I just can't understand their thought process. TWO times their games failed because their games literally did not have enough players in the entire world for their game to function. Clearly, their goal should be to accumulate as much of a playerbase as possible so this doesn't happen a third time. What do they do? -Release a game on the console with the smallest playerbase of the big three -Charge money just to access the game, when their main competition is free-to-play, and when the franchise's previous entry was free-to-play -Charge money after purchasing the game to play individual rounds The payment model of this game would be a bad idea for a free-to-play game with a pre-existing, strong playerbase. This is straight up suicidal. I'd be genuinely surprised if this wasn't some sort of social experiment to see just how big of a failure you could make out of a franchise.
I believe they have a partnership with Microsoft and so it probably takes them less resources to do (the original game and the free to play version of Origins were on Xbox) I do disagree with the model but they said the reason for it was that it was an efficient way to cover their server costs, I don’t see another way they could have done it, they definitely couldn’t make the money from initial purchases, because if you bought the original game or played free to play Origins, you have the 2020 version, because it’s not a new game, it’s an update to the existing game. Most people that would play The Culling most likely already had it and so Xaviant couldn’t make any more money from those people. There’s a chance their subscription model could have worked in 1 of 2 ways, either make the game free to download (so you don’t have to pay for Xbox Live Gold/Game Pass Core ontop of the online pass subscription for the game) and remove the tokens, or, if they had a partnership with Microsoft like it very much seems they did they most likely could have got it on game pass and charged $20 for the game outside of Gamepass for those who don’t have it, it’s insane to me how they didn’t think to integrate their game into game pass considering how popular it is and how effective it would have been as a measure to keep the servers going as Microsoft consistently pays out based on they player metrics on the game on game pass, they wouldn’t have had to worry about server costs.

@@danang5 nah almost every single mobile game takes off to some degree, remember that pile of shit clash of clans? yep still massive and was the biggest grossing game at one point although being free, same with raid, same with tons of other absolute copy and paste shit, too many adults stuck in a situation of not being able to use a coping mechanism for places like work or outside of home so they get into the biggest trend going and feed the system, heck i played a game years ago about green army men, literally like a clash of clans but green army men and didn't seem special or big in any way, a Chinese owned game marketed towards Americans and Russians, i only found out they receive thousands of dollars a day alone for a game nobody seems to know of, like at all by people buying 'packs' or resources on game which turns out to be like full triple AAA pricing for characters to unlock and increase power in. people always says and claim kids possess these markets of games like mobile or thre mommy or daddies, but they dont at all, same way EA makes billions a year from fifa, from ADULT men not just kids, a majority of actual adult men without special needs or a legal status of such pouring there hard earned money into a gullible system that pays nothing back out. i say it always but there is a demand, otherwise we'd have regulations and such or pathways to not allow weird little sick hentai games to be a market on steam, or Battle royale pastes, but thats the thing, people keep buying, then they complain its broken or its not getting updated and released because its Early Access, its crazy since the consumers are actually the ones in control yet we cry and shout about things not changing, why dont we change our actions and mentality? sorry thats my 2 cents.

I love this but besides that it’s kinda weird they moved it
Halo reach: Managed to sustain a semi active player base for 11 years Bad company 2: Managed to sustain an active community for 11 years Star Wars the old republic: Managed to gain a huge spike in players after re-releasing on steam The culling: Managed to kill their entire player base in a day
Why are you comparing known franchises, with passionate playerbases, with a steam money grab made by people that have a history of not making good games?
pc @Fa Mulan it wasn't ereleased on PC initially was it? im talking about the xbox playerbase the reason reach lost alot of its player base on pc is because microsoft introduced this stupid leveling system on pc had they not done that they would have been able to sustain a health polayer base on pc too
You win by not nopeing out of the lobby before a match is made. It's more a war of attrition with the server itself. Glory is yours, if you're patient.😌
That model sounds like an AI scanned the last 5 years of "successful" games and then it made a game using that data, but everything's turned up to eleven.
I was top of the leaderboard when the first culling game was “popular”, and it really does pain me to see how bad xaviant has tarnished their name and ruined everything they had going for them, and still haven’t learned. 1 free Match per day??! How do they think that will even work? They don’t even have a playerbase anymore and they think they can get 16 people to use their free token at a set point of time to even start a match? They have got to be some of the dumbest game developers of all time.
Same. I loved how dedicated the small community was, and not gonna lie, I loved the first one to death. Then the devs kept making bad decision after bad decision. It was easily one of my favorite games of all time, and then they shit on it, and tried to make a sequel. Honestly a very sad moment.
Somehow, somewhere, the dev team for this game sat around and thought, "Yeah, I know people didnt play our game even when it was free, but SURELY theyll play it when we take away that free to play aspect, but ALSO make you pay per match"
Hons Hon Central Right? EA has the power to push people around, and show the money they gain from their practices. They are successful, despite being bullies. These culling guys are trying to jump on the gravy train, but run around like chihuahuas, a minor annoyance.
The worst bit: "Win tokens by winning matches" This means that even if it manages to take off, winners play for free and new players have to pay more to lose. It's literally the opposite of the pay to win model
It's like when you go to a lazer tag place during off-hours, and pay $8 for a game with only one other person, who just chases you around the whole time.
God, I didn't realize that was the same studio that did Lichdom: Battle Mage. Like, Lichdom was far from AAA, but it was still a really decent single player game with really cool spells. You could combine spells and make crazy stuff. It had a really strong concept and gameplay, even if the story was like a 6/10 at best. And it looked cool, like good animations and particle effects. How far they've fallen.
It was also one of those games that does the annoying thing of making achievements have stupid numbers, so once I evened out I uninstalled, which is a shame
The Culling, the original was fun, the only problem was that as time went on they listened to their community a bit **too** well, like they started implementing stuff left and right because one person requested it, until eventually the game turned to shit and lost popularity, I was around it's final days, and I gotta say it was pretty sad seeing something so good just lose it's life and eventually come to a complete stop, till eventually servers were shut down, and it became a piece of history
So this should be a lesson that the players can be slightly liable for a game's downfall, because they're dumbasses and devs should never listen to them.
Ngl this just sounds like a way to get free advertising. Just say something so stupid that people make videos on it. Then just remove that feature when the game is released.
People like to say all publicity is good publicity. That's not the case when your trying to sell a product. Maybe there is some guy out there who likes to collect shitty games, but other than that I can't see people wasting $6 for no reason.
I think the Unlimited only applies to how many matches could be played, although it's useless since there's 0 chance someone is going to buy it anyways.

Lawbreakers was actually FUN as FUCK though, just their brain-fucking-dead team poured all of their money into marketing instead of actually maintaining the game. Its a shame honestly.
I will forever blame the Overwatch community for killing that game. As soon as it was announced everyone said it was an overwatch knockoff and that itd kill overwatch blah blah blah. I pre ordered it. They only wanted 30-40$ for the game not even a full 60$ Man it was fun as hell. It was like unreal tournament almost. Classic arcade shooter with some fun characters to play. The gameplay was also pretty smooth and it played well. It was actually a good game but no one gave it a chance. Probably wouldve done better with more characters. The gamemode they had with Justin Roiland voicing the ball was the best game mode. The Zero G zones in the game were a fresh change of pace as well. I wish the servers were still operational. They shut it down.
GenocideGeoff That’s true, every game that is an FPS and has characters with abilities seems to be an “overwatch killer” which I wish would be a statement that stops. Would be better if people took these games a base value and not say it’ll kill this game or that game.
@@vlmpineapple3934 they added basic shit, its still boring and terrible. A sub par single player game, and doesn't work at all as a Co op game since you can't complete quest together etc
VLM Pineapple that’s honestly kind of sad. Because to me that says enough people are playing 76 that Bethesda will keep updating it. I’d love to see the sales numbers because I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the most profitable fallout game solely due to micro transactions
Yea that always annoyed me greatly. When i played they did keep up on it with constant bug fixes, new content for every holiday as well as lore/story driven events and server maintenance but they charged way to much for the game to then turn around and ask 15 a month to play it. . I found out recently everything but the latest expansion is included with the subscription now and that it was dropped to 12.99 a month. I also heard that they began a system to exchange in game gold for game time which does sound like it would reward loyal players and help with the inflation of the ingame economy which had become almost impossible for a newbie to compete in. In the past they had dropped the price of the old stuff but they are doing now what they should have done 10+ years ago price wise. if someone has played since launch and bought every expansion they have paid them thousands. Even right now at 12.99 its gonna be 156$ per year + the cost of the expansion. But even that's not really worth it considering how much they dumbed it down and ruined the story with the panda nonsense and who knows what other fresh sins since i left. They did a fine job making a fun game up to and including cataclysm i'll give em that. If they would have done the smart thing with their pricing earlier and kept up with the quality content they might not have dropped from 12 million peak subscribers to the 1.7 they had at their lowest. from what I hear people are very happy with classic and getting back on track with the storyline and what not but stuff was getting hairy for a while.
What do you mean? This business model is clearly what every gamer wants. Instead of swimming in our piles of money, we gamers should be spending it just to have the chance of being graced with a battle royale game so good that its mere existence is a miracle. Is xaviant games so out of touch with society that they think people will pay a fortune just to play their game? Nay. They know that anyone and everyone would go straight into debt and sell their souls just for the chance to play even 5 minutes of this unearthly masterpiece. I wouldn't be surprised if an entire religion formed around this game. Ok, for real though, how dumb can xaviant actually get? Could this be the first time in history that an entire company gets collectively diagnosed with a mental disorder?

We’re doing you a favor by giving you a free round. You don’t even deserve that. We’re that nice. You’re welcome... where’s the applause?”
I believe this is intentional: they're getting a shitton of free publicity, and they'll follow it up by saying something like "we listened to feedback and will be changing to blahblahblah", and will switch to a F2P model. They're probably hoping that this gives them enough press that they'll be able to get a stable playerbase.
I doubt it's only just a publicity stunt because it is an XBOX exclusive. Also there are already better free to play battle royale out there like COD, apex legends so why even bother to play this shit.
@@kurseng Not sure why people are arguing with me as if I think the devs had a good idea. It's a terrible idea, regardless of motivation. My opinion is that it the pricing scheme is *so undeniably over-the-top-stupid* that it can only be intentional.
