I love making things that are pretty, practical, and get used! Thank you so much. This is lovely:) Quick question. If I want to make six placemats, should I buy six skeins of the main color? I’m sure I can get by with one of my contrasting color. Thanks again!
Thank you, I like practical things too! If you use Lion Brand 24/7 cotton, then yes, one ball of main color per one placemat, and you're good! Happy crocheting! ✨️
I was wondering this too. I think since she chained 37 and started in the 3rd chain from the hook, the multiple would be 17 plus 3? 17+17+3=37. So unless I want a REALLY tall placemat I’ll have to use her numbers.
@@cheryljunkin3531 Usually the multiple is smaller (like 2 or 3 + 1 or 2 for a turning chain). I looked at the written pattern also, and there is a note about changing the size, but it didn’t make sense to me the way it was written. I’m going to try to figure it out on my own and if I do, I’ll comment here😀
@@craftygal365 I agree about it usually being a smaller number but the multiple has to be a whole number so I divided 34 by every number and 17 was the only number that worked but I’m dreadful at anything math. I’ll look at the pattern too. Thanks so much!
@@craftygal365 I think I’ve got it! It’s one of those patterns where there IS no multiple. You make your initial chain as long as you need to get the height you want and then add 3! I’m quite sure. I’m going to do a test swatch to see if I’m right.
Would like to try this ! You said med for the wool is that a DK . For 1 place mat do I need 1 of the main colour and how much would 1 ball do in the contrast colour. Have you a written pattern that I could follow please. Thank you.😢
Hi, you definitely need 1 full ball of main color - ball size is 3.5oz/100g, 186yds/170m. As for the contrast color, it's hard to say the exact amount but maybe like third of the amount of the main color. Written pattern is here: handmadebyraine.com/how-to-crochet-crossed-stitch-placemat/
Thank you 😊 Reina. You may have heard my prayers. I have so many Afghan yarns that can be used for this project. Thank you again where do you purchase the yarns you use?
You are very welcome, Carole! I remembered the request for rectangular placemat, so it was in my list, just took a while to make it. I get my yarn usually from JoAnn or order on Amazon.
@@handmadebyraine thank you so much for the Info! Wanted to ask my son to purchase a few more for me in Germany 🇩🇪 but I back out cays I know he would say No cause my 4th bedroom is saturated with yarns 😀

I made one and love it. Have you tried it in a lower weight yarn? Any advice?
I love how this looks. If I want to make it a little bigger (14" x 19" instead of 12" x 15"), would one skein of about 200 yards still be enough?
Thank you! You can make it a little bigger with 200 yards, yes.
So glad to finally find this. I look forward to trying it.
Happy crocheting!
Amazing
Thank you!
Beautiful🥰

Beautiful! What is the multiple for the beginning chain if we want to change the height of the placemat?

What do you do with your ends you previously cut? You didnt show that? Did you sew them in or crochet over them?
I usually weave the ends in.

Can i make it smaller? Say chain 34 instead of 37? Thanks 😊
Sure.
What if you’re using all one color?
You can definitely try!
@@handmadebyraine you did not show how to transition to a new row with one color.
Do we have to cut and flip like when you switched colors?

How many chains if you want to make a dish cloth?
Ch 21. Dishcloth pattern is here too: handmadebyraine.com/how-to-crochet-crossed-stitch-placemat/
Can you tell me why I’m getting holes in my work please yours is not like that
Hard to say if I don't see your work, but you could try adjusting your tension or using smaller hook to get your stitches tighter.
