First of all, thanks to all of you guys who suggested solutions and the such, we really appreciate it! Now then, here, we'll just explain a little more of what this BIOS update actually changes. In essence as mentioned in the video, Dell has tweaked the performance and fan profiles of the G15 Ryzen Edition. Previously, on any of the performance profiles or cooling modes, the CPU was able to basically draw 45W under a constant extended load and can grab bursts of power of up to 55W+ for short periods of time. Couple that fact with the really *not-aggressive* fan curve, this basically lead to the sustained temperature of 100C under load. However, it is also to be noted that Dell also sets the maximum temperature to be 100C and that is also the only limit for the system. Thus what happens is that the system allows itself to push however much power is possible as long as it can maintain temperature of 100C and below. With this new BIOS update, that all changes for every profile except G-Mode in Rapid Cool mode. Now, the CPU will only really draw 35W under a constant extended load and has a better fan curve, with the fans spinning up once the CPU hits the 80+C mark. The CPU also tends to maintain clock speeds around the base clock instead of pushing up to 4GHz constantly like before. With these changes, temperatures are now really well controlled even with relatively low fan speeds and especially for gaming, it wouldn't affect your experience for the most part, or at all... (unless you really play a game which is CPU intensive like RTS stuff or you wanna get the absolute highest frames rates in games like CSGO that is...) If you want to access the full power of the Ryzen 7 5800H, you can still do so by using the G-Mode profile in the Rapid Cool mode. This is the one mode that is essentially unchanged and is totally fine as the system can manage the temperatures with the fans at full blast. Now as for the GPU power draw, while the RTX 3060 is rated for 125W, we were seeing it hover mostly around 115W most of the time, no matter the mode. Just something to take note. TL:DR Just update the BIOS and/or reinstall Alienware Command Center if need be. The Dell G15 Ryzen Edition is now a solid gaming laptop that we can wholeheartedly recommend, especially for the price. Happy gaming!
Great Job! You really delivered! Subbed and hit the bell! I have some questions I wanted to ask, not all of them refer to this laptop specifically. some of them may become a video idea idk. Also, were you able to, at any point (even for a second), push the gpu to 125W? Can you do a tutorial on how to turn off the dgpu to save power while gaming on battery? Have you tried "Ryzen Controller"/"Amd APU Tuning Utility" ? how far can we push the APU?
@@fatemehhamounpou1815 We've only seen the GPU hit a peak of 125W before, but it never held a constant 125W. It usually hovers around 115W, no matter the load. I have heard this update is not available for the 120hz model. Is this true? Also, what sort of temps should I expect to see from this machine with a cooling pad?
Temps can climb normally upto 85 C but can also reach 95-97C even in game shift mode if you play certain games on ultra setting that constantly consumes 80-95W of electricity by the RTX card. I noticed if my RTX consumes upto 50-60W then the CPU temps also hovers between 85-90 C'. So I just play games on medium setting to avoid high GPU usage or just use Ryzen Controller.

Hello there , so I have the Ryzen edition with the 3060 , and Ryzen 7 5800h , my g mode button doesn't seem to work and i cant figure out why , does anyone know how to fix this problem ?
I know this is almost a year old, but have there been any recent changes you're aware of? I'm getting this laptop sometime in the week. Oh also can I ask what CPU and GPU you had in your tests?
So mine works pretty much flawlessly, but as soon as it begins running on battery power, it sometimes crashes. Usually when I'm stressing it, running several apps. I can't really find anyone having the same specific issue as me.
Hey man.. regarding the MUX switch.. do you have to enable or disable the hybrid option in the bios to have a the laptop fully dedicated to the GPU? Please let me know.
I tried running benches on both but I see that in the previous bios I had a faster bench in comparison to the new bios. And I did a test with that hybrid graphics option both disables and enabled and see only a little better performance.
@@chrisunlmtd I think you need to disable hybrid mode so the optimus will turn off. Think of it like hybrid=optimus. With optimus/hybrid disabled, it will be direct connection to the gpu meaning more performance but also worse battery consumption

I have no idea what you mean. But if you’re asking if it comes as the default BIOS from the factory, that would be heavily dependent on which batch of G15 you’re actually getting.
do we need to update to the latest bios?
which one do u prefer ? rog strix or dell g15 5515 ?????
any idea of how to active the bios advanced menu in these laptop ???? ( not the easy F2 to enter ) i want the advanced menu options . thanks
Downloading right now!
I love this laptop!! Dell has really come through with the bios updates for thermals, mux switch enabled and vbios update that increases the 3060 to 130w. MS Flight Sim runs really well on it. along with the Alienware 610m mouse, the 510h 7.1 headset and the Dell gaming light backpack 17 makes for a prefect mobile gaming setup for very reasonable $$
Does ryzen 5 rtx 3050 has mux switch?
@@suryateja566 no
@@mrbrad4637 wdym no there’s a bio update for the Ryzen 5 rtx 3050
@@brat4fashion I'm talking about the 5800h and 3060 version that's the one with the bios update that enables the mux switch
I have all my updates done but the maximum graphics power in nvidia control centre still is 125w for some reason.
Do I download all the updates on the site?
Can someone explain to me in detail in how to get to the mux switch menu?
Glad i stumbled to this follow up video, i just purchased it today - do u guys think the bios update will come with it or do i need to update it manually?
And what does alien comman center do? Sorry im new to these things 😅
What can you say about the screen refresh rate?
thank you for making this video
I have heard this update is not available for the 120hz model. Is this true? Also, what sort of temps should I expect to see from this machine with a cooling pad?
The 1.4 Bios worked for me in 120hz. Played Horizon Zero Dawn and CPU was at 78C average without G mode. Will update with cooling pad.
@@aaron-gz I downloaded the latest Bios, but for some reason I still get temps of up to 92C when playing American Truck Simulator with a cooling pad.
@@aaron-gz what version you have intel or ryzen
Temps can climb normally upto 85 C but can also reach 95-97C even in game shift mode if you play certain games on ultra setting that constantly consumes 80-95W of electricity by the RTX card. I noticed if my RTX consumes upto 50-60W then the CPU temps also hovers between 85-90 C'.
So I just play games on medium setting to avoid high GPU usage or just use Ryzen Controller.
Do you know how to fix the screen problems dell has?
thats really helpful
I have same version but it doesnt max mux switch why
The exact model?
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Had the thing a week and the fans would only turn on slow and rare, seen the video and started bios while watching the rest and BAM I hear the fans going nuts
Ahha! Glad it was of help!
@@Terafied stupid fans went out randomly while I just got it and had set it aside for updates,(mountains internet lol)
Darn thing was so hot I thought it was gonna set fire so I was lucky to find this
great video. so what steps do i need to take to have the temperature low? I already updated the bios..but even on normal use my Keyboards do get a bit hot
If you physically feel it’s getting warm, the best option would be to simply get a laptop fan/cooler.
@@Terafied or you could use a passive laptop cooler by using a riser... My laptop is on a riser which helps create better air flow than being flush on a desk
Wish the bios allowed for disabling turbo boost. I like to keep my temps low.
Agreed. Would’ve been great.
have you tried ryzen controller? is it safe to use?
As far as we remember, we couldn’t get it to work. But we don’t have the laptop any longer, so we can’t vouch for our statement either. Apologies.
Is this update already done if I get a new one today?
You can simply check by going into the bios during boot!
Isnt it possible to adjust the fan curves??? And also how do i know if G mode is on??
Sir a review of G15 vs lenovo 5 rtx 3060. which do you think is better?
does 5511 included in this update ? or is it just on 5515
We cannot confirm as we didn't try the 5511. Perhaps you might want to browse the forums.
Hello, should I disable the advanced GPU option in bios for only Nvidia performance?
I just ordered mine a few days ago.Do i need to do the bios update?
Check your BIOS version when you get it. If it’s the latest, then you don’t need to. If it isn’t, then do update it!
@Nekoro with which verisio did you get
?
Should i get this or the msi gf65?
Both are great options, go with whichever you prefer in terms of design and of course, price.
@@Terafied what about heating problems with the gf65?does it have any big problem with temperatures?i will of course undervolt it a lot and limit the clock speed so it doesnt boost
Is the screen good in color, I want to use it in graphics?
For graphics and editing and stuff? It’s doable, but not the best. Definitely not anything professional.
Hello there , so I have the Ryzen edition with the 3060 , and Ryzen 7 5800h , my g mode button doesn't seem to work and i cant figure out why , does anyone know how to fix this problem ?
Hold "fn" button on your keyboard before pressing the 'G' button.
Does the model with ryzen 5 5600h and rtx 3050 have a mux switch?
We aren't entirely sure. Check in with your local Dell vendor!
I know this is almost a year old, but have there been any recent changes you're aware of? I'm getting this laptop sometime in the week.
Oh also can I ask what CPU and GPU you had in your tests?
So disabling the mux switch will kill the battery life?
If you disable hybrid graphics, and only run the laptop on the dedicated GPU, battery life takes a hit for sure.
should I install the last version of the BIOS or slowly upgrade it as recomended on dell website?
Bro is it good to buy dell 5518 or dell g15?
Mux switch didn't appear for me after update
MUX switch is for 3060 models
Yes. That is what it’s for.
@@Terafied Yes I understand that... BUT which option is the correct option in the bios? Disable or enable?
@@chrisunlmtd I think you need to disable hybrid mode so the optimus will turn off. Think of it like hybrid=optimus.
With optimus/hybrid disabled, it will be direct connection to the gpu meaning more performance but also worse battery consumption
Should I get this or the alienware M15 R4
If the R4 is on sale and you don’t need the latest features, sure, why not?
The screen is still an issue tho, MVA screen isn't good enough
i dont get why no one checks for pc udates out of the box especially laptops. if you go to dell update app on the laptop they also have the BIOS update and all the other 25 updates i had to do on my g15 recommend doing that, geforce exp to update my gpu and then last check the pcs app updates took me an hour and half to update my g15 with all the updates but runs like a ferrari now
How do i access mux switch??
How to change it back to previous BIOS?
Do you know, if the bios fix applies also to the i7 edition? the 5510?
We aren’t sure about that since we did not try the Intel version. Perhaps others have covered this on YT, so check them out!
Are you recommend Dell g15 5511 i7 rtx 3050
Is MUX switch available for the intel version with 11th generation intel i7 core as well?
We aren’t sure about that since we didn’t get to try that. Do look up other reviews for a better idea!
Yes
do anyone knows why i cant find the Mux switch when i go to bios
The fans didn’t seem to work unless I turned on the G mode. I’ll try downloading the bios
Would this be good in a school usage? (Battery life, keyboard etc)
It’ll be decent. Just know it isn’t light per se.
Ive owned two versions of this laptop since it's release and never had any of these temperature issues at all, wild af.
You lucked out!
Do you guys have Keyboard rollover issues? My G15 5515 does not allow pressing more than 3 keys simultaneosly 😐
Hey bro I really really want to buy the dell g15 ryzen version can u tell me how’s your experience especially performance and battery when normal usage?
Is it same 12700h with rtx 3060 model? Does this model have mux switch?
You’ll have to check in with your local Dell rep for that, we can’t be too sure.
Can you advise me which one is better?
Dell G15 gaming or lenovo legion 5 pro
Legion 5 Pro, if you want the RTX 3070.
Is the keyboard RGB?
Depends on the SKU you get.
Is this bios automaticly appied if i buy this laptop today, since I ordered it already?
Does updating bios affect warranty?
Updating bios doesn’t affect warranty. As for whether it comes with it, it depends on which batch of the G15 you got.
Do you guys have Keyboard rollover issues? My G15 5515 does not allow pressing more than 3 keys simultaneosly 😐
What would be a better overall laptop, Legion 5 Non-pro with the same specs or this?
Comes down to price and offers. Either will perform great.
i can´t see the mux switch on the bios, i have the 1.8 version someone have idea??
Do tou have r5 5600h and rtx 3050 ones ?
So is the 5600h rtx 3050 also fixed?

I uninstalled the alienware comand center but where to reinstall it?? I can't find it
You might have to find it through Microsoft Store.
