There was water on the bottom of that pan! Water, food, or oil that gets under a hot pan can cause marking or pitting. Otherwise foods and oils cause a cleaning challenge when they get burned into the surface!
I have a glass top that I really like but you do have to learn how to use it unless you don’t care if it gets beat up!

Our Whirlpool range just cracked after 2.5 years. Small white dots had formed under the glass (UNDER, not cleanable) shortly after purchasing, which the company told us was because we let the burner get "too hot"? They never went away and eventually caused the surface to crack. (The main crack runs right through the biggest white spot.)
We are now considering another glasstop stove, but we don't want a repeat of this issue. What does "too hot" mean? Was that really the cause? Is it more likely that we used a pan with a wet bottom and that caused the marking/pitting that you describe? Is it our older cookware with uneven bottoms? One sales rep said it might have been our use of cast iron cookware? I'm so confused @_@
