ELK1989612 There are So many awsome drummers these days. Humans went into another phase of drumming. These youngsters played to music, mp3, RUclips, etc. Fundamentals fell to the side for "Stylistic" drumming. (You Choose) kids start where I was after 10 years in the 80s. We had to hunt for teachers, most were useful, it was All rudiments. I got a book put in my face, come back in 1 week, that'll be 25$. Okay, you do it! Or learn on your own. There wasn't computers at all, No cells, walked to a pay phone. Phone books with adds under Music...Thats how you did it period! NO short cutting.
Now!! Hells yes u can short cut music these days. Sorry, but music has gotten very simple these days. A 2/4 4/4, master??? Might be okay. But you had to mix it up with a shuffle, a doodle, and Overlay that silly 2/4 with at least one stagger, or push and pull, stretch it out, make it a 1,1,1,1, I think you call that DJENT? It's staying locked in same 1, with subs. New language you've all created, for what once had known names. Buddy Rich for example was a master of manipulation and short cutting. And was a remarkable player.
Take what you hear, see, examine it, play with it, but Don't discard or cut down something until you understood it.
These fast beats do have a place in talented drummers. If the body/mind connection can play equally, you'd ALL be Buddy Rich! You can get the speed down easily, using many finger, wrist, elbow, DeDa, techniques. That's amplifying the rebound to be a controlled stroke. Than finger, and wrist if needed in between. It just takes practice. Not much though.. Mind, body connection is a must. Can't get ahead of hands, 5% over on meter only. Or you'll get frustrated. In 1 week at 1 hour a day!! You'll be past that week ago 5% barrier. Keep going.
