The 5.4L 2vs are fine, they have the same issue with the 4.6 of blowing out spark plugs but it's not a piece of junk like the 2004-2009 5.4 3vs.

419,875 miles on my 03 F150 5.4 2 valve and runs like new, no kidding like new all original powertrain, valve covers never open. Original parts last forever, original waterpump, starter, radiator, hoses, except 2, original except plugs and coils ( and yes regular things, the alternator was replaced). As far as the plugs go, tighten to about 20 and they are fine. Ford specified, I think 10 to 12. I agree with him on the Avalanche too, although I've never had one. I think the 2nd generation Avalanche was a great looking vehicle. Towards the end of the video, your hating on the WRONG 5.4. The 5.4 was ruined in the 2004 when they changed it drastically to a 3 valve and a vvt design. It's absolutely wrong, because there are too many examples of the 5.4 2 valve going way beyond 350,000. The 5 4 3 valve is a totally different animal( or devil 😈 😈). 100% agreed on the 4.6, that's a great engine for sure. There is a utube video of a guy that has a Crown Vic, maybe an 07 or so with 1 million miles, he did have something fairly minor in the engine fail at 850,000? or some incredible mileage like that. The 5.3s are the stars of many utube video " bangin that rev limiter" . Almost as great as a 350.

I've got an 04 Avalanche with 240k. It lives up north so it is rusty as hell. Chunks of body, rockers, gas tanks straps, ...etc. fall off regularly. If you are buying one that has been up north, check that frame and the entire braking system. Once one line goes, the rest are close behind. Ditto for the translines.

Idk if there’s issues calculating MPGs but the numbers I hear you say in your videos seem pretty inflated. 18-20mpg on a full size v8 of older trucks maybe on the highway, not going against wind flow, on a day that’s not needing air conditioning, and going downhill 😂
Most full size trucks are normally anywhere from 10-16mpg average depending how heavy or not your foot is I think.

Do they make the bed sides high purposefully so people can't reach into the bed? The Avalanche looks like it has trim to make it even more difficult. I'm 72 and have owned these trucks: 53 Studebaker 1/2 ton, 69 C20 CC CST Longhorn, 70 C10 w/spring rear suspension, and a 74 Datsun 620 Lil Hustler. None of them had high bed sides. (and all had excellent front visibility.)
Are there any modern trucks that are lower? Maybe an S10 Xtreme? Is there even a spec for how tall the bed sides are? I'd hate to have to replace a battery in one of these modern trucks - enter the Over Engine Creeper.

Agreed on both top 2 pics. I have a 2000 f150 4.6 2wd and paid $400 for it cause it needed a transmission, ac wasnt working and cruise control. Paid roughly $1300 to get that all fixed (used expedition transmission) and other then cosmetics, recently after two years of ownership needing a radiator and thermostat, its been a workhorse. 239k miles and going. My dad has an 01 silverado 2500hd 6.0 and that is arguably a nicer truck, but my dad prefers the way my f150 rides. Regardless, for the pricepoint, they are reliable. That being said, i thought the 2v 5.4 was a good engine too?

The 99 to 2006 Silverado is a really good truck. The 4l60 is okay. I'm at 260k on mine and it's still going strong. Just change the fluid and it will keep going.
I've had a few minor interior issues, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I was able to do it myself.

Surprised you didn't include the 02-07 Ford Falcon. Though hard to get one with low mileage the straight six just keeps on going which explains why Ford says the Barra was the best engine it ever made. Shame about the gearbox which is known for failures around 180k and cost $3500 for a new one. So that's something too watch out for. Also watch out for rust as these were often left out in the weather and not washed.

    So I'm looking for a truck and I've found all 3 in decent shape and mileage.04 Ford 4.2 140k,06 Chevy 4.3 150k,2001 tundra 3.4 98k
Through all my research even though the tundra is supposed to be highly rated apparently it's been over hyped. The first gen tundra was were slapped together they stole a lot of the body and looks from the F-150 and tried stealing the name too. It may be a reliable truck but it gets bad gas mileage and they had horrible design features with the front end ball joints plus since they only made that model a few years parts aren't at the junkyard and kind of hard to find and they also had a tunnel punched in the floor for the transmission instead of a flat floor
The F-150 is tried and true and a lot of people have good report on the 4.2 for its longevity. The body styling looked good the gas mileage in their towing capacity was pretty good as well and you'll see a lot with over 300,000 still running. Finally the Chevy 4.3 was strong all the way across the board but known for its problems like the electronic brake control module and the evaporator core otherwise the design of the engine the placement of the items in the engine and the ease to work on them. Apparently they make plenty of torque and again you'll see them with 300 plus still running strong.
I guess I'm just having a hard time pulling the trigger on a Ford versus chevy. I've had both.

I really think Ram made huge strides by utilizing the ZF 8 speed. The Chrysler transmissions are garbage, I can’t argue that. The 4th generation hemi trucks with the 8 speeds are really reliable and perform far better than most trucks. I will say that the GM 6.2/10 speed will out perform the ram set up, but you’ll pay for that. And you still won’t get a 3.92 gear.
