- FIRST DRIVE: The C8 Z06 is here and Chevrolet is ready for the competition. This Corvette competes directly with Porsche 911 GT3, Ferrari F8 Tributo, Lamborghini Huracan, Mercedes AMG GT R and Audi R8. Under the engine cover is a 5.5L V8 that produces 670HP & is mated to an 8-speed DCT. On the outside you will find extra aero, wider stance and larger air intakes. For me there’s no car in the world right now that gives you this much performance for the price than the C8 Corvette. The Z06 is even better.

Wow ! GM really meant business with this Z06. Especially the engine is unbelievable. I've owned Corvettes but this is a whole other level.
I have a C7 and love it, but WOW! The sound alone of this Z06 is amazing. They FINALLY added sound to the factory exhaust instead of having to spend extra money to get a sound car people like!! Great review and I loved watching you on the track!!

Well that sound is mostly coming from the flat plane crank V8, but i agree this sounds a lot better then the standard C8.

When you look to the recent past (in terms of vette models) it's just mind-blowing that we are even talking about, let alone seeing and hearing, a mid-engine, flat-plane crankshaft'd - American exotic car! Love it!

Great review. So, I happened to surprise my wife with a 2022 C8 LT2 with the Z51 package. We both had corvettes when we first met in our twenties. So, it was a sentimental purchase.
I've been a car enthusiast since I was a teen. Had muscle cars, then bought my first vette 1962 at 21. It was semi customized, and it was and still is beautiful. It was a great feel to own, just not a great drive. but a head turner!
So, she took delivery of the C8 in March of 2022. She now has 11k miles on it (two long road trips attributed to half that mileage). She has no hesitation pushing the envelope with it. We do track it locally and even get it on a drag strip with some of the muscle cars. I am not a typical collector as we own them to use and really enjoy them.
We've had several other corvettes, and the C8 is impressive as its unlike any of the previous generations. The mid engine dual 8 speed clutch and much more chevy implemented changed the game for the corvette.
Now it's a far cry from the two Ferrari's. A 2020 F8 Tributo & 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB! You're also talking about a hugh sticker price difference.
We have 7 adult children and our 5th grandchild due soon, but there is still room for another car. I always wanted a Z06, so I have one on order, but a 2023 delivery is questionable. The vettes are just in my blood, but lean towards the Italian super cars.

I was t a big fan of the c8 when first rumored and after the release of the sting ray. After seeing it in person quite a few times and able to get behind the wheel of one, i gotta say corvette you really did your thing. What a machine and the engineering behind this is incredible!! My boy just got the zo6 and i cant wait to go for a ride in that beast!! Amazing jod Corvette!!

On the racetrack, the LT6 V-8 in the Corvette Z06 is a monster. Around town on the street, it is meek like a lamb. Incredible engineering by Chevrolet, GM Powertrain, and the GM Performance Team.

At 6’5” I couldn’t get myself to fit into a C8 like I could with the C5/6. And I tried lol.
The C7 and C8 are much smaller inside when compared to the C5 and C6 so it's not a suprise you can't fit in them.

I just recently bought a C6 Z51 3LT corvette and well after having it for a month now I can honestly say that GM made me feel like I was driving in a video game... I can only imagine what the C8 Z06 is like 👍... Having all the modes listed with "Power Bars" only makes the future that more exciting for the corvette

I bought a new Z06 in 2007. My insurance on that car was actually less than the insurance on my 2003 Cobra😮
Nice review Joe! GM has built an incredible machine here! At MSRP, it is a steal compared to other vehicles it competes with. No doubt the dealer mark ups will put this one out of reach for the majority of people.

GM Marketing failed to manage pricing expectations with the ZO6, letting people assume the increase over the base car would be similar to past ZO6 models, which didn't have an all-new engine like this new one.

Yeah, this is the real deal! Much better looking than the somewhat awkward regular C8, but that engine and other performance goodies makes this a must have! A lotta car for the money. Really dig that color spec too! Nice job GM!
I'm in love with this car! This exact spec. What I wouldn't give ti get behind the wheel of it! That's a proper super car. I think this is the most beautiful Corvette to date, save the models from the 60s of course. That silver with blue interior really does it for me!

To see the engine all you have to do is put the back into service mode. I just bought the 2023 C8 Convertible. In service mode you can see the engine. I did add a see threw engine compartment cover👍

Great video Joe!!!! Really like the car but I am losing the attraction to it unfortunately. Got on the ZO6 list a year before the reveal which was 26 Oct 2021 and I still have to wait 2-3 more years. Thinking of getting the Mustang Dark Horse then trading it in for the Z in late 2024 or early 2025. The car is hampered by its weight just like the Mustang GT 500. I will see how the first year or two goes with the ZO6.
The best two attributes are its looks and sound. How do you like it compared to your GT350R??? 😮
Lori always does an amazing job filming. I noticed that your speed improved as you got used to the blind curves and spots. Good work Joe! The interior is very impressive also. The option for the interior carbon fiber is $5K. I still think the base price at 106,395 is too high. That price doesn’t include the gas guzzler tax of ~~$2600 dollars. Plus you pay sales tax on top of the gas guzzler tax cost!!!

@@dannyd7714 Rubbish. Like any other manufacturer of the the time, they had other vehicles for comparison. There is not one interchangeable part on the C8 that will fit a 458. Vehicles are purchased by most every motor manufacturer on the planet for performance comparisons. Remember the C8 has been in development for about 12 years. In this case then the C8 outclasses the 458 easily.

First time I've ever watched this channel... I set the speed to 1.5x during the 'sales pitch' part and then completely forgot it was still sped up when I started watching him hit the track. Imagine my incredulousness at watching a car go around the track 50% faster than normal while thinking it was normal speed... Think I'm spoiled now.
Recently, Texas dealership Covert Chevrolet listed a 2023 Chevrolet Z06 for sale with a $100,000 dealer markup. With options, that brought the price of the car up to an eye-wateringly high $241,995. On a car that starts at $106,395.
I don't care what anyone says this Chevy Corvettes interior is the most fly sportiest and clever interiors in the Auto world. If you ever actually seen one in person its freaking gorgeous inside. Props to GMC they nailed the Chevy Corvette C8 Z06!!!!

General Motors has many resources and have been manufacturing vehicles for a very long time.
The first thing we should consider is the Corvette Z06s competitors, namely exotic cars running mid - high 10 quarter miles, mid to high 2s 0-60 runs, and the ability to be taken to the track and abused, all while offering potential daily drivability. Unlike many of the Z06s competitors the corvette falls short in terms of top end speed, especially if the manufacturers claimed top speed is all she can do 195mph/189 for the Z07 equipped Z06. For instance, not a single of the exotics running mid 10s have a top speed under 200mph. Some would argue that top speed does not matter, but that would be like me stating that the car doesn't need to have a 2.6s 0-60 time either. When talking competition, we need to address all performance areas.
In terms of acceleration, GM used a 5.56 final drive axle ratio, so the Z06 accelerates hard off the line, but its top end acceleration begins to decline, but it's still fast. I think GM wanted this car to accelerate hard and was not as concerned with top end speed.
I think that since this is the same engine used in the C6.R, introduced in 2010, it has been made long enough by GM to be revised to be reliable, as well as, remarkably, emissions compliant. I for one, think it is worth the money. It is domestic, it has an engine that is naturally aspirated, and its performance numbers rival that of $200k+ exotics. The legacy of the Covette also make it worth the price. Rati is stating "AT LEAST MSRP" because GM is not preventing dealership markups. $127k-$167k is the general price range, according to the always reliable Car and Driver magazine/online reviewers. The $167K Z07 package is for the dude who wants to track OR just have the top of the line model. Performance is not any different, so I say any trim level is acceptable! FORD & DODGE do not currently have anything outside the pony-car lineups to compete with this supercar. Fords Shelby Gt500 CFTB is the ONLY american car to potentially compete against this car's lap potentials, but considering this car's balance I don't think the GT500 can top it!
Not a big GM fan, but I do commemorate their ingenuity and innovativeness. If I were to sum this car up, I would say it is a street legal Corvette .R model, like what Ford did with the GT, only affordable and mass produced.
I remember back in the late 60's my dad had to get his chevelle serviced and we were in the dealer service center and looking at all those new chevys with 307, 327, 350, 427, 454 under their hoods. Now it cost crazy money to get one.🤭
I’ll stay with my 2015 PRHT Miata! Vette has no manual tranny, but too many gadgets! The beauty of a Miata is that one can have gobs of fun while staying within the speed limit.
FYI, when I was 13, I had the thrill of riding in a white over navy blue split window! I was really impressed by the little sign on the passenger dash: “At speeds over 140 mph keep all arms and legs inside the vehicle.”

considering it doesn't go for msrp and goes for prices 190k+ the entire idea of the C8 was it's supposed to be cheap performance, but considering the retail price of those it's competing not only with cars that are nice, but the highest price i've seen for the Z06 was 270K that's 448/458 money.

It really comes down to what you bought it for - for track use, yes the Z06 or ZR1 when it arrives will be faster than the Stingray, but for a daily driver who enjoys the spirit of the car, the C8 is more than enough and way more affordable. Where you going to drive the race versions off 5e track at 165 plus and not be a hazard waiting to be arrested and your car impounded…I have been on the track and streets, and I’m very happy with my Stingray convertible as a daily driver. it’s a lot of fun and I got a loaded 3LT for 85K IN 2020. No reason to spend double for a faster version…..just sayin
