That was a wonderful stroll down memory lane. I loved when you spoke rolling the dice, and what were used, the same kind we would fill in the numbers with a crayon, when we were kids that came in the boxed sets.
Haha, yep. Those dice are 40 years old! I still can't believe how long I have had them. So many memories on those numbers... and I can't even tell you how many crayons were needed to keep recoloring, lol. Thanks Mike! Cheers!
Glad you liked it. And, yes. Absolutely. I will add both of those to my list. I'm glad to see folks interested in these videos. Up next will be an introduction to the character sheet, how to create a character and then BECMI combat. Stay tuned!
I am confused and hope you can help. @2:39 in the video, the text for "Detection" is on the screen. It states, "You have 1 chance in 2 to find them." Now to me, 1 in 2 = 50% which would be 1, 2, or 3 on the d6 (unless you are supposed to roll high - 4, 5, or 6). Anyone else confused by that?
It is a typo in the original red box. This was fixed later in the rules cyclopedia. The DM rolls a d6. On a result of 1 or 2, you find something ( if there is something to find ). Hope this helps!
They are not. For sure. I did however recently pick up a REPRINT of the Rules Cyclopedia from DTRPG... someday I hope to have time to look at the differences between it and the original.
@@WallyDM yeah they're worse. The only ones that are in decent condition is the Immortal booke, we never really played that set. One thing I know the Cyclopidia missed was some mechanics of the Clerics turning.
@@ryderma1 lol, my Immortal books are the same... the most decent out of the 5. I think we ended our final BECMI campaign in the Black Books with one of our characters achieving Immortality, but never went into the Gold books.
All this demihuman art by Larry Elmore is SO iconic
Absolutely! It always takes me back to my youth. For sure.
First!
Never have done this before, but had to this time.
Seriously though, I played 1st ED back when I was knee high to a Dwarf, I'm loving this.
lol, Gold medal for first! Thank you, my friend, I appreciate the support. :-)

Now that's a well loved book ❤
Haha, absolutely. My entire youth is represented in those tears and creases, lol.
@@WallyDM Much like my Rolemaster rpg collection 😊
Holy smokes this brings back memories, I remember using that book when I was a teenager lol.
The nostalgia trip is real, for sure. Cheers!
The Elf is my favorite character class 🙂
Mine too!
Halfling was my first character. This is the best version D&D ever released.
It is super-good, for sure. Thank you for watching and cheers to your halfling character!
w00t, more Learn to Play
want m0re!!
lovely breakdown as always, love the old dice too
Thank you, my friend! I'm trying to be as cut-n-dry as possible to hopefully make the videos a good resource for many years to come. :-)
Thanks Wally.
Thanks, Fred!
Great Video!
Thanks! I'm hoping to develop a BECMI library that is just a dry, plain-and-simple guide on how to play.
Cool video
I never played this edition
It's a good one... easy and quick.
Wonderful ty! Would you do a video on BECMI combat or dungeon creation?

@@WallyDM Just checking that I am not crazy.
Sometimes I wish they wouldn't have named the Known World, took all the Mystara out of it 😂
lol! Well done, well done.
I had the Blue box.
Blue box was probably my most used. So many good memories!
Your Red Book looks almost as bad as mine 🥂
My cover went missing sometime in the late 90's. I've tried to find a replacement a few times, but holy cow they are not cheap.
Wait, what? Yours are worse? lol.
