@@kennethporst4359he wishes. That’s a very rare and very expensive block that unless you’ve got some deep-seated love for that motor and hate for your wallet there is not a whole lotta point in building, you can build a smaller or bigger motor (428 for example) and get the same power reliability and still afford to put fuel in the vehicle. The 427 is a beautiful motor but it belongs in the cars it belongs in or with people who just have enough money they can afford to throw it away

Not sure how it goes about replacing a 302 for a 460, but the idea sounds cool to me. If it’s simple (mainly with keeping the 5 speed), maybe it would be fun to try a heads/cam basic build and just see what it does. I know the goal is a more “race car” set up, so a 460 doesn’t suit that but for a fun street car it could be cool.

Larger carbs = more air = leaner AFRs. Remember you want velocity over volume. Size your carb properly and you’ll be very impressed with the results throughout the rpms vs oversizing your carb to where it’ll only pull good in high rpms.

    • @alfatasteless

The Mikuni was just a bit big, although it's the recommended carb for the 1250 kits everyone does. I was always fiddling with the Mikuni to get the bike to idle cold and then after it warmed up. At least it had the adjusters on thumb screws so you could do it without a screwdriver.

@@davidvaughn7778 lately the 1275 is the go to big bore. From what I can tell zippers ain't doing so hot and a veteran owned and ran company called hammer performance has stepped up. They have 90ci big bites now but you have to bore the cases. It's cheap and easy to do but requires the bottom end to come out and split so most settle for the 1275. Mine is a 883 but I have a 1200 conversion with 10:1 weisecos. I ported the heads and intake. Everything else is stock besides a velocity stack on the carb with no filter. Drilled jets and very short drag pipes pointing down at the ground. It ran a PB of 12:61 at 103mph in the 1/4 mile but the clutch was slipping hard in fifth. All in all I thought that was really good. I think the only reason it was as fast as it was is the 883 has 31 degrees of timing verses the 1200 only has 28.

I might give your bad luck a run for your money, I'm on my fourth 302 in my F100. The last two motors ate up mains at 200 mi. From talking to some other professionals in my area it seems like quality machine work is just next to impossible to come by these days. They think that they can't hire good labor so they have a bunch of unexperienced teenagers working in there doing jobs that traditionally the guys doing it had 20 years of experience... Nothing wrong with teenagers they often have very strong work ethics, but they require apprenticeships or formal training to get to the point what where they can deliver consistent results. This leads to a lot of engine failures due to shotty machine work. If this one doesn't hold together I'm going to go the crate motor out. I think we are living in a crate motor era from here on out if im being honest. As much as I've always loved building my own engines and small block Ford specifically, I also like being able to drive my truck which has been very difficult recently with the motors blown up... Good luck man!
