It’s amazing that you can sail from one unbelievably beautiful place to another up there and still have it pretty much to yourselves… all while eating some of the best seafood the world has to offer, lol!!
Great video! Would be awesome if you keep including your food recipes too! Everything always looks delish especially considering you don’t have refrigeration. Happy sailing!
That inlet you were anchored out in is pronounced Kwaw - Koom . We used to pull in there in my salmon seining days . We never got any crabs there either . Not too crabby a spot I guess .One time we were heading in there for the night a seiner ahead of us bounced over that rock . A few boats have hit it apparently .i really enjoy watching your videos . They bring back many many good memories of my time fishing the central coast .
Kwaw-Koom! Drop the e, thank you for this!!! I had a feeling that rock got a lot of folks, didn't want it to get us haha So glad you're enjoying the videos. Sharing them and reading comments/stories like this about the places we visit enriches the experience for us too, so thank you for that!
Hello from Victoria BC Canada , enjoy watching the show so far and currently playing catch up . We are helping a guy that works for my brother move his sail boat the Balderdash from Sooke to Maple Bay . Find myself watching thease sailing shows to get a little sail savey . Safe travels .
Thanks for saying hello, Colin! So glad you're enjoying the vids! Maple Bay is a nice area we almost moved our boat there for a stint when James and I were both working at the hospital in the Cowichan Valley. Happy to answer any sailing related questions you might have. Cheers and thanks for being here!
Enjoying all your videos. Long time fishermen, key to catching a lot of fish is….. fish where there is a lot of fish. Ha ha. Keep up the sending videos and we will look for you on the water.
Ah yess, maybe the problem isn’t us, it’s the lack of fish! Seems like there are more in Alaska?! Had some better luck up there! Glad you’re enjoying the videos, cheers!
Another awesome video, yes the salmon, wow great, hey who forgets their coat, lol lol. The meals look great, I'm with Allison Crack it all then sit back and enjoy, I have mine dipped in hot garlic butter. It's great. Thanks again
Cool did not know about the gravlax, that's really useful. Nice trip guys! Hope you avoided that big storm the other day. I heard 70 knots reported in Juan de fuca strait.
Glad you enjoyed that! It’s our go to way for making best use of a fresh salmon! Yikes! Ya that was a decent one! It was blowing real good up here as well! Def wouldn’t want to be caught out in that😅
We love the beauty and the gentleness of your channel! You inspired me to make gravalax in this episode. Delicious would be an understatement. Orgasmic isn’t a word I’d use to describe a meal, but it truly was as close to orgasmic as I’ve ever been through taste. Thank you and thank you.
You guys should go with AG 1 most of the other cruisers go with them I’ve been on them for almost a year and they’re amazing. That was a beautiful video again as always. Thank you so much. 💜🤟🏻🐬⛵️😎🇺🇸Liz
I had no idea that gravlax was called just that in English. It is part of just about every festive food as an appetizer in Finland and Sweden. I've been slowly going through your videos, and you are now becoming my favorite sailing channel after Alluring Arctic. Interesting nature and sailing and the content is quite relatable in many aspects.
Amazing, one of our favorites! More reasons for us to sail Scandinavia! Awh, love to hear that! Really glad you’re enjoying what we’re creating. Thank you for singing up to support the continued production of our videos, that really means a lot
Awesome segment you two. Even having lived both on the coast and the interior of BC, I had no idea that clay existed. You guys just expand my understanding of this great province weekly. 🙏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! We knew nothing about this place before turning up here. We went down a deep clay rabbit hole and it was fascinating haha such a neat spot, we learned a lot!
@@AllisonandJamesSailing Well again, I so enjoyed this segment. You two cover and expand some major pieces of informational history and much more. It’s hard to elaborate on. I keep making notes for my/our northern adventure from Deep Bay. I’d love to tie up at Tuktuyuktuk.
@@theboakster Thank you! Stoked you'll be heading up here on your own adventure. The place you mentioned is NWT yeah? You eyeing the Northern Passage route?
Much respect to you both for recognizing and respecting the importance of the indigenous peoples of the region. Washtė ! ( Lakota expression meaning, it is good … at least that is how I understand the meaning )
You should get a cooler refrigerator. They consume very little power, they run on 30 degree angles no problem and they are only a couple hundred bucks. It was a game changer for my sailboat.
Great episode, been a while since I've watched you guys. Allison great job on the camera, felt like I was there. Congrats on the salmon, James was stoked. James you can always fall back on being a chef, I still have to try yeast in my panny cakes. Thanks again.
Allison & James, hi from Calgary. Thanks for that all your episodes in fact. A chill couple sailing a reasonable boat up BC waters taking it ass it comes. More concerned with enjoying each others company, sailing and adventure in the Pacific NW than anything else. The food my gosh kudos to both of you. Time for the 'Cooking w/Allison & James Show'. A part of the world you can get lost on purpose in or lost with a few other boats. But very definitely waters you have to know how to sail its serious water. I've grown tired of those Caribbean waters only channels, yammering on about their new 5M custom built Cat that takes more time for warranty maintenance haul outs than enjoying the sailing. Well done totally enjoyable (Young Cruisers Best New Channel vote yes,)
Hi Rick! Thank you so much for the kind words, that’s a nice way of surmising what we’re about! Really glad you’re enjoying what we’re making (the food and the vids)! This is a beautiful area of the world to cruise and we figured if we wanted to watch videos about it, then others would too! Thanks for being here, cheers!
Enjoyed your episode so much! I absolutely love the beauty of the area you all are and especially from the perspective of sailing into these areas. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for another great video! I guess a stove would be nice, where you are going! One thing about a boat...it's always work! Stay safe from Newfoundland!
I can only say that I’ve only enjoyed eating Dungeness. I reflect back to when we visited Tofino and I asked the merchant on the dock how to cook a Dungeness. We were newbies to British Columbia let alone the west coast and so I knew nothing. So, this person told me as she picked up this large Dungeness to knock it between the lookers. Apparently, I had a very confused look on my face. After all, I had just graduated from the RCMP Depot training world on the prairies after having grown up in southwestern Ontario. And so, she in her extreme level of patience demonstrated where the horn was between the eyes (lookers), imbedded an axe in a stump and caught the crabs horn on the tip of the axe thus lifting the entire shell and killing the crab instantly. She lifted the shell, cleaned the guts and then split the body in half over the blade of the axe. I was enthralled for sure. What a shame our today’s technology didn’t exist back in 1983. But, we picked up some crab and knocked them between the lookers when we got back home in QB. They were delicious for sure. We have not seen our sailboat since before the wildfires here in the Shuswap this past August and so are looking forward to getting to Deep Bay to clean her up. Our goal is to mirror your explorations or perhaps stray somewhat and perhaps make our way into the Bering or further. We are certainly older than you guy’s hovering around 70. But, what’s in a number right? Anyways, we are certainly enjoying your exploits and perhaps someday we will meet in person somewhere along the shores of this beautiful coastline. Regards, Larry and Marianne
Haha! Wow Tofino gal definitely had a knack for taking care of Dunges proper, impressive!🪓 Just a number is right, stoked about those plans you guys! Hope you can get back to and out on your boat soon! And yes we’d love to cross paths in an anchorage one day soon, cheers!
Very nice🎉 thanks The great outdoors there has a lot offer,, and you two are eating well thanks to a combined effort, the pink salmon we get here is the most expensive and is very tasty, oh and I nibble my crab while cracking shell 😊 Food is so good out on the water
Agreed, it's a pretty satisfying feeling to get to enjoy a beautiful fish that you've caught, filleted and prepared with your own hands, fresh from the sea. A deep level of appreciation & gratitude for the salmon and the nourishment it provides. Thank you for watching!
I have eaten a lot of crab growing up in the bay, so have tried both methods tons of times. I'm a cut up my entire pancake/waffle then eat it kind of guy but I'm with James on this one. The crab is warm when you eat it as you pick it because it's shell keeps it insulated. Eating a pile of cold crab is definitely not the vibe lol and for some reason it's flavour seems to be ever so slightly different if you stock pile it
Loved the footage of the square run. And sorry Allison ill have to side with James on the correct way to eat crab ... eat as you shell. Not that I mind which way you eat it as long as i dont have to ... tastes just lie the ocean ... yuk
