If you wanna watch a live match you can join folks from 'Cricket For Americans'. They have been following the game since a while so they understand the game now so watching a game with someone who understands and explain you in baseball terms will be easy to understand. They stream live matches on their youtube channel quite frequently as cricket matches happen round the year.

There are 3 different types of matches in cricket. In very general terms they are:
Twenty20 Internationals - Lasts 20 overs for each team. Lasts a few hours
One-Day Internationals - Lasts one day.
Test matches - Lasts 5 days
If you want to get into it, have a look at Best Wickets, Best Catches, Best Spin Bowls (Shane Warne - the king of spin), Best Pace Bowls.
Sounds like you might enjoy Australian Rules Football as well. Definitely fast paced and action packed.

There are two formats of Cricket, there is First Class/Test matches and Limited Overs matches. FIRST Class/Test matches are played up to 5 days, where each team will bat and field twice for 4 Innings. Limited Overs matches have 2 main forms, ODI(One Day International) matches are played in a day, where each team Bats upto 50 Overs and Bowls upto 50 Overs; then there is T20(20/20) matches are played around 3 hours, where each team bats and bowls upto 20 Overs.

It's like the bowler or the pitcher( called in baseball) tries to hit the stumps or wickets and the batter protects it and deflects the ball.. I think that's the gist of it 😅

There is 3 Formats in Cricket 🏏 :
    • TEST Cricket
    • One Day International (ODI)
    • Twenty20 (T20)
Test Cricket is the oldest form of cricket, introduced way before Soccer ⚽ & played all over USA aswell. From 1702 to 1860's before baseball ever came into existence, So test cricket has 2 Innings per side played inside 5 days of Play time ( 8 hours with 2 intervals per day) or 90 overs per day whichever norm complete 1st also a match can be finish before 5 days.
    2. ODI cricket as the name known as One Day International Format it has a Cap of 50 overs per side (300 balls per side) with 1 innings each & the time length is Arround 7 hours with 1 interval as an innings change break.
    3. Twenty20 Cricket or known as T20 in short is the most shortest format of the Game , It has a Cap of 20 overs (120 balls per side) with 1 innings each & it had a Match time of 3 hours.

So you think that the oldest form of cricket was a national team playing against another national team? Does that really sound very likely? Do you not think it more likely that one village played against the next village?

Baseball originated in Britain played typically by ladies and children. Cricket is much more dangerous and can result in serious injury when the ball hits someone. It is heavier and harder than a baseball

He missed out one important thing. It's 4 runs if the ball is hit over the boundary if it bounces first. It's 6 if it goes straight over. 4 of it hits the ground first, it wasn't seen here, but it's an important rule. Also LBW, you can be out if the ball hits a batsman's legs and the ball was going to hit the wicket and his legs stopped the ball, that's known as LBW. Leg Before Wicket. Other than that, that's all the basic rules of the game

Cricket started as a 5 day game and because of peoples impatience for more action they developed a 50 over game each team gets to face 50x6 balls . This game was over in one day or over day into. Night. The masses became more impatient for more action . Now it has evolved to what we call 20/20 . 20 overs each team . This encouraged hitters to go hard . Now they are scoring more runs in 20 overs than they used to in 50 overs. The die hearts still enjoy the 5 day game yet they have opened cricket up to the younger instant gratification generation. At least cricket has evolved and not stagnated. Hope this helps . God blessyou

    • @kingspeechless1607
      @kingspeechless1607 2 года назад

Don't be ridiculous; cricket did not start as a five-day game! Cricket started out as a game played in a day, by workers, between pubs, hamlets, villages, small market towns, schools, country estates, clubs, etc, etc. Much later with the evolution of mixed professional and amateur cricket, and then international cricket it was not a five game day. English County cricket when it became established in its 'modern' form in the 19th century and led to overseas tours and the birth of international games was not five-day cricket.
Never forget that even now international cricket represents something like 0.0001% of all cricket that is played.

I played for 50 years (and umpired, scored, etc.) and always made the effort to keep up with changes in the Laws. I was often amazed by players with decades of experience who 'thought' they knew the the laws but had 'strange beliefs' that were no part of the actual laws, and it was very hard to talk them out of it!

As for formats this was a 'T20 game' (20 overs = 120 balls) between two New Zealand provincial teams; there are also 40 overs leagues and 50 overs formats as well. At professional level it is normally T20 lasting 3 to 3.5 hours, plus One day format (50 overs = 300 balls) which is played over about 7 hours (it has a break between innings). Both these formats are played at International level as well and referred to as T20i and ODI (One Day International).
However, the much older, traditional formats are played as timed games rather than limited to a set number of overs. At professional level you have domestic 'first-class' cricket, usually played over 3 or 4 days (6 hours playing time each day with breaks between 2-hour sessions) and are played in white clothing with the traditional red cricket ball. This leads on to the crème de la crème of cricket; International Test matches which are played between the top nations for up to 5-days (again 6 hours per day; but the length of play in a day can be extended if any play was lost or if the fielding team hasn't bowled enough overs in the day). The other major difference with this first-class and Test cricket is the added dimension of two innings for each team (if needed).

Easy way to know which cricket are you watching..
If the players are wearing white clothes and there's a red ball it's definitely a test match
If the players are wearing colored clothes or jerseys and there's a white ball it's an ODI international match.. either 50 overs or 20 overs..

Looking at that scorecard (as a follower of crickets for a lot of decades) I was struck by the innings of 'Johnson' who scored 25 from 13 balls; to me it looks like a vital innings; it's only 25 but because of strike rate it played a big part in winning the game. Without that they would have been left with too many runs to get off the last two overs.

  • @peterlinsley4287

Ok a cricket ball is the same as a baseball cork wrapped in string covered in leather but 2 hemispheres sown in the middle with 6 stitches and lackered the stitches course a raised seam were when it his the ground the bowler can make go were ever they want weather fast or slow
T20 is 20 overs per team then 1 x day match is 50 overs per side and then there is a test match, which is innings so all 10 bats men on both sides twice. What ever overs it take. Test match and one dayers are more tactical were T20 is just hit and run smash it. Just score as many runners you can.

The minor league cricket just completed it's season in the US this past weekend. It's a good watch and you can follow it on RUclips. Also, the USA cricket team has been touring (I watched them play in Scotland on Willow TV), and I think they have more games scheduled - check them out. Welcome to the international group that is cricket fans! T20 Cricket is the bat/ball game of the future. I believe that it will eventually rival baseball in America. Original Cricket (or Test Cricket) is really boring. Occasionally it is played for the maximum 5 days for no result (a draw).
