    I really love Larry Elmore's art. Clyde Caldwell and Jeff Easley's as well, but Larry Elmore's has ALWAYS stayed with me.

    Hi Wally,
    Great video, thank you. I'm a veteran BECMI player, my group played for over 30 years before finally breaking up. We developed several house rules to give the characters a chance of getting to at least second or third level. We gave the characters maximum HP for their class for the first three levels cos if you are playing a fighter and you only roll 1 or 2 for his HP he's going to die the first time a giant rat bites him. We also allowed Magic Users to memorise but not cast extra spells according to their prime requisite bonus. Hence a 1st level MU with a 16 intelligence could memorise three first level spells. They could still only cast one, but it gave them a bit of utility, sleep was always the go to first spell but if the party didn't encounter a large group of foes then having knock or light in the proverbial back pocket was always useful.
    Keep making the saving throws!

      Oh nice! Glad you enjoyed the video. And yep, we did the same thing with regards to Hit Points. Level 1 was always maximum. I never considered that for magic users though... not that it mattered, unless the players started with Fireball, most of them never wanted to play a magic-user anyway, lol.
      Glad you liked the series. I have more BECMI videos (and live streams) on the way. Stay tuned!

      @@WallyDM I loved playing magic users. It was the challenge to find different ways of using the limited selection of spells, that and finding other ways to help out in combat. I had a MU with a 14 in dexterity who used to juggle with daggers, he wore a bandolier of them across his chest and would stand behind the front rank and throw them at the bad guys, of course he always kept one back to slit the throats of any nasties that fell victim to a sleep spell. 😁

    This was quite the trip back to the old days of DnD! I wish they had kept magic users that easy to kill LOL, also, the Rogue had a lot going for him in terms of rolling dice lol
    What did you used to play back in those days Wally? :)
    Thanks for the video, I would love to see an example of how combat would play out in BECMI!
    PS: That book and those dice have seen their fair share of adventures....

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад +1

      I was always the DM back in these days, although I did have a "DM-PC". Most of the time it was just my brother and I, so his character could use all the help we could get. They both ended up being 36th level. We did combat in our stream last night, but I'm planning on a video too. And yeah, my books and dice are obliterated, lol. Thousands of games on those. Cheers, my friend!

    Turning Undead: my personal method of DMing this is that on a successful roll I first require the player to role play this action. What are they doing in-game that would cause this monster to be turned? I want to see it. Next I either kill the monster off (skeleton, for example) or it is effectively "turned". For example: if it's a vampire the cleric has performed a miracle and the vampire's curse is lifted. They become human again but soon after die, having been previously undead.

    Wally what are the dice roll rules for becmi for orginal box set besides 3d6 for each stat?reroll 1's?or switch one stat or none of the sort?no fudges.

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад +1

      Correct. You roll 3d6 straight down the line, in order of STR, INT, WIS, DEX, CON, CHA. No rerolls unless you have no scores above 9 or two or more at 6 or below.
      A bit more complicated, but after rolling, you can adjust your Prime Requisite (ie: Fighter-Strength), by 1 point if you lower a different score by -2. CHA, CON, and DEX cannot be lowered and no score can be lowered below 9.
      Hope this helps. Would you like to record and publish a character creation tutorial video?
