- The sudden agony of stubbing a toe or burning a finger can make even the most polite of us swear our heads off. It’s like a reflex - a quick-release valve for the shock. But why do expletives give us such a sense of relief? Why does it sometimes feel so good to swear?

We set out to explore the science of swearing, prompted by a question from CrowdScience listener Gadi. Psychological studies have shown bad language can relieve pain, or even make us stronger; we test out these theories for ourselves and try to figure out why certain words are charged with such physical power.
We don’t just use strong words in shock or anger, either. They can help us to bond with others, to express joy, solidarity, or creativity. And although people curse all over the world, it’s not quite the same everywhere. We hear what people like to swear about in different countries, and whether swearing in a second language can ever be quite so satisfying.

Swearing is ALWAYS helpful, more descriptive, and more stress relieving. I f’king love it.
I found that the use of substitute swear words on the sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf was very satisfying, in a very similar way to actual swearing.
It's the short version of the serenity prayer.....
I am a Sri Lankan Buddhist. It's amazing. I never swore.
Can't agree less on swearing in s foreign language. I nowadays swear almost always in English despite being born Italian. That's most likely because I use either Japanese or English in my everyday life but rarely Italian. Notwithstanding it feels just the same as swearing in italian. And Japanese they don't swear despite the fact that they have many taboos. If they call you stupid that's one of the worst thing they can say. Even if they have worst words that that, and they have, those words does not seem to cut it. It's like you are just forcing it too much so they come out as unnatural and constructed, and I think that is very interesting
As a Cantonese speaking person, I can't find another other foul language contains all kind of human organs to swear of not to mention the Fxxx word. 😁😁😁 and it's kinna relaxing the stress and also happy to be creative in our swearing language, 😛
I found out that my friend has Hainanese root with the swearing of his grandpa to his mom that stuck in his tiny memory about Chinese words he heard when he was a little boy. It s quite helpful!
I'm trying not to it's a habit. I seldom put it in writing because it doesn't just slip out then. It's the inability to express oneself properly without knowledge a more descriptive adjective it's low brow and will be dismissed by someone you might want to reach.
favourite words:
1) Cuntification = beyond frustration
2) Cuntificatified = ruined to the point of hideousness
3) Cuntilicious = much better than delicious
4) Cuntstipated = frigid.
Some people need this really bad.
I use the replacement word Funter. As in "you massive Funter" or "close your legs mate, I can see your Funter".❤
I am a Hainanese growing up in Thailand which this culture doesnt allow a decent lady to swear. I swear when it s proper time to do so. (Especially on bed with my lovely hubby ^^ )
I'm a christian and i always do swear
If I lied I would be struck by lightning. I China we also say this one.
I'm a Christian and I don't swear but if I do I honestly feel really bad about it, not even good at all

I’m a Christian and sometimes I do swear. I always feel defeated and horrible afterwards. It *never* feels good.😞 I think telling people that it’s ok or acceptable, to do things that we know are wrong, is further destroying our society.
@@heisrisen9322 Me too, this is completely my feeling
