Cricket Explained You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that’s in the side that’s in the field goes out and when he’s out comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. When they are all out, the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out. Sometimes there are men still in and not out. There are men called umpires who stay out all the time, and they decide when the men who are in are out. Depending on the weather and the light, the umpires can also send everybody in, no matter whether they’re in or out. When both sides have been in and all the men are out (including those who are not out), then the game is finished. Makes perfect sense to me.
The Video is badly worded, playing for a day does not mean 24 hours, start at 11 am and finish around 6 pm for example would be a day's play in a Test Cricket match. There are two breaks during the day.
Yeah a day may be about 5 hours actual game time. All the stop starting and brakes they have. A game of baseball can get up to 4 hours when you have extra innings.
They stop for lunch, afternoon tea (no joke thats what its still called) and play (5 day cricket) until it get dark or as it is known "bad light stops play". 20 overs = 6 balls per over = 120 bowled balls = 1 innings. Each team gets 1 innings. 50 overs = 300 bowled balls = 1 innings. Test cricket = unlimited overs (play till all the batters are out, scores of 700, 800 or more can happen)
For 20/20 Cricket (called T20 in most cases) Each term gets 20 0vers, so it's a 40 over game in total) Each over has 6 legal balls. This video didn't cover it but there are a few ways to bowl what is deemed to be an illegal bowl (we call them deliveries) I won't go into those lol, it's already complicated enough lol. So, 6 legal ball per over x 20 overs = 120 balls a batting team has to score from in their innings in a T20 game. If a fielding (bowling) team get all 10 players out within those 120 balls, then the innings is finished and then the team that was bowling has their turn to bad and it's then up to them to chase down the number of runs scored by the team that was batting first within the 120 legal ball limit. One Day Cricket has 50 overs per team, so you each have 300 legal balls to score off, and while T20 Cricket is all about smashing as many runs as possible as quickly as possible,. One Dat Cricket has more strategy involved. It's hard to bowl a good Cricket team out inside 20 overs, can be done but the other team has to play really badly to do it. If you try to play at the same rapid scoring rate in a One Day Cricket Game as you do in a T20, then you give the other team a HUGE chance at winning because you will be taking too many risks and burning two many wickets to get through those entire 320 balls and will be bowled out early and not get your full 320 balls, which then allows the team batting second to be far more calculating in how they chase down your score within their 320 balls. Test Cricket, well ...... that's a very different animal altogether lol. That's one to learn far more about after you get the other two down lol. My advice, if you want to watch a game, start with 20/20, it's full of excitement, the other two forms are far more designed for long term Cricket fans, the true tragics of the game, like myself lol BTW, Cricket teams have 11 players per side, all forms and you need to get 10 out to dismiss a team completely. When a batsman is out, he or she is then replaced on the field by the next batsman and this process continues until the bowling team has 10 wickets or the over-limit is reached, It's 11 players but only 10 wickets because you need to have two batsmen playing at a time, therefor the last man standing is retired when the 10th player is out. If you have the ability to stream Cricket, you might want to check out the Big Bash, which is the 20/20 Cricket comp in Australia which actually starts TODAY lol. So if you can watch, you will be able to catch LIVE games from today.
This is a great explanation of the three formats, and I agree the best place to start would be T20. If you can check out a full game (should be available on Willow in the US) or even highlights that will definitely help learning about Cricket. BBL starts today and runs until the final on Feb 6th.
I'll disagree that it is near impossible to bowl a good team out in T20... The number of risks the batters (formerly known as batsmen) take, combined with the prevalence of pace bowlers ranging from mediocre to good, makes it likely that a wicket could fall any minute, assuming the bowlers can actually get their deliveries on target...
In cricket, bowlers unlike pitchers are not allowed to bend their elbows more than 15 degrees. So the bowlers usually have a run up before bowling (Not throwing), so that they can use that momentum to deliver the ball. It's like javelin throws. The elbow ll be straight when they bowl. There are three type of bowlers in cricket. FAST BOWLERS - who bowls on average 85 mph to 100 mph. Medium pacers or swing bowlers who bowl from 75 mph to 85mph, so that they can make the ball move in the air or make the ball deviate after it pitched. There is spin bowlers who uses spin or puts revolution in the ball so that the ball turns abruptly right or left after pitching. They bowl from 50 mph to 65 mph. Also in cricket the bowlers are allowed to aim and bowl at the batsman. Thats y the heavy protective equipments for batsman in cricket. The ball bowled at batsman's chest, neck or head is called bouncers. This ball is used to indimidate batsman and also to make them play akwardly and get them out by catching them when they didn't hit it properly. Cricket balls are harder than baseball. There are incidents of broken ribs, fingers, toes and jaws. People get concussions. Unfortunately few people have died from it too. So they had restricted this ball to 1 or 2 per over. Also top batsmans can counter this ball by playing cricketing shots like hook, pull and uppercut or evading or ducking. This video is about Australian fast bowlers bowling indimidating bouncers to the English batsman. ruclips.net/video/kQ4lsCzKvm8/видео.html

It's no coincidence that in AFL kicking the ball through the centre goalposts scores 6 points and in cricket hitting the ball over the boundary is worth 6 runs. AFL began as a way to keep fit in winter, cricket's "off-season", that's why in AFL if you miss the goalposts you still get 1 point if it's inside the point posts - it's equivalent to scoring 1 run in cricket.
Nearly got it but not quite. I sat down with an American guy on holiday and tried to explain cricket to him. (He did ask). He was quite drunk before we got to fielding positions for different modes of the game. 😂
Imagine being an Australian kid in pre-internet times when there was only 3 commercial broadcast TV channels and one of them abandons all programming to broadcast 3 days of cricket, and the other two channels are broadcasting rugby league and rugby union and Aussie Rules, and you only like basketball, sitcoms and movies.
That sounds brutal! lol They did that in the US on Saturdays for college football growing up. Two of the three stations would have amateur athletes playing games that didn't matter, from places you never heard of.. all... day... long.
I am from England, so that is naturally my team. England have a big rivalry with Australia, and regularly play a seties of 5-day test matches for a trophy cslled "The Ashes". Each day, after 2 hours, they stop for lunch. Snd at 3.40 in the afternoon, they stop for tea. And play finishes around 6-7pm, and they come back the following morning. When you take a picnic and dtink the beer, it can get quite lively in the crowd. There is a test match series taking place right now in Australia. India, another top team are their opponents. Check it out on ESPNCricinfo.
The test format will be boring for people who have just warmed up to the sport. But I assure you when you know the rules it's a fun game to watch. And if you play the sport I feel that would be better for understanding the game
Your description of cricket overs and innings at about the 7 and a half minute mark was hilarious. As you said at the start, you might want to watch again.
I can't understand why Americans reacting to cricket keep saying points when they have baseball and they score runs in baseball not points t20 games each team faces 120 balls , one day games each team faces 300 balls if they loose all 10 batsmen before all balls are bowled that teams innings is over Lowest score in cricket , New Zealand 1955 all ten batsmen out for 26 , last saturday Australia bowled India out for 36 here in Australia
Batting in pairs often confuses Americans, although you seemed to understand fine. The best way to explain it is: there are two 'bases', which start the match loaded. When 10 of the 11 batsmen are out, there's only one batsman left, and that means the team's innings is at an end. Test cricket is the oldest and most prestigious form of cricket and is played between two nations which have been granted 'Test status'. That's the form that goes for up to 5 days. The matches can often end in a draw. Each day is broken into three 2-hour 'sessions' (a morning session, then a 30 min lunch break; an afternoon session, then a 20 min 'tea break'; and the final 2-hour session). The first and oldest Test series is between Australia and England, called The Ashes, dating basically from 1877. It's the second oldest international sporting competition, second only to the America's Cup.
Just to clarify. Baseball game last just short of 3 hours. Football about 3-3 1/2 hours. basketball about 2-2 1/2 hours. All will go longer than this if there is overtime. In the T20 version of cricket it lasts about 3 hours but there is usually a short break , about 5-10 minutes between each team's innings. Likewise with the One Day format. Also there are brief refreshment breaks at about one hour intervals. In the 3-5 Day game, they play for about 7 hours a day, with a break for lunch and a shorter one for Tea. Of all the formats this one is the least desirable by modern players/ spectators partly because the other formats (especially T20) has a larger infusion of money for players and also because after 5 days there can often be a no result or draw. In the other formats if scores are tied there is usually a brief play-off but that does not occur too often.
typical cricket matches especially One Day games, and test matches do have 3 sessions per day, morning, early afternoon, late afternoon/evening including breaks for lunch, and "tea" or "supper"
T20 is basically a "fete match!" Spectators go to enjoy the pace of the match and party! One Day and Test Matches are more endurance tests and strategy is important. West Indies used to be good back when Brian Lara and Courtney Walsh were playing but nowadays they seem to be lacking. Don't get me wrong, Chris Gayle and Bravo may be good but to me they aren't as serious and party too much.
TV coverage makes the wicket seem short but it’s actually 22 yards long: cricket can’t be played even in light rain because it affects the flight of the ball too much giving the bowlers an advantage. The ball is rock hard which is why the batsman wear helmets and pads. A test match (between two COUNTRIES) can still end in a draw after five days ! After football( soccer) cricket is the second most watched sport in the world and over 100 countries play it although only 10 at the highest level and in the next five years there are huge plans to make cricket popular in the US too !
In cricket terms, "day" means around 7 to 8 hours with 1 hour of breaks during that day (usually game starts at 11am and ends at 6pm each day). Each day at the close of play the game is frozen and resumes from that point at the start of the next day's play. It's just like a baseball team playing 5 double headers in 5 days in terms of how long a game takes. A one day game is pretty much about 3 hours allotted for each team to bat (unless they are all out before that). Game might start at 11am and end around 4 or 5 pm). A T20 match is pretty much limited to each team getting 1 1/2 hours of batting time each, so it's on par with the average MLB game in terms of time a game takes to complete.
basically, t20 (20 overs) is 120 legal bowls, its not that many tbh test cricket (5 days) is the most traditional version of cricket but its great for australians because its played in the summer holidays so we put it up on the big screen watch all day and have a few beers and get excited when a batsman gets 100 runs or your team bowling smashes the batsman to bits.. alot of defensive shots in test cricket but its such a relaxing 5 days.
PS. not all 5 day games go for 5 days, its just until both teams have batted twice so it could even be 3 days (not very often) One day games is just one innings and the game could be over in a matter of 3 hours the same as t20 games but is generally played slower and more tactical than t20. t20 games are so action packed because the batting teams try to generally smash everything and get a high score but it increases the chance of them getting out so its a really faster paced game.
I might be wrong, but I believe the longest Test Match was South Africa vs. England, in Durban 1939. After 9 days it was called a draw. I have heard stories about an Ashes test, ( Australia vs. England) that lasted 12 days and was only ended because the England side needed to catch the boat home, in the earl 1920's I think. Could be a myth.
India where recently bowled out for about 30 in test cricket which is extremely poor but a good score would be to bat for 2 days and get about 600-700 runs and declare in test cricket if you want to bat your have to get the other team out first as there isn’t a limit to how many overs a team can bat for
You should watch highlights of Tests to get into it. The Ashes is probably the most exciting, usually a test doesn't last 5 whole days you are probably saying 3 or 4 more likely only if The 1st Innings last a long time then you might have a all 5 days used
Usually people don't binge watch a 5 day test cricket match. Most people will go out and watch it for the day and hang out with some friends but usually don't sit and stare for the whole day for go every day. Test cricket and sometimes One Day cricket are the formats people leave on during the day in the background while they do their chores around the house or having a lunch or dinner with family/friends, sure you might sit down in front of the TV for a few minutes to catch-up but people don't sit and stare at the screen because it can go for so long.
Do they have blowouts where you know who's going to win early on and networks have to televise four more days of it anyway? Another question: If one team is terrible, does that mean there's a week of play nobody is interested in?
@@MrKeychange No, the test is over when there is a clear winner regardless of how many day's play are left. The test ends in a draw when the team batting in the fourth innings hasn't scored enough runs to win but is still in at the end of play on the fifth day. This is why tactics in test cricket is so important - nobody wants it to end in a draw.
The example shown for hit wicket is wrong. You are out hit wicket if you knock the bails off the wicket you are defending with your bat or any part of your body or clothing including your helmet falling on the wicket. The example shown where the batsman hits the ball into the other wicket is only an out if it touches a fielder before it hits the wicket and the batsman at that end is out of his crease. It is recorded as run out.
The best way to understand the game is to actually watch a game in real time with someone who knows the rules. It's a lot simpler than the video makes out. Yes--you do get up every day for 5 days to play/watch a test match.
I think you doubled the amount of balls in an over, as you included the second bowler from the other end. T20 - 20 overs of 6 (legal) balls per innings, each team gets 1 innings. That's 240 balls, plus any illegal bowls on top. T20 tends to be more cavalier. If you have only 5 overs left (30 balls), but still have top batsmen not having played (generally the best batsmen go first), then those at the crease will likely swing for the boundary to get 4 or 6 points. They know if they're knocked out they have quality batsmen waiting to do the same and potentially get a higher score, with calculated risk. Test cricket, especially international games, big fans will often book the week off work to go watch. Picnics, beers, sun cream etc in hand. As it's an unlimited "keep going till you're out" style game, then the first order of the day is to defend the wicket, to stay on the pitch as long as possible, this makes it a lot more tactical than the crash, bang, whallop of the limited over games.
Cricket is also the 2nd most popular sport in the world after football Cricket have nearly So that's why america is trying to expand cricket popularity and developing stadiums
T20 is the newest form of cricket but Test cricket (the one that last 5 days) will always remain the best format! You should defo check out some highlights of the Ashes Test (Test cricket btwn Australia vs England or even the recent Australia vs India test played this month!). This cricket video was good, but not that good at explaining the role of bowlers, who have just an important part as the batsmen (and are more interesting to watch too!) Cricket might seem confusing but its sooo satisfying - imagine the strategy and mind games involved to play over 5 days, its the ultimate test of strength, stamina and mental resilience! Hoping you will react to some cricket highlight vids!
Um No. An innings is finished when either 10 batsman get out or in the case of limited overs cricket the number of overs is bowled. In test cricket there are 2 innings each side, and in one day cricket or T20 one innings.
,, 6 balls makes an Over,, then there is a new bowler for another over, and all the other bowlers too,, until the batsman is Out,, then there is a new batsman,, once the designated overs have been taken or ten bowlers have been up,, that's one inning ! ,, I think 🤔‼️🏏🏃 Howzat ?!! 😏
5 day cricket, its no different than a golf tournament, those guys play 6hrs 4 days in a row and no one freaks out. Overs and format is confusing , think 6 pitches per set ( called an 'over') T20 cricket each team gets 20x6 pitches to score as much as possible, one day cricket (50 overs ) each team gets (50x6 ) 300 pitches to score as much as possible. First batting team sets the score, then the other team has to chase that score within 300 pitches to win. The chase down makes cricket so unique and exiting.
But there are teams in cricket, no? Wouldn't it be more like a golf match between two people that lasted days? Obviously cricket has a roster of players, but it's one vs one in terms of a team, yes?
MusicalPancakes the golf world has a thing called the Ryder cup where its teams of 12 americans v 12 europeans and the scores are cumulatively added up over the 4 days and a team wins
England are well worth watching, I know most people will say Indian cricket is better (but given that there are over a billion people there, that's understandable), but England have been pretty damn awesome for the past 15 years. For more nostalgic purposes, the West Indies teams of the late 80's and early 90's were out of this world.
Why is it so difficult for Americans to understand a 5 day match..It is like watching 5 different baseball games on each day..Obviously it is for cricket lovers who dont mind spending 5 days watching a cricket match..
An American could never grasp test cricket LOL 😂 but personally a think an American would love to go to a test match because it’s basically a giant piss up
6 runs isnt the most runs, you can run infinite times legend has it at lord's in England home of cricket it landed in a tree that's was of the field and they just kept running
If u want to watch a tv series about cricket there’s actually one on Amazon prime video and it follows the Australian cricket team after their huge cheating scandal it’s really good you’ll learn some player’s names and who the big teams r and also some more about cricket so I hope u see this
You really mangled the overs vs innings. An over = 6 legal balls bowled at the batsman. After which, another bowler bowls 6 balls from the other side. this is different to an innings. An innings = either the time it takes for 10 batsmen to be dismissed OR the time it takes to bowl the agreed number of overs. So in T20 cricket this would be 20 overs. Simple
Nobody watches all 5 days mate we watch a few hours out of the first and last day usually and highlights of the other days. OFC some people watch every ball but this is not the normal way people watch cricket.
This isn't the best explanation video. The clip chosen for " hit wicket" was actually a "run out" and the narrator calling the "ends" " sides" doesn't help.
@@MrKeychange interesting. It’s definitely simpler. I like the idea of taking five days to genuinely defeat your opponent though. Plenty of strategy, momentum swings, individual achievements etc involved. It’s exciting to see a batsman save an innings with a century for example.

4-dimensional chess.
Your description of cricket overs and innings at about the 7 and a half minute mark was hilarious. As you said at the start, you might want to watch again.
I can't understand why Americans reacting to cricket keep saying points when they have baseball and they score runs in baseball not points
t20 games each team faces 120 balls , one day games each team faces 300 balls if they loose all 10 batsmen before all balls are bowled that teams innings is over
Lowest score in cricket , New Zealand 1955 all ten batsmen out for 26 , last saturday Australia bowled India out for 36 here in Australia
Once u r used to cricket u will come to enjoy even 5 days test cricket
Real cricket is test match's played till until all hands loose, test match's actually enhance the performance of any cricketer
To be fair in test cricket it's just a chance to sit in the sun with your mates and get drunk
Test Match cricket is the only real form of cricket. Everything else is just hype. By the way, they are the LAWS of cricket, not 'rules'.
After football( soccer) cricket is the second most watched sport in the world and over 100 countries play it although only 10 at the highest level and in the next five years there are huge plans to make cricket popular in the US too !
haha when you reacted to ODI i knew test cricket was going to blow your mind.
The only sport that stops for lunch & tea - very English.....
5 day cricket is mint, especially if the weather is good, generally most of the fans will be 3 sheets to wind
A T20 match is pretty much limited to each team getting 1 1/2 hours of batting time each, so it's on par with the average MLB game in terms of time a game takes to complete.
basically, t20 (20 overs) is 120 legal bowls, its not that many tbh
test cricket (5 days) is the most traditional version of cricket but its great for australians because its played in the summer holidays so we put it up on the big screen watch all day and have a few beers and get excited when a batsman gets 100 runs or your team bowling smashes the batsman to bits.. alot of defensive shots in test cricket but its such a relaxing 5 days.
PS. not all 5 day games go for 5 days, its just until both teams have batted twice so it could even be 3 days (not very often)
One day games is just one innings and the game could be over in a matter of 3 hours the same as t20 games but is generally played slower and more tactical than t20.
t20 games are so action packed because the batting teams try to generally smash everything and get a high score but it increases the chance of them getting out so its a really faster paced game.
No. At 7:15
T20i is 20 overs which means 6 balls per over = 1 inning
Each team bats
ODI (one day international)
50 overs , 6 balls per over =1 inning
I might be wrong, but I believe the longest Test Match was South Africa vs. England, in Durban 1939. After 9 days it was called a draw. I have heard stories about an Ashes test, ( Australia vs. England) that lasted 12 days and was only ended because the England side needed to catch the boat home, in the earl 1920's I think. Could be a myth.
India where recently bowled out for about 30 in test cricket which is extremely poor but a good score would be to bat for 2 days and get about 600-700 runs and declare in test cricket if you want to bat your have to get the other team out first as there isn’t a limit to how many overs a team can bat for
when he says a day he really means about 6 hours, sometimes less, he dosen't mean 24 hours.
Not six its about 12 hrs .6 hrs for 1 team
@@shikarigaming6118 bollocks, a 50 over game takes about 6 to 7 hours,
@Tiny Boy depends on how badly one team plays, it could be over in a lot less time,
You should watch highlights of Tests to get into it. The Ashes is probably the most exciting, usually a test doesn't last 5 whole days you are probably saying 3 or 4 more likely only if The 1st Innings last a long time then you might have a all 5 days used
It is a game of will and attrition, true Test of character, strategy and skill.
In other words "score more than the others"
@@Jaygraterthanyou Not always, may be in kids cricket!
America was good at cricket in the 1860s-1870s. In particular Philadelphia produced very good players against the touring English team of 1872.
In test cricket it's usual to get through 90 overs a day. So 450 in a full test match.
@@MrKeychange
No, the test is over when there is a clear winner regardless of how many day's play are left.
My father was a Hit Wicket... on his mother's side. That makes me a quarter wicket.
The best way to understand the game is to actually watch a game in real time with someone who knows the rules. It's a lot simpler than the video makes out. Yes--you do get up every day for 5 days to play/watch a test match.
It's about the only sport where you play as an individual and as part of a team at the same time.
Test matches are like chess ... with cake.
It's not growing it's actually there from around 200 year's , only you didn't know about.🙄
Look up a series called body line it will explain the tactics and is entertaining as well
I think you doubled the amount of balls in an over, as you included the second bowler from the other end.
Crash, bang, wallop... Why have I never heard T20 referred to as such before? Especially when it is such a fitting description!
An innings is when one team finishes batting, not when both team finish, there are two innings in a game (one day and t20).
Cricket is also the 2nd most popular sport in the world after football
Cricket have nearly
So that's why america is trying to expand cricket popularity and developing stadiums
An innings is when all the batsmen are out. Not just two.
React to explain cricket by Netflix u will understand plzz
Only test matches (5days) and 1st class matches (3 or 4 days) for me. The rest is boring.
T20 Cricket - 03 Hours
Oneday Cricket - 09/10 Hours
Test Cricket - 05 Days ( One day Playing "07 hours - 90 Overs" × 5 Days)
A 5 day game! Think of it as a baseball series played over 4 or 5 games.
its not a straight day. it is usually between 6-8 hours
Netflix also explained cricket review that
,, 6 balls makes an Over,, then there is a new bowler for another over, and all the other bowlers too,, until the batsman is Out,, then there is a new batsman,, once the designated overs have been taken or ten bowlers have been up,, that's one inning ! ,, I think 🤔‼️🏏🏃 Howzat ?!! 😏
Test cricket isn’t unlimited overs. It’s limited to 90 overs a day.

Watch an IPL game as a starter :)...
Test and One Day cricket matches show the ability of the athletes... Its a test of the body...
Simple
Need to have a quick Reflux
