QUANTUM OF SOLACE | Quantum Meeting at the Opera

- Bond identifies members of Quantum watching the performance of Tosca in QUANTUM OF SOLACE (2008). The scene was filmed in Bregenz, Austria at the largest outdoor auditorium in Europe, on the shores of Lake Constance.
Mr White is such a boss. Doesn’t even flinch. Everyone panics and runs, exposing their faces. He chills and enjoys the show.
He knows the game. He knows Bond wants them to panic so they will expose themselves. So instead of play his game, he pockets his earpiece and pretends nothing is wrong.
From another point of view, he protects his daughter from any reprisals coming from Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
That’s because they (SPECTRE) has eyes everywhere as Mr. White mentioned earlier in the film as he was being interrogated by MI6
That's because Tosca isn't for everyone.
@@martinanaya388”we have people everywhere”
I'd be so annoyed if I was at the opera and some idiot sitting next to me was mumbling plans of world domination. So inconsiderate.
That’s the actual reason that Bond wanted to give his opinion.
😄
So uncivilized
lmao no seriously.
I would be annoyed if I was at the Opera.
And so begins the story of the time I got up to go to the boy's room during Tosca and ended up on MI6's watch list.
Relax, you made that list MUCH earlier in your life. ;)
Great comment!😂👌
This deserves at least 1K likes.
You shouldn’t have had the oysters at that fancy restaurant before the opera.
If you get up during that aria, you belong on MI6's watch list
This is one of the best, most stylish, Bond scenes ever, in an undercooked but also under appreciated film. Flawed, sure, but massively underrated.
Absolutely not. They totally destroyed this scene in the editing room.
I disagree, for me it look cool
As good scene in a rubbish film
I don't exactly agree but i respect you
My fav bond film
1:21 And that's why Mr. White was such a good character. Rather than getting flustered and walking out like everyone else, he just takes his earpiece off and keeps still. He was such a good bad guy (so much better than Mr. Greene), I wish they had given him a better ending than radiation poisoning in Spectre.
His character did have an important role in Spectre, even though the rest of the film was pretty bad.
bro didn't Mr. White die in casino royale especially at the end of the scene when Bond shot him in the leg?
@@bryanho8938 You didn't see the beginning of Quantum Of Solace, did you? It continues after the end of Casino Royale. Bond had stuffed him in the trunk of his car, was chased by Mr. White's men and brought him to M for questioning. Mr. White then escaped with the help of a double-agent also in the room. This scene is the next time we see him.

This is in no way the best Bond movie, but it is definitely the most underappreciated.
Possibly my favourite scene of all of bond. Encapsulates what I like about the character of bond, he's one man willing to take on a whole organisation single handedly. What a badass.
I love how the tuxedo Craig's wearing is nearly identical to the one Connery wore in Dr. No.

@@lukasnummer1 whats wrong with slim fit? Thats how most custom tailored suits are designed to fit. If you want loose fitting wrinkly clothes i can point you to 1990s era fashion or the 1970s
@@Opticillusion160 slim fit skimps out on material and doesn't show off a person's shape in a flattering manner. @@ebf5026 it does... if you’re thin lol thats the point of slim fit. The problem is guys who do not have the build for slim fit trying to hop on the style bandwagon. There are great slim fit suits that are just as classy and well constructed that rival a more traditional classic fit suit

"Live And Let Die" is an awesome adventure novel, by Fleming.
It has a very great plot but unfortunately the fast editing and shaky camera make this very unwatchable for me, I’ve tried many times to give this film a chance but I just get a headache especially during this scene.

@@Kerleyyy I think about the incomprehensibility of this scene every time I see bad editing. I watched 'Aloha' a few years in theaters and couldn't place why it was so god-awfully bad, and poorly-edited, but the sensation I *did* recognize: It was the same feeling as watching the Opera scene in 'Quantum of Solace'. 13 years later, I've only seen it the one time in theaters and still remember how distract it was.

I've been watching all of Daniel Craig's Bond movies in a row, and I've got to say, this scene REALLY got me hooked into the movie.
Such a clever way to meet up and discuss plans about taking over one of the Earth's resources. Rather than the classic board room of villains sitting at a table.
I really loved the realism of QoS. If only the franchise had looked to this movie as the guide to their future: rather than laser beams and spaceships, this film captured the banality of actual power players. The villain of this film was not a deranged billionaire intent on seeing the world burn, but instead a calculated cabal of secondary world leaders. These people had enough power to be untouchable, but not so much that they were recognizable. Isn't it ironic that since 2008 the world has turned stranger than fiction, or at least stranger than this bond entry?
You know what, that’s a great point about crime being strange. It’s obvious that evil is afoot. Maybe that’s why the last few Bond films took a dive, it’s unrealistic to assume there’s a good guy agent out there fighting for us.
to the absolute tee
It’s about as close as you can get to saying something about the real world in the confines of a James Bond movie. Man, I wish this version of the series would have continued at least a few films more.
Too bad it's a terribly made film. Shit editing. Villian is a good actor but a shit character
@@genetenz I think it’s a great movie. Stunt work is straight out of the Bourne era of action flicks, a time when people did real movies with real stunts.
Quantum is a better modern-day Spectre than the Spectre we actually got.
So much this. I was really not thrilled when they replaced it halfway through, would have much preferred to see the Quantum storyline continue to playout without trying to bring back literal-Blofeld and literal-SPECTRE.
Quantum is terrifying whereas Spectre is just goofy.
I hope they retcon Quantum back to being an independent crime organization once more, no longer being influenced with Blofeld's Spectre.
At least I had some fun with Spectre. QoS is just booooring!

@@thenewsaint04 Sorry, but Michael Apted (R.I.P.) is not the director of this movie.
Controversial opinion: This is my favorite bond. The villain is believable, the action scenes I found to be more gritty and realistic, and bond shows his more vulnerable side and for once doesn't get to bang the girl in the end. It was just the editing was weird at times.
James Bond is a fantasy world; it's never been about "gritty realism". Bond doesn't have to be like Roger Moore, but pretending like it's a serious spy thriller franchise is just silly. Bond is the longest-running, most successful franchise in history, and the secret of its success is, apparently, in the style and entertainment aspects of it, which this particular film lacks entirely. The direction is just awful. The action sequences are shot with shaky camera and very aggressive editing, that makes it impossible to see what's happening on screen. The makers of this movie should've studied Battleship Potemkin (1925) to learn a thing or two about shooting action and editing.

I absolutely love the way this scene is edited. So creative! Rather than being played out as just another chase scene, we literally go from a moment of silence as Bond escapes, to where suddenly the confrontation becomes an opera in itself.
The editing, my god, the editing. So many jump cuts in that fight scene. Let me see what's going on!
The editing is way too frentic in the film - but ironically the style works for this scene
@@hugodrax71 Yeah everyone complains about the quick cuts in this movie and talks about this scene. It's an artistic choice that actually works quite well for this scene. I just wish they hadn't chosen this style for the rest of the action in the rest of the movie.
And yet this was plagued and undercooked :/
They didn't learn from Casino Royale. Never touch your earpiece.
Put your hand down!!
Also don't stand up. Mr White got it right
I like that touch of Mr. White being the only guy here with the forethought to go "Hey hang on, if I get up that'll reveal my face as well as my voice."
Sure, Bond already knows Mr. White, so it's a moot point, but the other guys really dropped the ball here.
Why give Bond a chance to recapture him though?
He's the only true professional. The rest of the organization are idiots run by a megalomaniac with a vendetta against Bond that only exists in his head.
The other guys are senior management. White's still a field man (if a very high-ranking one). Makes sense that he'd still have the reflexes and thought processes that the others have long forgotten, if they ever knew them.
And the irony of it all, Bond passes by him on the Way out without noticing him.
Mr. White was the only one smart enough to not immediately stand up when he heard Bond's voice
This movie would have been outstanding if not for the writer's strike. Regardless, several great moments in it.
I thought this was a weak film, but then I saw no time to die which had such lazy writing
The writing isn't that bad, what let's this film down the most is the horrible editing.

Oh, bugger. That’s so me.
This movie is infinitely better once you have watched SPECTRE and realise that Quantum is just one of many sub-organisations. The plot, the characters, etc all now make much more sense.
The whole Quantum being part of SPECTRE thing wasn't as believable for me as it was supposed to. If they had actually put in hints in the other films to lead up to the whole Blofeld telling Bond "haha I've been the one behind everything that has happened to you" thing then it would have been more believable, but SPECTRE lost me with the 10 minute fight inside an out-of-control helicopter despite some cool scenes. It was filled with too way too many cliches to the point of film practically making fun of itself for it. QoS had too much frenetic editing for a Bond film, but I respect Marc Forster's effort to throw in tons of symbolism throughout, and the writing imo was better than SPECTRE despite being made during the writer's strike.
SPECTRE had the problem some horror bad guys do... they're so all-powerful and un-stoppable they aren't even believable in a fictional sense.
It’s infinitely better after watching Spectre because Spectre is the REAL piece of shit, and this one is WAY better

An opera is such a “bond” location. It oozes the classy look of James Bond. And the music works SO WELL in this scene and with the character.
People may rag on the Bond franchise and the Daniel Craig movies, but I, a blue collar worker and enjoyer of the finer things in life (like the opera, the ballet) absolutely love the juxtaposition of this scene combining my favorite opera, Tosca, with a shootout in a fancy reataurant. It's just so brilliantly done. And, for the record, Sean Connery is still the best Bond, but Daniel Craig is a VERY close 2nd.
I honestly think this film is better than people think. If this was the only scene in the film, however, that was quickly edited I think it would've been much better because it could be justified as a contrast with the opera currently playing out.
In case anyone's wondering, this piece from "Tosca" is "Te Deum laudamus"
One of the most amazingly edited fights in the entire franchise!
Just want to say it's a lovely modern production of Tosca!
Beautiful juxtaposition between Tosca and Bond. Just like Tosca feels liberated - almost extatic - for putting an end to Scarpia's obssession in such a vicious manner, in this movie Bond finds solace in behaving violently and implacably when executing his missions, as an outlet for his repressed feelings for Vesper's death.
