Wyste your level matching by ear is appalling in this video haha. definitely an off day. but you're right they're not the same. The hardware definitely appears to have a high pass filter on the way in compared to the plugin. close though.
FWIW, recently tried this on an EVH-esque guitar track pitted against Valhalla DSP, Slate Classic, & Super Plate; this allowed the guitar tone to remain better intact. Like it. Thanks for the review. Cheers
Never owned the hardware unit - but in practice this reverb either sounds amazing with a quick tweaking, or I just run back to Fabfilter's arms for help. So far I love it.
Ordered this over a month ago not knowing what it would be. I own a Creme, and thought for 59€ it would be cool to own Tegeler´s first plugin. It was released on June 1st. I downloaded it, and I really like it. It´s totally different than any of the Reverbs I own.
The plug sounds very muddy to me compared to the hardware. I'm not keen and was really hoping that I would be. I love straight forward plugins that just do the job. Oh well.
Gotta say I like the initial settings a lot. That's a real smooth lush sound. And 3 knobs is highly appealing. Though I own some other decent verbs, will definitely be interested in purchasing when it goes on sale.
I feel like I would need to add a high pass filter to the plugin to get it nearer the hardware sound. It's SO much bassier for some reason. And the fact the control values are so different is weird. Sounds quite good still, but not at all the same.
@@TheJohnsofDoes ok so that undesirable effect makes it sound muddy or bassy or whatever. The point is that I think we agree. The modelling is not accurate.
That sounds how a reverb for pop/rock should sound, just tickeling the tunes, keeps the clean sound (if you haven't inserted it as a send?) 😊. I A/B:ed it against the reverbs from Arturia and my other favourite reverb, Tsar-1 from Softube and it's on pair with Tsar-1 but have a different flavour and in my ears deeper and more natural sounding than all Arturia reverbs from V-collection.
I think every plugin should have a meter that represents gain even if it's just the numbers I want to match in numbers first and then with my ears I mix my eyes first.
Been wanting that hardware unit for a while. It’s considerably brighter, and you can hear the tubes imo. Hardware does something nice to the stereo field too. That said, some Saturn and proper eq on the plug-in, and you might be able to achieve a close approximation to the hardware. As is common, the hardware just works. You’ll just need to fiddle with the software to make it work the same way. Looking forward to demoing it.
PS: got the demo. It’s awesome! Unlike any verb that I have. Very unique algo that blends so seamlessly into a mix if you want it to, or can be lush and full of character. Love it!
Great review. Looks tempting. But if you had to have one more VST reverb in your arsenal, which would be the choice?: Sound Toys Super Plate or this? (I know... I know they are different). But regarding value? Soundtoys is $79 and this is $99. Soundtoys is also offering 5 plates. They both seem of excellent quality.
If you can find a good one that can oversample 16x. With ultra sonic filtering. Then maybe... But can't render it. So it's going to affect your CPU. Maybe...
The hardware unit’s controller is pretty awesome, along with the motorized knobs thats as easy as it gets for ease of use / recall and it should be the standard for all new hardware units
Not to be that guy BUT could there be aliasing going on within the plugin? Perhaps why it doesn't sound as crisp and clear as the tube unit... Sorry not sorry.
Regarding the lack of info about parameters, Tegeler's email to me said: "(the development team) wanted people to use their ears instinctively, and therefore they made some of the parameters vague on purpose (such as the Input and Output knobs, for example)". Hmm ... imho. I must admit to liking the sound a lot though, lol.
the plugin sounds like a real room, the hardware sounds like a hardware. one thing that I always hear with this kind of comparison is that the slight imperfections in the two channels that exist on hardware make the ambience kind of "fall down" verticly. I am sorry for the nostalgists, but hardware reverb never sounds real to me. But of course the goal is not always to create a real sounding ambience. especially this trakc has that 90ies RnB vibe to it, which the hardware hall reproduced. I still prefer the plugin one. Why bring a new song sonicly back 30 years? lol
Even the RUclips compression can't make the difference disappear (as it's usually the case for me when you compare settings or differences). The plugin sounds a lot darker compared to the hardware. In general, this is just a difference in sound, but not in quality.
keep in mind the hardware unit has in and output transformers + tubes inside so there might be some coloration happening which is not included in the vst
The hardware has more vibe. It breaks up in way that adds depth while the plugin is more muddy and not as musical. One probably could get closer to the gear by adding some saturation
the software sounds NOT that rich in the release and fades shorter anyhow.. and sounds not that deep in the stereo width like RZM.. but it's pretty close anyway.. like to see the Novatron LtELJpLsFHk under your hands.. and what your thinkin' about..
The hardware unit sounds much more focused. Like really pleasant to listen to. The plugin sounds nowhere near the original unit. Maybe it has a sonic similarity but the focused sound is probably what differentiates the hardware from software.
Sounds GREAT! I have a dillema of using Lustrous Plates/Seventh Heaven/ValhallaVintageVerb/Lexicon/VertsuiteClassics/Fabfilter-R .. reaally strong dillema. Or buy this?

They both sound good but the hardware has the harmonics while the Plugin is so linear , and hardware really shows in the depth and you already have session recall what else could you possibly want :/ and i genuinely believe you get what you pay for in this situation, if you need a reverb that sounds like that on a low budget go for the vst, but it won’t start making your mixes have that reverb “depth” (which is totally fine) until you step into the analog world! Even my Mac M1 Pro 32 GB ram can’t run the big sky reverb, sounds dope, but just isn’t enough computing power to really take in all of these programs yet, the algorithms are pretty extreme, it’s like going from a basic Amp modeler to one that has extreme IR, they sound similar but the extremely good algorithms are what bring depth into these situations, and I’d love to see a reverb in the VST realm that doesn’t rely so heavily on IR !
I think the majority of tone difference we’re hearing is in the D to A and then A to D conversion. If you listen to the dry signal of the song, it sounds drastically difference in the comparisons because of running out of the computer and then back in.
Totally. That’s why I only use hardware fx with mix knobs on front panel. Trying to blend a dry DAW signal with a 100% wet hardware reverb always sounds so weird to me.
@@Whiteseastudio there definitely was some color difference between the plug-in and the hardware, but I could also hear a difference in 3D “air” if you will when the reverb was really low and it was mostly dry signal

Add the SPL tube sim or any other subtle (analog) distortion to the reverb path and its indistinguishable from the hardware.
