As someone who doesn't know anything about Street Fighter and has never really taken an interest, this was very informative and has peaked my interest. Thanks for taking the time to do this Phil.
The MadCatz SSFIV TE I think uses lower grade mass produced Sanwa parts. Some reviewers that have custom arcade sticks with Sanwa says that the TE buttons feels a little bit off.
I picked up the Marvel vs Capcom TE stick this past January. And it is basically the SF4 TE stick for the exception of color and art. However, it also has a plastic tab where the headphone jack would have been. So I guess they started transition away from that even before this new SSF4 stick was manufactured.
The buttons feel different because they aren't the more commonly used OSBN-30, but the OSBN-30RG, the high-end buttons series from Sanwa designed to endure a lot more punishment than the regular buttons. The micro-switch springs feel a lot more softer, so pressing it gives the impression that it's very fragile and cheap, but it's exactly the opposite.
Dude, that has got to be the sexiest, coolest looking stick I've ever seen. I love the way the buttons contrast the background. I want one, and I'm not even good at Street Fighter
There was actually a secondary T.E. stick called "Round 2" that was released before the SSF4 one. You should've spoke about the square gates that all these sticks come with cause it can actually turn people off who don't like square gate or don't know anything about that stuff. An explanation about gates can be a sale or no sale to people just so they know.
@AguyUsingTubeyou The one in the video is the PS3 edition, which has the plain buttons, xbox version has coloured buttons. (It's also why there's no microphone socket on this one, because ps3 uses wireless)
@billtamer You can use wired USB headsets on the PS3. I used one until I got the official blue tooth headset. Its just there isn't a standard 1st party model.
Great series DSP and am glad that you are going to continue it. The reason the PS3 version of the stick doesn't have a microphone jack is because the PS3 uses blue tooth headsets (althogh it is possible to use USB headsets on the PS3).
@TheDickshark Wut? Do you mean stock pads for the PS3 and 360 or the Madcatz Saturn knock-offs? Considering SSF4 forces you to fight like a poking scrub most of the time (or at least that's how I feel), I'd say arcade sticks have never been more essential for an SF game, 3rd Strike included.
It's weird that there's no headphone jack on yours as the pictures for both the black and white Super SFIV sticks on Amazon both show headphone jacks with even HEADPHONE JACK written right above it. Great videos btw.
Not that you've reviewed this yet, but from a glance and what you've said about the 2009 SF IV sticks; the Tournament Edition for around $110 looks like a better deal than this for $150 or more. Are you gonna review the SF Fight Pad(s)? I've had the Chun Li 2009 model for about a year now and I've had no regrets; if you don't want to use a stick you're gonna need one of these for SFIV on 360. I'm curious to hear you compare Fight Pad buttons to stick buttons. Good reviews.
The reason that there's no mic jack is because the PS3 uses wireless Bluetooth technology as opposed to a 360 which can use a corded mic. My original PS3 tournament stick was like that and it threw me at first until I realized it.
The Madcatz sticks are definitely Sanwa, in that it uses Omron switches. But whats interesting is that it doesn't use the same Sanwa spring. It uses the same springs that are found in the standard edition, which are considerably looser.
how much did you get from gamestop for your SF4? and how much do you think i'll get if i trade it in now (keep in mind i have collectors edition which is two discs, second disc has a movie)
This was a really great review, good job man! My only question is how does the weight of the stick as a whole feel? Does it have a nice weighty feel to it? Or does it feel lighter/cheaper? I'm stuck between either buying this exact stick in the exact same color, or the Tournament Edition Round 2 Stick. I'm kind of dissapointed that MadCatz removed the border on the sides of the stick because I actually thought it looked great on the design. Which one do you recommend I buy out of the two?
I suppose to be getting this stick for Christmas :P... Which my aunt brought for me...That is now 129 dollars... also to people who play Marvel vs Capcom 2? Is the stick have like all punches and kicks on the inifinite ROMS?
That stick has an absolutely GORGEOUS design!!! The buttons looked like they made no changes to them and no jack for headphones? So basically they improved the design drastically and removed 1 of the features of TE stick (headphone jack)...kinda odd but that design is gorgeous...i'll definitely test it out to see how it feels...but for the price they could of kept the headphone jack and at least added another feature to it. Thanks for the reviews DSP!!!
u forgot to mention that the sides of the stick were like basicly toned down the first version was a bit wider from left to right wise lol and wa u play street fighter on ps3 or xbox?
@b7ray32 With enough practice you'll get used the stick. I have a friend who always played fighting games on a pad but he wanted to try out the stick so he bought one. He said it took awhile for him to fully adjust to it maybe 3 to 4 months, but once he did he couldn't imagine going back to playing fighting games on a pad.
Also thanks for buyin one of these, i was curious how they looked in comparison and in this vid you can get a much better sense of it. Plus its not in french like the other comparison video haha. If you have free time, try using it on HDremix and then maybe give a bit more info too, just for the sake of trying it out.
Its basiclly the same stick as the firt one minus they dont have the side caps . witch I think made the stick , as it was a replica of the viewlex cabinents. Im not sue what white boarde he is talking about, maybe the bezel ? (witch comes in diff colors) Also changing the art is the exact same as on the first stick as like I said its the same stick minus the nice caps they put on the sides.
Unfortunately Phil once again did not do his homework. There was indeed 2 versions of the original TE fightstick, the original, and Round 2 which was all black which i modded. This new one looks interesting though. Also you can get the same plexi and art from the same place you get it for the normal TE. Also this stick is for ps3....why would there be a jack lol.
Never knew why people needed stick reviews/unboxing. They all usually have Sanwa parts, just a different base. They are all basically the same. My first stick was a HRAP1 for PS2 with the holographic top, I still have it till this day, and every other HRAP they've made till now has basically the same parts, because I have the 360 version and the special edition... Same shit. Best thing I can say is that the ergonomics comes into play to each person. I prefer the original TE bezel. Has a good heft.
@gabinomojarro yah latest technology xbox also has wireless mic but the controller is like 1ft away from u why do u need to spend more to make it wireless and spend more money for batteries or the charger if it has one so yah latest technology
I've heard women sound less surprised about her boyfriend getting on one knee and asking her to marry him than he was about that damn headphone jack. Good video though.
As someone who doesn't know anything about Street Fighter and has never really taken an interest, this was very informative and has peaked my interest. Thanks for taking the time to do this Phil.

@TheShadowKakari Well, the buttons are colored on the 360 version. To me that makes it look a lot better, you might not like that, though.
It definitely looks SEXY!!! The lock feature also locks the pause button so you can't pause it during tournament play, i think?
1vs1 in SSF4 when the game is released?
@SlikMax it has been unavailable in amazon for months now, they only have the xbox360 version available
there is a piece that comes with the stick in the box that allows you to use a headset or mic
@taylorcooper1 ya your wright. The PS3 has only blue-tooth connectivity
@homiecoolguy17 yeah,, i gave up looking for it, i settled for the TE round 2 which does not look as slick but i heard performs just as the same
@TehNoobzPwner There's actually a 3rd blue version with a 3D Chun-Li graphic, but it's alot more like the stick that Phil showed us in Part 2.
Great series DSP and am glad that you are going to continue it.
The reason the PS3 version of the stick doesn't have a microphone jack is because the PS3 uses blue tooth headsets (althogh it is possible to use USB headsets on the PS3).
@billtamer Yes, the PS3 I would assume would work with most types. I got that headset back in 2008 to use Skype and it worked perfectly on my PS3.

@YourEveryDayJackAss
You get two extra colours for each character, but you dont need the actual game, just a save from it.
Not that you've reviewed this yet, but from a glance and what you've said about the 2009 SF IV sticks; the Tournament Edition for around $110 looks like a better deal than this for $150 or more.

The xbox360 has the microphone jack but the PS3 version supports blue tooth, it's just slightly different.
i just bought the marvel vs capcom stick hope i did not make a mistake!

I hope you give this stick a review after you start playing DSP.

So let me get this straight, there are two versions of the "s" stick the black version and the white version?
The 360 version of this stick DOES have the headphone jack. I have the white one.
I suppose to be getting this stick for Christmas :P... Which my aunt brought for me...That is now 129 dollars... also to people who play Marvel vs Capcom 2? Is the stick have like all punches and kicks on the inifinite ROMS?
phil I noticed you bought those joysticks for your PS3....will they work on the 360 as well or are you gonna have to buy 360 ones for your 360
actually, all the plexis that work with the original TEs work also with the new ones.
So did he ever get around to comparing them all?
Phil is hori a good company for fight stick parts? because on amazon there is an hori EX2 for like 40 bucks, and im wondering how good the quality is.
Awesome review I ordered this getting it in a few weeks can't wait for it!!!
Nice Stick DSP.. Just ordered mine, Can't wait to receive it..
That stick has an absolutely GORGEOUS design!!!

u forgot to mention that the sides of the stick were like basicly toned down the first version was a bit wider from left to right wise lol and wa u play street fighter on ps3 or xbox?
It's a nice stick and all. But will it blend?
i dont know much about sticks or parts so whats this sanwa he keeps mentioning do they make sticks in japan or something and thier parts are top notch
@southpaw8123 PS3 versions work on pc as well.
@b7ray32
With enough practice you'll get used the stick. I have a friend who always played fighting games on a pad but he wanted to try out the stick so he bought one. I ordered my Arcade Stick from Amazon just cause of this video, I can't wait
Dsp how did u get the super street fighter stick i couldnt find it anywhere online
why did you get the ps3 version? just wondering :x
Should i get one too? i already have the old tournament stick.
@southpaw8123 Xbox versions works with Vista or Windows 7.
@DoctorPorkenfries Will the PS3 work as well?
@bk4revenge correct, PS3 controllers don't have headphone jacks
I want to know is it worth the money after many moth of use it won't break on you like the standard edition
the reason that there isnt a mic jack is because the ps3 uses blue-tooth mics, just thought you guys should know
@MrRafie82 and I mean the sticks, not the consoles. :-D
Also thanks for buyin one of these, i was curious how they looked in comparison and in this vid you can get a much better sense of it. Plus its not in french like the other comparison video haha. hey DSP what stick would you recommend for a first time user
i have the one you have it work's for ps4 as well
does it work on pc? please reply
can anyone tell me if there are any major changes between this and the regular te? like is it noticeably smaller? cause i got these big man hands....
I was waiting for him to drop the stick on accident with how much it was wobbling
Unfortunately Phil once again did not do his homework. There was indeed 2 versions of the original TE fightstick, the original, and Round 2 which was all black which i modded. This new one looks interesting though. Also you can get the same plexi and art from the same place you get it for the normal TE. Also this stick is for ps3....why would there be a jack lol.
u should play a few rounds of marvel vs capcom 2 or something just to test it out

sweet i see that it has usb. can hook it up to a pc?
great vid
isnt the headphone jack only on the xbox 360 one?
the ps3 fightsticks never had the headphone jack, the 360 were the only ones with it
I just scored one of these for $22 in great condition and boxed in Japan. The Sanwa joystick part alone costs about $25 lol.
@IndustrialGamer sorry right...lol
are these universal for all games?, im trying to pick my first fight stick....ya know for UMvC3
Would you mind posting the dimensions of the stick please?
Where can i order this stick online to be deliverd to the uk? please sum1 help been looking everywhere.
which fight stick is the best one 1, 2 , or 3 please respond
phil, is the joystick better then the controllers?
@daidouji not me
wow u bought all the sticks?
I don't think the first PS3 TE stick had a microphone jack, at least mine doesn't.
is there a vid about modding this stick
This version seems to only differ in aesthetic aspects.
Where was this bought? I cannot find the exact same box. A lot of them have these stupid colored buttons that totally ruin the design scheme.
only the 360 versions have a microphone jack..
honest question... why would you spend 150 bucks on this years model when last years model is the exact same and 50 bucks cheaper???
good video brother, im gona get the R2 TE instead tho the mic jack is a killer for me
Do these work on PS2 games at all? I really would rather buy one of these than to buy a hrap 3.
do you have round 2 te stick? this is round three so to speak
are the sticks from Amazon original?
I think I prefer the design for the original TE sticks. This ones shape looks a little too rigid to me.
The new artwork looks pretty cool, though.
I want a stick with juri on it she's bad ass lol. ive never used a stick before but thie looks tempting. great review.
So is this joystick the best one for 360?
SFIV TE Round 2 OR SuperSFIV fight stick??? Please help
@DoctorPorkenfries That makes sense, Thanks anyway.
DSP is funny as hell. Arent all MadCats Sticks Sanwa now?
pretty sick artwork
@shortkid614 audio transcribe 00:55 lol
@gabinomojarro yah latest technology xbox also has wireless mic but the controller is like 1ft away from u why do u need to spend more to make it wireless and spend more money for batteries or the charger if it has one so yah latest technology
HAHA "men never read instruction manuals! we figure shit out!!" LMAO
@SuperSillyKitten yes they are.
@LucLeFou well what is it?
this is a 4 gate stick correct?
how can i open this arcade to put octagonal restrictor?
I've heard women sound less surprised about her boyfriend getting on one knee and asking her to marry him than he was about that damn headphone jack. Good video though.
what website you use to buy this?
