It's silly to worry about any of these high fat nuts; it's good fat. Besides, fat doesn't make you fat, carbs make you fat. It's about the glycemic index/impact of the food. Any nut you choose will be healthier for you to snack on than candy, potato chips or corn-based snacks which is what most people snack on.

Brazil nuts are the best source of selenium. They weren't even mentioned. NO one I know eats a cup of macadamia nuts; they're too filling to do so. And I'm going to continue to eat my almonds.
You can overdose on selenium (starts getting toxic at around 1000+% of the minimum daily recommendation of 60 to 75 micrograms) based on where the Brazil nuts were produced (including different parts of Brazil) which can result in pretty serious health effects over a long period of time. It's crazy because some Brazil nuts have less than 5% as much selenium as others do. So with some Brazil nuts, just one nut will give you 100% of your daily requirement, while with others, an entire handful won't. I wish there was a way you could tell, as actual Brazil nuts are way healthier than selenium pills. You absorb nutrients far better from food than from supplements. Most commercial Brazil nuts sold in the US come from Bolivia, which are usually on the far lower end of selenium content. It's pretty rare, but this is one of few foods that natural overdose can definitely happen if one eats certain Brazil nuts without any restrictions...

Well, I disagree about the thing you mentioned about peanuts. They definitely are high in fats but doesn't our bodies need fat too? 20% of our daily calories should come from fats and if you are consuming less fat then you might face joint pains, lack of glow on your skin and various other health issues. Thank you.
All information is not true. My grand parents have been eating peanuts 🥜 in large quantities so do i. We’re neither overweight nor unhealthy. I really think this human body is more complicated machine than we think.
Every winter I regularly eat peanut, also called monkey nut so that to make blood thinner to prevent from blood clotting and heart attack. I love to eat peanut 🙂☘️🍁🌺🌸🌹🍀
Peanuts contain resveratrol, the substance that makes red grapes so healthy. They contain monounsaturated fats with no transfats (unlike margarine and butter). They're tops for protein. My doctor frowns on butter and margarine, but he's fine with all-natural peanuts and peanut butter. They don't get treated with toxic chemicals like canola and soy oils. I'm taking my chances with aflatoxins, but I consider transfats and too many polyunsaturated oils a greater risk. When I was a vegetarian, peanuts gave me a lot of protein, alone or with sunflower seeds.
I've gone most of my life not eating nuts minus peanut butter. 2 weeks ago I finally realized there was a "nut" I actually liked which suprised me and those are pistachios (which aren't really a nut but a seed). What I have noticed after I have started eating them is that my cravings have vanished, I had an odd obsession with food before this. All I thought about was eating. But perhaps these nuts have given me the nutrients my body was lacking which made the cravings seem to evaporate. My only downfall to pistachios is that I used to be a very good sleeper and could fall asleep easily... they say pistachios have melatonin however, after starting to eat these I haven't had a proper nights sleep in 4 days because of increased energy which isn't a bad thing, just bad when you're trying to sleep.
So, we should not eat cashews, cause people who harvest them are poorly paid ? OK, lets take away their source of income. That will help them. So "smart" !
Thanks for the orientation. As Europeans, I can say that we mostly consume a great many food items that contain almonds. We eat them in connection with breakfast as toppings, cakes, marzipan, etc. They are considered to be extremely healthy and are also part of dieting, albeit in limited quantities (approx. 7 pieces as a snack). We import them mainly from Spain, which grows a large production and, as far as I know, does not complain about the large water consumption. On the other hand, it happens with Avocados, which the Spaniards have chosen to reduce the cultivation of, since they require a lot of water if anything.
Ever since I was diagnozed Type II my breakfast has been 1/4 cup of mixed nuts (no peanuts) and an apple and once I got acclimated to it I can say that I do not feel hungry again throughout most of the day and I know it's thanks to the nuts and not the apple. A tuna sandwich on whole wheat takes care of lunch and a serving of vegetable soup for dinner and maybe a salad and another piece of fruit during the day gets me through.

1.1 gallons of water, and to grow a pound takes 1,900 gal/ The thing about that is that walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, and cashews all use roughly the same amount of water to grow as well, but it is the almond in high demand, California is in drought that has most blaming the nut industry. Because people are buying more almonds and nuts in general, farmers are shifting towards growing more of them, which lead to pointing the blame at them for the water crisis in California. A farmer said that almonds really aren't any more thirsty than any of his other crops “People need to understand that everything you eat takes water”. Now, we're feeling like a scapegoat for over 30 years of water mismanagement in this state” because of how much criticism her farm and other almond farmers are taking. This article concludes with a great point that “ the water it takes to grow any vegetable, fruit or nut is a mere fraction of what is required to raise animal protein” and goes on to say “It takes more than 106 gallons of water, experts say, to produce one ounce of beef”, so just imagine how much water a whole herd of cattle would use.

My grandma has had many Almond trees for as long as I can remember. 12 was the most at one point. These days there aren't as many. Most likely from how old they were. My grandma was the kind to not use much anything if she didn't need it. She's use slivers of sunlight coming in the house for plants, and just moved the plants when the sun moved. She didn't like to run the water and waste it waiting for it to get hot, so she would microwave the water to wash dishes (yeah, i know not the best) Those types of things. Her backyard was always soooooooo dry, there would be cracks in the dirt that went down at least a foot. I once accidentally left the faucet on with a leaky hose, didn't realize it for at least two days. The dirt that watered went out MAYBE ten feet, and I could still walk on the dirt, it wasn't muddy. These almond trees get plenty of almonds every year. ( I just have to beat the birds to the Almonds every year.) So either these trees adapted, or don't need as much water as the video is saying.
Hazelnuts are also known as filberts. Acorns are generally not eaten and they require a lot of work for them to be edible. Acorns make up a good part of traditional American Indian food and I have tried some. Chestnuts and cashews are high in carbohydrates. Horse chestnuts are never eaten. There used to be some horse chestnut trees in my neighborhood park in Jersey City. I always heard in my childhood that they were different from chestnuts and not edible. The chestnuts we eat today in America are mainly from Italy as American chestnut trees suffer from a blight. As for pine nuts and I had the bad taste experience, I had no idea what the problem was. I thought I was poisoned. Then I learned about pine nuts and that really horrible taste. It's likely that Chinese pine nuts are the main culprit. North American and European pine nuts do not generally cause that awful metallic taste in the mouth. Before eating pine nuts I ask for their provenance. When not from China, the taste is fine.
As long as almonds are still stocked at my grocery stores I'll eat them until they stop growing them. I have started to eat walnuts not much on flavor but benefits out weigh this. All the other nuts on the Do not eat list I don't eat. Thanks for the info.
You want to go for black walnuts they are way better than the ones you usually find in stores but they are more expensive. Luckily I know exactly where to find some free black walnuts and I bet 99.99999999% of people in my area Don't know about theses trees location.
The skins in almonds are very high in lectins. I consume slivered almonds as the skins have been removed. Almond milk (just water and skinned almonds) I do drink with a bit of liquid stevia. Peanuts 🥜 are in the legume 🫘 family. No thank you. Again they are not recommended because they are also a high lectin food. Walnuts are a favorite and I do get a milk that’s simply water and walnuts. I just add stevia to sweeten. Pecans and pistachios are also on my list. It’s a plan in the near future to try making butter from both of these.
Hazel Nuts are bitter when raw & still keep a bit of that bitterness when steamed/boiled/smoked ! Sunflower (seed) Butter (w/out any sweetners) are also slightly BITTER ! Most Americans are unaware of it because the 2 are mostly sold saturated in something sugary & Hazel Nuts are somehow roasted/baked down to a point that nearly all of that bitterness [& nutrishion] is cooked out of them when they go into a nut butter or a candy/chocolate /dèsèrt.

With climate change, increasing drought conditions and half the world seeming to be on fire every summer I guess the RIGHT environment to plant almonds (which require a gallon of water PER nut to produce) would be ATLANTIS.
The macadamia nuts are very costly. An ounce of them contain 10-12 kernels. But there is very little carbohydrates in them and therefore they do not spike insulin, which is excellent for people who developed insulin-resistance or pre-diabetes. The fat in macadamia (as well as any fat from nuts) does not harm your health in any way. The origin of body fat is not dietary fat. The cause of body fat is the excess in carbohydrates, not the extra-calories or the fats. Avoiding fats means consuming high carb food, because when the producers take out the natural fat from natural food, they add sugar to enhance the taste. Since the human body can only process some 2 teaspoon sugars per day (that includes all forms of carbs and sugars, including the ones from bread), adding sugars in this way is highly detrimental to the health. Therefore, whatever nuts are very good for the health - providing they are in raw form. One side effect of larger amounts per day (more than say 2 cups/ day) may be, for some, the constipation. Also, the phytates in most nuts prevent absorption of essential minerals, such as Zn, so better limit the nuts to one serving after one meal, and do not spread them in all the meals of the day. You may also soak them overnight to avoid these negative side effects.
Nuts unfortunately are high in omega 6 which is pro inflammatory fat, and forget about the omega 3 content, it’s very small in nuts apart from macadamia, so no nuts are not that healthy I’m afraid
@@bartkuk1 I do not eat more than 30 g of nuts/day, so the intake of omega 6 is low. I also take on spoon of cod liver oil per day and use only olive oil. So I keep the ratio omega 6 to omega 3 at a reasonable value. Or at least I hope I do 🙂
Wow, I new about cashews, but was shocked to hear about Almonds...over a gallon of water per almond!! That's worse than the water wasted making Coke! And it comes just after I have received a kilo of almond butter. I'll have to find an alternative from the good list. I did read a while back that the biggest buyer worldwide of hazelnuts is Ferrero Rocher for their Nutella spread. I think I'll replace the almonds with pecans though. There's a supplier in the UK (Nutural World) who use artisan methods to make their nut butters. That's where I've being buying the almond butter from and it's delicious. Thanks for the great presentation and I love the channel.
One of the most common allergies for kids and adults are peanuts and products made from peanuts. I am one of those people. The problem with any nuts is we eat too many at a time! Mixed nuts w/o peanuts at Costco say 1/4 cup is a serving. That's how I don't overdo....measure! Enjoy the treat which is good for us but watch amount. They are fattening if you are concerned about weight.😊
Sadly for me, within my food allergies list are both Peanuts AND Tree Nuts (ALL Nuts EXCEPT for Almonds & Coconut, that I know of thus far might consider re-adding Pine Nuts back & see what happens, as I absolutely LOVED Pine Nuts as a kid), so thus I stick to only having Almonds or Coconut (especially love Dried Coconut)
I eat a whole -food plant based diet and I eat nuts daily. I was surprised Brazil nuts didn't make the list as they are such a good source of selenium. Pretty high in fat and calories though so I only have a couple!
Almonds, and generally all nuts has phytic acid in it- which will inhibit the absorption of minerals like zinc, iron and calcium. For eg, if you eat almonds alone or with other foods together, the absorption of above said minerals will be reduced.
So, even though almonds, and cashews are healthy, we don’t like what almond trees do to the environment, or the fact that cashews are harvested by cheap labor. Now I understand the term, “Liberal Nut” a lot better.
The king of nuts has got to be the Pili Nut. It has the highest magnesium content of all nuts, it's got omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. It's also a great tasting nuts.
Macadamia's are great for low-carbers and keto dieters. Ditto for peanuts. They'll keep you healthy and they're yummy! Thank you for the info on cashews, something I didn't know.
I love my Pistachio nuts! Eating them every day is a must do.for me! I buy them in the Garlic & Onion flavor at Trader Joes! A large bag is so affordable and delicious!

The MAIN point you don't mention is the ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 content of the nuts. That is BY FAR the most important factor.

Health and environmental factors are two different issues in claiming you should not eat them.
Brazil nuts are the best source of selenium. They weren't even mentioned. NO one I know eats a cup of macadamia nuts; they're too filling to do so. And I'm going to continue to eat my almonds.
Who the heck can buy macadamia nuts anyway? They are expensive as f*ck!
Youre correct, one brazil gives us our required dosage of selenium....
And too expensive.
Hahaha😂 yes macadamias expensive but not as expensive as buying A very expensives purse 👜 so macadamia still affordable and i eat 10pcs a day 😊health is wealth

Peanuts are not a nut, but legume. I freeze nuts so they are fresh and not rancid.
Well, I disagree about the thing you mentioned about peanuts. Peanuts aren't nuts. They're legumes
This video makes me want to go out and purchase almonds, cashews, macadamia, pine nuts, and peanuts today.
All information is not true. My grand parents have been eating peanuts 🥜 in large quantities so do i. We’re neither overweight nor unhealthy. I really think this human body is more complicated machine than we think.
Now I don't understand. I read that Almonds are very good for you, that's why I eat them
No nutritional issue, environmental issues. Video states each almond needs minimum of one gallon of water to grow..
I come from New Zealand and I love Whittaker’s Hazel Nut slabs Whittakers are a NZ chocolate maker
Peanuts aren't nuts either. They are legumes.
You know what else causes metal taste in mouth? Being sick with the common cold. I love organic unsalted peanuts and almonds
6:16 ok but still that's not a reason to stop eating them 🥱
Brazilian nuts and walnuts recommended
All the nuts are beneficial to us. Eat variety of nuts including almonds and cashews.

Most healthy
Very good info.. Thanks👌👌👌
And very good nuts too
I will still eat almonds. The only reason you said is because of the water. Good thing I know water cycle.

@@shankargouda1626 almonds are good for our health. The only reason is that it needs more water for it to grow. Water scarcity.

@Terrie huff Hiv really? your nuts
As for pine nuts and I
had the bad taste experience, I had no idea what the problem was.
California almonds are irradiated, if that matters to you.
Thanks for watching!

Yes I think we should eat a lot more Almonds ,they are very good when planted in the right environment.

They are fattening if you are concerned about weight.😊
