I've never been able to figure out the 'ripple' blankets. This is an amazing tutorial, I know it's not the traditional ripple pattern, but this has helped tremendously! And I've been crocheting for 20+ years!! Thank you!!!

For anyone having an issue lining up your rows, I added two extra stitches on my last block of 17 FSC. It solved the issue. I used a size ( J ) 6mm crochet hook. After that little tweak, the pattern matches the instructions and beautiful final product. Hope this helps!

Thank you for this adorable pattern. Years ago, when my babies were born, I did this pattern in Knitting....and it took so much longer to complete. First, you are super cute. :-) Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. I tried following another pattern, but it was not going well. My throw was looking kind of wonky. I love how you set up your pattern. I'm doing your regular afghan size and using Lion Brand Homespun yarn, which is bulky instead of super bulky. I've had this yarn for a little while and thought this pattern would be perfect for it. I started with 119 single crochets in order to make it a little bigger since my yarn is bulky. Hi Alexis. Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial. One of the biggest stumbling blocks for me (and yes, I do 'fess up to overthinking it on each project, lol) is when it comes to changing color at the end of a row! Everyone has their own twist on it - some choosing to crochet over the end of the last color, some preferring to sew the threads in later. I'm not really comfortable doing either! My question is could you make a short video on your preferred choice of hiding threads when you change colors? I am sure there will be many interested newbie crocheters, like myself, who will be very grateful to see how you deal with your loose ends. heather x

I tried doing the knitted version of this blanket but it was such slow going that I decided to try crocheting it and your video is perfect. I'm making it with 2000 yards, though, and I'm trying to figure out how many sets to do. I crochet kinda loosely. What are the dimensions of yours? Thanks so much for this vid!
+bohemia9 Sorry I'm slow in responding. I had the same experience with the knitted version so I had to try it in crochet. The baby blanket (persialou.com/2015/10/feather-and-fan-baby-blanket-free-crochet-pattern.html) is about 3'x4' Hope that helps! :)

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but my rows are not lining up! When I start the third row which adds more shells, it just doesn't line up. Help!

I just complete this project and the bottom of my blanket doesn't look like the ending row. I added two rows of SC at the end. Looks odd
I actually think this will be easier to do in crochet than in knitting
hi this is a fab pattern! I've been looking at for a few weeks and right this moment will be selecting my yarn and jumping right in! Could you tell me what method of colour change you used and how did you hide your ends, I'm planning on making two and one is for a baby and don't want stray ends posing a risk. Thank you 😊

Since the nature of this pattern causes it to draw up, as you pointed out in the tutorial, one can't go by the standard charts for how many chains to use for twin, full, queen, king, lap, etc blankets ... have you figured out how many chains/sc are needed for each size blankets for this pattern? Awesome pattern. Will be doing this one shortly. I'm doing the standard shell stitch right now, so a close cousin =)
Hi Barbara! I love the shell stitch too! :) I have not done a chart for each size of blanket since the yarn and hook used will drastically change things. What I recommend is working one repeat of the 17 stitch pattern for a few rows, and then measure that to help you determine how many repeats you will need for the size blanket you want. I hope that helps!
hey. I love this blanket and I am doing a multiple of 17 but when I get to the end doing that last 7 dc then the 5 dc in one. I only have enough to 5 dc and that's it. it don't end right.

I love this pattern and video, but my 3rd row is not matching up?? I noticed there are several other comments like this in the feed. Can you provide any guidance? I ripped it out twice and would like to avoid another repeat of ripping out. HELP!!

I did 204 chain then sc in each chain to begin and started pattern. All went well until the end of the the first row of pattern and after I still had 6 chains left. I think that I will try to create the FSC, as I have just noticed the video on that. UGH!!!
What am I doing worng? I have redone first and second row twice now and I keep missing 5 stitches.. I'm making the a big blanket with 255 stitches in total and after row two I'm missing 5 stitches... I love this pattern it is so nice and simple but right now it is making me crazy.. Please help me😩
I've had the same problem with patterns before. Just undo the slip stitch and pull out the extra stitches when you get to the end of the first row
I did 58, chained one and then flipped it to go back across. Then I started my pattern, I'm at the end and I have four spaces left. What did I do wrong?
Hi! You need to start with a multiple of 17. If you do four multiples of 17, you would start with 68. If you started with 58, that might be the problem. Does that help?

Will it matter much if I didn't end my first row with the 5 dbls? I ended with a skip 1 then dbl then skip 1 then dbl.

Just finished a baby blanket using this pattern... beware it really shrinks the width when you start working the fan... beautiful pattern though.
On the front loop sc repeat do I instead crochet in back loops only next then alternate?
If I want to increase can I just add to the number of stitches in the fan?
Dammit. Forgot that this contracts. I'll have to double width of Afghan to get the size I want.
Doesn't addiing the increase the stitch count for the next row above 17?

Hello! It does not get wider as you go. I'm not sure exactly how to turn it into a dress, but I'm sure it could be done!
just a quick ?...are there any adjustment need to be made with your pattern to do it with treble crochet on first row to double crochet on the return row?
I haven't tried that, but I think that should work. Let me know how it goes!

Hi! It will depend on the size yarn you are using and your hook. I would try doing a couple of rows of just one 17 stitch repeat. Then measure it, and use that to calculate how many repeats you need to make. Good luck! :)
Thanks so much your so easy to follow and I love that . All I ever new how to do was DC and single back and forth. now I can make something with a design to it. I watch alot of videos and either they go to fast or there not close enough to see what stitch there going into I hope to see more of your videos thanks for taking your time to teach us. so do I just chain multiple of 17 or 17 + ?...I don't want to do the single crochet foundation chain and I'm not sure if there is a + 1
I love this stitch. But I think I am doing something wrong. The front loop lines are on opposite sides of each color. When I redo it on the opposite side, it's still off. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
