this man uses a great wide range of musical choices with the low and deep showing the voices of big people and the short high juxtaposing the elements noted before
The slower tempo and longer notes make it quite a sad and mournful tune. I think it's quite beautiful actually and could listen to this all day. No only is this beautifully composed, the performance is great and i can tell that the content creator is a great musician. Thank you goodnight and me is cool. Bye
Dutilleux is indeed a great composer. He must have a place besides the "avant-garde", since the richness of the music is mainly due to its diversity. We should not be so stupid to be enrolled in a combat opposing Dutilleux and the "avant-garde". It is interesting to note that Dutilleux wrote an "interlude" for the cellos of the orchastra after having published the work. So, the first recordings of the work did not include this"interlude". By chance, this recording was made later, so we have the splendid cello "interlude". It is impossible not to think to the cellos solo section in 'La Mer' of Debussy. (Note that the same thing happened with the final chord of his 2nd symphony. Intially, this was a perfect chord of C#major, which never satisfied the composer, but which is in some historical recordings such as Munch's. Dutilleux changed it for a more ambiguous final chord well after) Tortelier is getting famous for his interpretations of the french music of the XXth century.
Gérard Begni this so helpful. Would you supply some dates Although I met him T a hurried lunch that Gunther orchestrated in absentia more then thirty years ago ,I only have started to listen to his music recently Thus somber mood seens quite different then his first symphony .im not iPad clever so please excuse my lazy request
@@RanBlakePiano The somber mood is partly due to the absence of violons and violas. The work was commissoned by Rostropovich (but threre is no cello solo). It was created in 1978. The celli soli interlude was added only in 1991, which explains that it is mising in many excellent historic records. I think that this was an excellent idea; adding an heterogeneous movement in a two movement form. Beethoven did so in his "Waldstein" sonata, suppressing the nice andate, which was publix shed separely ("Favorite andante") and replacing it by some kind of harmonic wandering without any melodic cell. Dtiliieux my also haver remebered a similar section in "La mer" by Debussy, where celli play alone divided in 4, with some discrete horn reinforcements.
