Watching these videos is really helping me cope with the present circumstances. Not only have you got a really pleasant demeanour, I'm learning medical knowledge too. Thanks Dr Gill :)
Just out of curiosity, you asked which hand was his dominant hand, how do the different arms differ/impact the blood pressure reading? Is it important to always take the pressure on both arms?
doesnt answer your question ,but im reading a book for class about the chicago blackhawks hockey team about their upcoming and how they went from worst to first. one manager of the teams name was arthur and he loved his office cold. so cold in fact, when he went to the doctor they had to take hid bp from both arms because they were different. his right arm which was closest to the air conditioning vent was lower than his left away from the air conditioner.
I am EXCEPTIONALLY cautious about anything like that - perhaps it is an NHS thing, we are scared of ANY approach to finance which might mean someone could suggest a bias. Very much keeping that in mind... watch this space. I'm working on a video to go up in the next two weeks
Wondering the same. My GP always uses an automatic one, which btw seems to take ages before the pressure comes off again and you kinda feel like your arm is being squeezed off 🥴
Assuming that the patient doesn’t have a cardiac arrhythmia, then yes they are as accurate. Some of the electronic ones are MUCH better than others. BUT it is vitally important the students are able to do these manually, as not infrequently the machine just won’t get a reading. Plus by doing manually you get more information about the patient, such as the rhythm of the pulse
Great video! I've a quick question: if the pressure measured in both arms was significantly different (> 20 mmHg), which one should I consider to manage the patient? I've different resources saying different things, some say I should take the lowest and others the highest🤣
Videos can only be as long as is needed for the examination. Currently I’m trying to upload every week, but only so much time 😊 Thanks for the encouragement 😊
Hi Dr. Gill. I have a question about blood pressure. What is the relationship to blood pressure and pulse rate? I am an EMT and I had a patient with a pulse of 232 (obviously emergency) When another EMT went to take their blood pressure, they said 120/80. I couldn't get a BP because the pulse rate fluttered too much for me. I have no idea if it is really possible to get a BP with that pulse rate, and if it makes any sense they would have the most generic BP in a crisis. Does it make any sense to you?
So in the previous video you stated that normal blood pressure range is 90/60 to 120/80. The patient in this video was just slightly above 120 systolic on both measurements, this surprised me as a layman as the patient looked very fit and healthy, also young. You mentioned his blood pressure was fine "for his age". In the previous video on blood pressure you didn't go into how age affects blood pressure and what would be considered normal or healthy for different age ranges, I'm also wonder if gender is another factor that should be taken into account?
I've always wondered, but have never asked. I do get that the diastolic blood pressure is measured by when it, well, pumps through the blood pressure cuff. What I don't get is how you determine the systolic number after that.
Other way around 😊 The systolic is when the heart beats, the diastolic is when it relaxes We did a post last week explaining exactly that 😊 ruclips.net/video/rLEbOjWgmvE/видео.html Hope it helps
I don’t often actively tell people they are wrong. However in this case you ARE! Dinosaur pockets are not cute... Dinosaur pockets are EPIC!! 🦕 🦖 (There was a memo, but I understand if you missed it 😜)

I’m able to adjust the volume, so I can still examine a babies chest if they are screaming. Also there is a filter built in which reduces rustles Finally the screen will display the patients pulse which is really rather useful!
@@DrJamesGill that sounds like it's better in almost every regard. It must be significantly more expensive than a traditional stethoscope though correct?
You told him that his blood pressure for his age is good. What would you say to someone who is 30 and has a constant blood pressure of 90 to 70 with a pulse of 58?
First of all the scrubs are lovely and secondly how are you coping with deaf or hard of hearing patients? I struggle to hear and this period has made everything just more unbearable than usual
I have struggled sticking with it, but I started trying to learn ASL since I’ve noticed more deaf people while working. I work in retail and I can only imagine how frustrating/defeating it must feel to not only be trying understand what someone is saying, but to get them to understand you. Technology helps but having that knowledge would make things easier for both parties.
My blood pressure is 48/83. I have been suffering from headache constantly and lack of concentration.😫It has made my life so difficult. Any cures please?
Well it depends on the context. Probably best to say have a chat to your doctor initially. Literally could be nothing, or might need intervention. It would depend on the work up

Another informative video! Thanks for sharing! 0:53 I’ve not seen this done before. I’m curious about what the width of the measurement means?
I’d the blood pressure cuff is too narrow - for example with a high BMI patient, then the blood pressure will be artificially increased

What’s the reason for inflating the cuff and feeling for the pulse first rather than going straight in with the stethoscope?
The pulse disappears when you exceed the systolic pressure.
So it’s giving you a rough idea of where you’ll be listening to confirm
