From Googles customRaspbian
Love the videos!! I’ve been working on mine for a while now and I’m pretty much done I just had a few questions. The weather location Id link doesn’t work anymore... are there any work arounds? Also the google assistant only works on the demo mode and not on boot up.?.?.?
Did you find a solution on how to get the google assistant work when boot up?
Hey, does the Google SD kit contain the Raspbian OS? Also, did you previously install Magic Mirror on the Raspbian OS before setting up the Google credentials?
Thanks Bro, That's a great job..
How does this smart mirror connect to the Amazon Alexa app?
Jordan O Donnell idk
With the help of "Sonoff "i guess
Magic mirror is also in Italian language? Thx and great job Grensom!!
DAMN MAN THATS PRETTY AWESOME
great idea! I want to do the same, but also changing wallpapers every 15 sec, so I can use it as a picture frame. Does somebody have an idea how to do it? Maybe to attach my google drive with it with a particular folder?
Thanks man, you helped me build my awesome mirror! I have a question for you though. When my mirror reboots I have to go in and execute the library demo for Google Assistant every time. is there away to have it activate on boot?
Did you solve it? If so, how did you do it?
Awesome video
Does the function shown in this video for rotation of the display still work on the current MagicMirror2 build or does it need to be done some other way? If different, could you please explain how to do it?
amazing. I'm waiting for alexa video :)
In the first step while downloading the aiyproject image it says it is not for free and can be used for only 60 mins per month for free, so are you paying your billing or you are not aware of it?
Excellent work! Do you know how to change the language from the google Assistant to german?
When I go to download the sd image, it links to a github page. Which version did you use so I can get the correct one? Thank you!
The latest one that supports your Pi
I have a really stupid question but I will make it ;P What I have to do to work the Alexa on the mirror? Do I have to buy anything or is she a free software-custom A.I?
Just a quick question.. Which way can I connect the microphone, can I just use the AUX plug or there is a special hardware? Thanks.
What’s the smart mirror software called (The software that shows the date, time, weather, etc)? I’m designing and making a ‘smart gaming chair’ which has a display which shows what your mirror does but with more features. I’d like to know more programming my own software for it.
Think you could make an update tutorial on the google voice kit part? I can't get the pi to recognize the voice hat and the latest version of the software won't boot.
Doing it!!! Thanks.
Hi. When I install AIY image i have no audio devices found. Do I need Voice HAT accessory board for this project, or just raspberry pi?
I'm also struggling with this, so a tip would be nice :)
Hi Greg, just a quick question, is it ok to use the latest rasbian stretchy download? I believe this is the latest version? Thanks
I want to set one of these up but I have no coding experience. Would it be possible to cast you phone to the pi so you could watch RUclips videos through the mirror as well. Thanks
Hi hope you fine and fit. sir please tell me that what we use instead of google voice kit for example blutooth speaker.
Thanks for the video, I while installing the mirror on raspians and I got a bunch of security wartning, is this normal or did I miss something.
1:43 - Skipped over a whole section on creating projects and enabling APIs and Services. "click down here". No one who does this the first time will have "down here" showing without setting up first.
Thank you for noticing too, I was so angry. The tutorial is not that clear you know .
Still struggling to find the website link since am using my phone to follow the tutorials
how did you connect microphone and speaker in audio device setting because in this project we are going to use external microphone and speaker ?
hi cool soo cool man
can it be add window to display like a photo ?
