  • If you felt a bit of a tremble in the city of Melbourne last night, you're not alone. And no, it wasn't a large possum on your roof.
    MELBOURNE EARTHQUAKE
It was actually an earthquake! If you were up late in Victoria last night, you might have got a bit of a fright. Because at around 11:41 pm, Melbourne was hit by a magnitude 3.8 earthquake. It actually came out of the city of Sunbury, which is 40 kilometers away, and experts reckon it could be the biggest one that's been felt in Melbourne for more than 120 years because of how close it was to the city. Locals say they only felt it for a few seconds. And while there have been no reports of damage, there have been more than 25,000 reports from people around the state saying they felt it, and experts are calling for more to help understand just how far spread it was. Melbournians have been told to watch out for aftershocks in the coming days.
    PLANE DOOR
A man has been arrested for opening a door on a plane as it was landing in South Korea on the weekend! This is just moments after the passenger opened the emergency door while the plane was still 250 meters from the ground. Luckily nobody was hurt because it wasn't at a high enough altitude to cause serious damage, but some passengers were taken to hospital after experiencing breathing problems.
    WA PREMIER QUITS
Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan has announced he's stepping down as the state's leader and resigning from politics! The Labor politician was first elected to Parliament in 1996 and became Premier in 2017. He'll step down by the end of the week and says he's ready for a break.
    FRENCH OPEN
Kokkinakis, Kubler, and Hunter... Our Aussies are off to a flyer at the French Open. Jason Kubler grinded his way to a 5-set win, while the weather was clear for Storm Hunter who cruised into the 2nd round. But it was Thanasi Kokkinakis that caused an upset, taking down 20th seed Dan Evans in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, and yep, 6-4.
    F1
Over to Formula 1, and the most prestigious Grand Prix has turned into one of the slipperiest. After a downpour in Monaco, drivers were slipping and crashing on the track. But eventually, it was Red Bull's Max Verstappen who came out on top.
    SAM KERR
And finally, does Sam Kerr ever lose? If she does, I don't wanna know about it. The Aussie soccer superstar has helped Chelsea to their 4 Women's Super League title in a row, scoring twice in their 3-nil win over Reading. Chelsea won their last 7 games of the season, edging out Manchester United to finish on top of the table and take home the silverware.
    CANNES DOG AWARD
At Cannes Film Festival in France, while most eyes are on the Palme d'Or prize for best film, these folks have turned up for the Palm Dog, a special award given out each year to the best dog actor! The Palm Dog for 2023 goes to Messi from "Anatomy of a Fall." This year's winner was Messi the Border Collie, but judges say there was a "tsunami" of talented dogs acting in films this year, and the decision was ruff! I mean, tough.
    BEAR BREAK-IN
Now to Connecticut in the US, where a hungry black bear has raided a small bakery. It made quick work of the heist, terrifying one of the workers and legging it with 60 cupcakes in tow!
    MILLION PAWS WALK
And finally, back home for the Million Paws Walk! Which happened over the weekend. There were events all over the country with the goal of raising money for the RSPCA. Here in Perth, it's the first time in 3 years the walk has happened. And plenty of Perth's pooches participated proudly. How's that for alliteration.
