Hi Elise, I have been watching you for a long time but I never normally comment. I’m just here to say that when I watched last week’s video I thought the bench was a genius idea. Because it’s in the corner, it means you have a quirky cosy eating space & then you’ve opened up the rest of the room, making the place seem much bigger. People are not as creative as you and can’t see that once painted, with cushions etc it’s going to look amazing. I have an old church pew at my dining table - it’s a bench but styled with cushions it looks so cool. People who feel the need to be rude are letting themselves down. They couldn’t achieve a tiny fraction of what you’re doing and deep down they know that. They probably don’t feel good about themselves or how their life is going. I think you’re amazing 😊❤️

I am almost 70 years old and have limited experience and knowledge regarding any kind of social media, so my frame of reference is admittedly uninformed. And, Elise, last week's video was the first one I've ever seen of yours, so I also have no idea how your home has evolved over time. As a newcomer and outsider, here's what I saw: a lovely, obviously incredibly talented, young woman who virtually "invited" people from all over the world to share her pride and excitement in creating a beautiful home that is an expression of her own, changing, unique personal taste. So imagine my confusion when I started reading the comments and saw many that could only be characterized as downright mean, not at all what I would call constructive criticism. That level of emotional investment in the decor of someone else's house is just mind-boggling to me. The way you addressed it today was extremely gracious and measured. I will look forward to future videos so I can see your vision come to life. Thanks for sharing!

The key words are: You bought a bench, and You are really happy. And that’s all that matters. Stop letting people who don’t even know you affect what you do. It’s your home not theirs so you can do with it whatever you want.
Don’t let negative people influence your style. Your home is your sanctuary and should be filled and designed with what you love and what makes you happy. Hell, you don’t even know if you would like the design choices of those negative commenters. To each their own… as long as you’re happy that is all that matters. You will never please everyone so don’t lose yourself trying. You are allowing us (the viewers) to enter your home… not to critic it.

I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion; it's a fundamental aspect of life. It's essential not to take offense when others have differing views. While not everyone may agree when we open our lives to the world, it's important to move forward without making every subscriber feel guilty because of a few dissenting comments. Being courteous is crucial, but when you open up your life to others, expect a variety of opinions to be shared. I like your channel and I'm always respectable. However keep making your home beautiful it's your home and just people sharing.

The danger with having a You Tube channel with room for people’s comments is that sadly,you will always get some negativity as viewers often base their opinions on their own personal taste rather than respect the fact that the decor in your home is your own choice and vision. Don’t feel disheartened as there are many,many more subscribers who appreciate your style, passion and creativity than those who can’t understand something out of the box.Personally, I love your individuality, your thrift pieces and your artistic flair. I guess people who know me would call me bohemian but I’m proud that I don’t follow the accepted or typical styles and you should be too. Can I just add that your garden is absolutely beautiful and with all the flowers in bloom , it’s a magical place! 💖🌸

people can also practice restraint when they feel the desire to comment something that it's unconstructive and rude in every way, as many of those comments were. yes people can have their opinions but elise can also have standards and voice that too. our sense of 'entitlement', our belief that our opinions always need to be shared, no matter how harsh is a toxic notion.

The paint on the bench already makes 1000x more sense to me. I think sometimes, it is hard to see the vision of the artist when all we can see is the raw materials.
Its your home do what you like. Try it, if you like it keep it if you dont you can change it. I find it interesting watching you developing your ideas.

Sadly, negative comments are part of the process when we post on line. However, keep your good spirits going, and do what YOU want with your home, your style, your life! I think the beigey-neutral color is perfect! The bench is such a massive piece, it's better to decorate around it -- rather than give it the spotlight.
Never doubt your design decisions. I learned that early on. I show a “friend” how I wanted to decorate my younger son’s bedroom, she told me it was hideous, so I didn’t do it. A few months later she showed me her son’s bedroom she just decorated…yep my ideas down to the window treatment. Do what you love…you will always be happy with it.

Your instincts are fantastic and you have an eye, just trust it and ignore anyone who doesn't see your vision yet. As a woman in her 70's who has lived in 5 different states, I can tell you one thing seems to remain the same. Negativity from people stems from either them being jealous or because they are unhappy they cannot stand to see happiness in others. Of course they could just be someone who thinks they know it all, lol. You are a gorgeous young woman who is talented in so many ways - your beautiful home and garden, your business and most of all your kind personality. I love tuning in to see what you're up to on the new episode. I am sure it's hard to read those comments but remember most of us tune in because we so enjoy whatever you do. Love from New York.

Elise, I think what you are doing in your dining area is so “you!” Taking a vintage piece and reworking it with creativity is what you do best. I love the colors in the tablecloth you have been using. I was surprised you went with beige but totally get your explanation. Very wise to make the color seasonal. The joy of real wood furniture is that it can be painted when you want colour and then stripped back if you want wood again. I have gone from painted furniture to unpainted through the years but have still been able to keep my favorite pieces.

Elise, I just wanted to commend you on the way you honestly acknowledge how you felt hurt by the very opinionated (over-bearing, judgmental and rude) comments, claiming your right to your own feelings, whatever they may be--(YES!) And then very firmly--but with your usual sensitivity and kindness--stated what you will and won't accept on your channel; drawing the line between suggestions that are constructive, helpful or light-hearted---and those harsh, complaining judgments that imply (by what logic!?) that you are 'wrong' for not doing something the way the complainer would want . . . in YOUR home, not their own! I really like your content. Don’t listen to small-minded people and their complaints about what color you should paint your furniture. You are the one who’s living with it, not them. I really love how you take an unexpected color or fabric and somehow just really make it work. When you mentioned your dining room table I was looking at your brick wall, and I thought hmmm, if you were going to paint the table why not look at your brick wall. You have so many wonderful and warm colors to choose from that are right there. But when it comes down to it, it will be the color that moves you and no one else. Not sure if someone has already mentioned it, but you may want to put a riser or caddy under your plant pot. Having the terracotta pot directly on the floor could damage your pretty wood floor. Love your style -- trust yourself. 💗
Howdy! I happened to mention last week that you can buy a beautiful cast iron caddy with wheels. Since the pot will be too heavy to carry over to where the water is, you will need to roll it over to wherever you will be watering it from. If it's outside, just be careful when you pass over the threshold from the door to the patio. Otherwise, it will topple over and you will have a big mess on your hands!
On the other hand,, I have several of these in my living room and I left the plants/trees in their original containers. I just lift out the pots and put them on the porch to be watered. Then I return them to my decorative pots when they are dry. Those are two different ways that you can handle this problem .
Beige is not a terrible idea! And I say this as a person who loves colors. You can add colors to match your mood/seasons using accessories like pillows and blankets (which you can keep stored in your handy bench storage)!

I remember watching a channel a few years ago...People left rude comments too. The creator replied to those rude comments by saying, "My home my rules." Your entire house is so beautifully decored, there is no reason not to trust your ideas or your process. The skylight was such a great idea, and the space decor is just this very idea being worked on. It takes time to finish a project. It's a joy to watch you turn an idea into something real.

Part of being on social media, unfortunately, includes people that offer opinions that differ from yours. I have found that because these opposing opinions are written, people lack the etiquette that is easier to adhere to when face to face. Also, because there is no viewing of countenance or hearing of tone or inflect, it can often be colored by previous negative or opposing statements... even if not how it was written! I know. I really respect the mature way you dealt with the negative/rude comments.
