Still one of the best another ~8 years later! Very iconic design and pretty rare to find one these days! Just got one myself, keeping it till I die. I mostly play on leverless now but this is my stick of choice for when I play certain games. Brook Wingman FGC keeping it alive for PS5 too ;)
7:23 "I have played with some of these at tournaments and had a couple problems". Sounds like you were getting your ass whooped, and as always, decided to place the blame on anything other than yourself. And I really don't know why you keep insisting the buttons on MadCatz aren't genuine Sanwa. When this stick first came out, I bought different colored Sanwas on LizardLick (when it was still around) for it, and the buttons were exactly the same.
I got to agree with you DSP on how you pointed out the buttons on the TE. I have a modded SE with all Sanwa parts and just recently got a TE stick, the stick feels the same but the buttons they claim that are Sanwa on the TE feel a bit different than my SE Sanwa buttons that were actually bought and imported here. All good though been using the TE for the last 2 weeks and haven't had a problem so far. Can't wait for your SSF4 videos DSP.
Is it a default 4 square gate or the octa-gate on the TE fight stick? Would you agree that charge charaters are slightly easier on the 4 gate or is this just a personal preference. How about when you walk into a japanese arcade hall, will you have the 4gate or the 8?
Its all in DSP's head. The buttons on the TE are indeed 100% sanwa. They play and feel identical to the sanwa buttons i bought off of lizardlick. Other than that he is right on the rest of the review.
thanks thats also what i thought but i noticed some of the stick have a small slant to rest your hand I'm not sure how id play does that make a difference at all ?
I have this stick and I have no complaints. I also have the Blazblue Continuum shift TE stick they both feel the same. Its really what your preferences are which you like more.
Great vid, anyway I've read the TE parts are all sanwa no? I have the standard edition stick with all the buttons and joystick modded to Sanwa, which should make my SE stick same internally with the TE stick, but other than the size and weight, does the TE stick have that much of a difference compared to my SE stick with sanwa upgraded parts?
Is SSF4 worth getting if your new to the series. I was thinking about get SF4 when it was released but I didnt have enough money for the game and a Joysick. What are your guys' opinions?
Hey DSP, could you create a speed comparison between the xbox/PS3 controller, then the fight pad, and lastly the fight stick. I really want to know(like many others) what controller is king. If you can't do it, it's ok. I just have never seen a clear cut well thought video. I've seen 3 of your videos and i'm very impressed with your work(close to subsribing). Thanks in advance.
@enditend yeah it's supposed to have that super light feel to it. It's because the buttons are so sensitive that one little tap activates it. I have a crap stick right now and the buttons feel like a toy.
AHHH i dunno what to do. i have enough money for this and the arcade (obv i have enough for the cheaper one if i have the money for the more expensive one) but i dunno if i should buy the TE one and just keep it till i wanna mod it OR buy the SE stick and mod it right away, modding the SE stick in the uk after getting parts etc is alittle bit more expensive but i dunno if it will be worth the money. so PLEASE HELP!
@MrAnferro no you need the mk stick to my knowlage. But is you can it would be pretty dumb because mk consist of directional combos, where as the Street Fighter stick is made for street fighter, which consist of mainly sweeps
You get adjusted to the sticks shape in time. i have a hori and a madcatz and it is different going from one to another. As for the slant on the TE sticks it really doesn't hinder your game play at all.
which one do i buy is what i wanna know I'm completely confused ! im also looking at the sf x t vs edition ! can someone help me understand which way to go and what are the differences
When you remove the 6 screws on top, the metal plate (holding the stick and buttons), bezel and plexi will come off and apart. You need to peel the artwork off, but yes it can be swapped almost just as easy as the TE2+ and such
@MiggeX personally my parents are getting me round two but it depends which parts are higher quality, not sure about "round three" ssfiv edition though
I got the Black Tournament Edition S & like you say the buttons are a bit better then the arcade ver. but is not on par with the real Sanwa or Seimitsu the difference is that the buttons of the TE can withstand some punishment without breaking unlike the arcade ver. that broke after a few days but unlike the Sanwa or Seimitsu still is bit harder to pull of link combos since you need to HIT the button to get the timing where the Sanwa or Seimitsu a simple press will do they're more responsive
@Whatisright What's rotating isn't the ball, it's the whole stick. Try it by just holding the metal part of the stick, and trying to rotate it. It will move with the ball. If you hold tightly the metal part and try and rotate the ball it won't move, because the ball is not what moves.
@Pakistani290 I think there's a bigger one, the Hori SA VLX one, if you've watched the international tournament at Season's Beatings, it's the one Chocoblanka is using. I bet that one is heavier but I'm not too sure. It definitely is a lot bigger though
@b7ray32 go to a tournament and see how many people use pads. It's not that you can't do certain things on a stick that you can't on a pad, it's just that the stick and buttons on it are much more reactive than that of a pad. Trust me, when i first used a fightstick after months on a pad, it was ridiculous how much better it felt.
The buttons and stick are official sanwa parts, the same that you'd import. You might be having problems with the madcatz PCB since some people have reported they aren't very reliable.
@AStickManProductions You can use a normal controller, but it doesn't feel the same. If you want to use controllers to play I believe there are controllers with the joystick layout, I would say buy one of those, the standard xbox 360/ps3 controller just doesn't feel right. But it is doable, if you don't want to spend money.
I have the TE version and it works great for PS3 games, but will not work with a PS2 game being played in a PS3 system. Very frustrating. For a stick this expensive, you would think that it would be compatible with all PS1, PS2, and PS3 games played on a PS3 system.
@MiggeX They're All The Same Quality. (Sanwa Denshi Parts) But If I were to Find A SuperSFIV Stick I Would Personally Invest In That Stick Since It's A newer Model.
A TIP FOR EVERYONE: if your an at home player who only plays at home get the original cheap one it is still really really good but the tournament edition hence tournament means it is made for tournament players but if you got extra cash might as well but for people who play at home get the original it really is not that bad. thanks for lettin me share, dragonzkilerz
@solidbeaver ok, but its still kinda annoying. I guess its cause I'm not that used to the stick yet. I did see a video though that will make doing most moves a lot easier.
The Arcade stick, The packaging.... 6 years later this stick is for me One of The best. In my top 3. The last I have bought is The Hori Kuro VLX.
Still one of the best another ~8 years later! Very iconic design and pretty rare to find one these days! Just got one myself, keeping it till I die. I mostly play on leverless now but this is my stick of choice for when I play certain games. Brook Wingman FGC keeping it alive for PS5 too ;)

stfu idiot
Tristan this fat fuck never takes responsibility for his losing.

The first and the best Madcatz arcade fighstick
Its all in DSP's head. The buttons on the TE are indeed 100% sanwa. They play and feel identical to the sanwa buttons i bought off of lizardlick. Other than that he is right on the rest of the review.

hey DSP my apologies if u mentioned this and i missed it but where do u get ur buttons and joystick from when u want to modify ur sticks?
@Naesun1 I also want to know this. And is the TE stick a square, octagonal, or circular restrictor?
So if i go with the arcade stick and jsut mod it with Sanwa parts Ill save alot of money AND get a decent stick?
Phil what do the 2 buttons on the backside of the joystick do?
I am so getting this. I need a stick for street fighter. (play on pc, hard on keyboard) and this will be my first one!!! SO excited :)
is there a way to keep the ball top from rotating? I find it annoying and difficult to use like that.
sweet thanks bro looks like imma get the sf x tekken vs stick cause since they've been out the prices for the te have sky rocketed !
which is better the TE, theres a fully black one and this.
Theres seems to be 2 design...hmmm
Pls let me know. i can't wait to buy one.
Great footage!!!
Great vid, anyway I've read the TE parts are all sanwa no? Is SSF4 worth getting if your new to the series. I was thinking about get SF4 when it was released but I didnt have enough money for the game and a Joysick. What are your guys' opinions?
can u do a vid taking a look at ur blanka arcade stick
Hey DSP, could you create a speed comparison between the xbox/PS3 controller, then the fight pad, and lastly the fight stick. I really want to know(like many others) what controller is king. If you can't do it, it's ok. I just have never seen a clear cut well thought video. I've seen 3 of your videos and i'm very impressed with your work(close to subsribing). Thanks in advance.
Have you tried the blaze digital arcade stick?
@enditend yeah it's supposed to have that super light feel to it. It's because the buttons are so sensitive that one little tap activates it. I have a crap stick right now and the buttons feel like a toy.
hey dude what you think its better, this Mad catz TE sticks or the Real Arcade Pro VX SA??
Is this still worth £55? I'm contemplating for PC.
Do these sticks have SOCD cleaners?
Should i get SFIV TE Round 2 OR SuperSFIV fight stick??? Please help
still, it's great to hear his opinion
AHHH i dunno what to do. i have enough money for this and the arcade (obv i have enough for the cheaper one if i have the money for the more expensive one) but i dunno if i should buy the TE one and just keep it till i wanna mod it OR buy the SE stick and mod it right away, modding the SE stick in the uk after getting parts etc is alittle bit more expensive but i dunno if it will be worth the money. so PLEASE HELP!
@lMrHankeyl By the way, do you know any good places to get a tekken joystick for ps3?
@MrAnferro no you need the mk stick to my knowlage. But is you can it would be pretty dumb because mk consist of directional combos, where as the Street Fighter stick is made for street fighter, which consist of mainly sweeps
@antoineedmundson21
where the hell did you find it? I was looking on amazon today and it's going for 150...
You get adjusted to the sticks shape in time. i have a hori and a madcatz and it is different going from one to another. As for the slant on the TE sticks it really doesn't hinder your game play at all.
which one do i buy is what i wanna know I'm completely confused ! im also looking at the sf x t vs edition ! can someone help me understand which way to go and what are the differences
does it work on PS4 as well ?
Fragrance Tattoo I bought one..didnt work..!
+Wandy tjam I found out, you need to turn the "legacy mode" on if the game you play can support it.
Fragrance Tattoo really..how? my one it worked for 10second and disconnected after that...any idea about that case?
+Wandy tjam I can not know but you can google to see how you can do that
thanks..:0
Does anybody know if there is a way to put custom artwork on this one? I don't think you can remove the old one like you can with the newer edition ?
When you remove the 6 screws on top, the metal plate (holding the stick and buttons), bezel and plexi will come off and apart. You need to peel the artwork off, but yes it can be swapped almost just as easy as the TE2+ and such
can you only use this stick to street fighter
@srbclarke its square , but you can change it pretty easy to octogonal for more of an amaerican style
Is the xbox 360 version compatible with the xbox one s ?
is there a way i can use this ps3 TE1 controller on notebook or pc
is it me or you vant do combos on a control plz reply so i know if i just suck
Hey DSP whats your fav stick??
do you have a website where we can buy custom fight sticks from you o:?
Your question was answered, there is no need to go into detail for it. No need to have a temper tantrum.
@MiggeX personally my parents are getting me round two but it depends which parts are higher quality, not sure about "round three" ssfiv edition though
Does this stick work for PS3 and PC?
Hi did you find out if it works on the PS4?
whats a good recommended stick?
How long do tournament fightstick last by any chance?
Nice video
I got the Black Tournament Edition S & like you say the buttons are a bit better then the arcade ver. but is not on par with the real Sanwa or Seimitsu

this or the hori hrap v3 sa?
You can play UMvC3 with this fighting stick?
@Pakistani290 I think there's a bigger one, the Hori SA VLX one, if you've watched the international tournament at Season's Beatings, it's the one Chocoblanka is using. I bet that one is heavier but I'm not too sure. It definitely is a lot bigger though
@lMrHankeyl Tbh some of the combos are nearly impossible to pull off with a pad.
is it me of is it hard to do combos on a control i mean
@antoineedmundson21 which site xD?
Great videos, very elaborate. Too many bs fightstick videos plaguing youtube, so thanks
Does this arcade stick work on the PS4???
No it doesn’t, u need a ps3 to ps4 converter
this comment will probably sound stupid but can you play mk9 with this fightstick?
Please Reply
Phil you rock!!
Nice coffee table.
@Einchy1 That's what I was thinking. I guess the satisfaction of creating your own stick got to him.
This stick looks a lot better than the arcade version.
@b7ray32 go to a tournament and see how many people use pads. It's not that you can't do certain things on a stick that you can't on a pad, it's just that the stick and buttons on it are much more reactive than that of a pad. raise your camera up phil, if possible, i can barely see half the stuff, but still a good review
in amazon the price is £140.00
i already ordered it getting it in 4 more DAYS!
and have one coming tommorow!
order mine used 2019 £45
@Tehsmilingone the weight and size is different aswell get the te lol probz even up to same price or more
@Pakistani290 from the madcatz series, yes.
the buttons are the same, if its mounted directly onto mdf itll feel nicer than mounted onto metal like the TE but it performs the same.
You do realize all sticks work on different fighting games, no matter what their tied to.Research is your friend (just saying)
@AStickManProductions You can use a normal controller, but it doesn't feel the same. If you want to use controllers to play I believe there are controllers with the joystick layout, I would say buy one of those, the standard xbox 360/ps3 controller just doesn't feel right.
But it is doable, if you don't want to spend money.
tournament edition stick is freakin sick!!!!!
Anytime Bro
@andrejagal Yes it works on the PC
@a2KingKevin
You can play any fighing game with any stick... e.e
@Whatisright Its to keep it from breaking.
At EB Games they're only $120 for a brand new one.
Hey Dsp... You should look on the Ubisoft Forums... I think they are going to get some legal attention by the modulators...
Never gonna BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR THIS GUY!!!! MADCATZ ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST, ASK DAIGO!!! ;)
I have the TE version and it works great for PS3 games, but will not work with a PS2 game being played in a PS3 system. Very frustrating. For a stick this expensive, you would think that it would be compatible with all PS1, PS2, and PS3 games played on a PS3 system.
nice vid phil but u need to put up ur camer so more but a very very nice review
So, whats your favorite? I don't really remember you telling us. :3
@MiggeX They're All The Same Quality. (Sanwa Denshi Parts) But If I were to Find A SuperSFIV Stick I Would Personally Invest In That Stick Since It's A newer Model.
@b7ray32 yea dude i was just saying its more confortable using a fight stick xD
@lMrHankeyl yeah the camera needs to be higher but great review DSP
@lMrHankeyl Me I use a gamepad but I do want to get a joystick to see how it's like
I got this one because my arcade edition broke. But i got the collecters 20th anniversary thingy.
A TIP FOR EVERYONE: if your an at home player who only plays at home get the original cheap one it is still really really good but the tournament edition hence tournament means it is made for tournament players but if you got extra cash might as well but for people who play at home get the original it really is not that bad.
thanks for lettin me share,
dragonzkilerz
@solidbeaver ok, but its still kinda annoying. I guess its cause I'm not that used to the stick yet. I did see a video though that will make doing most moves a lot easier.
why did you totally bash this stick on your older review??
I would get a joystick if the prices weren't so high!
You forgot talking about TE Round 2 sticks Phil :P
Mine has seen hundreads hours of abuse and still performs to a T. I'll be using the same exact one for SSF4.
This is so different from your normal reviews the camera needs to be a little higher
why? does it suck?
i have a stick that its kinda shaped like a "!" and i'm thinking of changing to one like your fighting stick that is shaped like a
"O"
"|"
@juangarcia2007 If your not gonna play hardcore than get the $40 one... If you are get the new one.
@RKmiker thx mate for the answer
