ABOUT: How To Take A Manual Blood Pressure
Hi Team!
Did you ever find something really confusing and hard to grasp when you went to Nursing school (or if you're in Nursing school right now)?
Well, for me that thing was taking manual blood pressure!
I just couldn't, first of all, wrap my head around what SYSTOLIC and DIASTOLIC even meant and why a too high too low bp was bad and then what I was actually listening for when taking it!
Taking manual blood pressure is a vital basic Nursing skill and one you should learn how to do well!
These days there are a lot of automatic machines but even they can't be trusted all the time! I actually prefer to take all my blood pressures manually, that way I know I'm getting an accurate reading.
I have put together a video on how to take manual blood pressure and then I have put that information to the test and gotten my husband (who is a non-medical person whatsoever) to demonstrate it to me

I also found this great article really explaining systolic and diastolic blood pressure really well.

@@NurseJenny Hello Jenny, "Whenever I check my blood pressure on an aneroid manual BP apparatus, the first reading always comes out high between (130-140/70-80). Then within minutes, the second reading comes out low between (120-130/70-75), and then the average remains the same at 120-130 systolic. Can you tell me the reason for this and why it happens?"
I started a new job today and haven’t done manual BP since school 9 years ago 😩😩you saveddd me lol ☺️☺️❤️
Aww 🥰 Thank you Yana!! So glad it helped you! 🙏🙏😁
Thanks for teaching manual blood pressure wonderfully.
Thank you for clearly demonstrating where the brachial and radial arteries are. I'm trying to re-learn how to take a manual blood pressure, so I can monitor my and my wife's BPs during the quarantine, and tell our PCP. I was an EMT, once--35 years ago!--so a good instructional video is just what I needed.
Hi Mitch! That’s awesome, I bet it’s like riding a bike 🤗 I’m so glad it helped you! All the best to you and your wife and stay safe 🙏 🥰 Nurse Jenny
Currently in school to become a MA and have been struggling so hard to take BP this video has been so helpful. Hoping it'll help me pass my competency test. Thank you for sharing this!
I’m so glad it helped you!! 🙏🙌😊 good luck in your exam!
Lol me to.

Best Teacher av ever seen!!!Precise and concise.God bless you abundantly.
Thank You so much for your informative and concise video. I have been talking blood pressure readings for over 20 years but just wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly.
I just got my sphygmomanometer today and I have no clue how to use it. I wanna monitor me and my mom's bp so I bought it. Not even the manual on the kit helps. So thank you for this amazing video. Easy to understand and follow. Big help to those who are clueless about medical stuff like me😅
Thank you nurse Jenny, I didn’t get it quite right during my OSCE but after watching this video I think I got it now.
That is amazing Joseph! I’m so glad the video helped you! 💗👍😁🙌
This video was very clear and extremely helpful. Thank you so much!
Nice work
You’re so welcome! 🙌☺️🙏
Finally! I'm able to figure out exactly how to find that brachial artery! Thank you for explaining!
Thank you so much for this video , it's really helps me.i have been asking some nurses where am currently doing my Pratikum but nobody is willing to help me but with this I will try it out on Monday at work
Thank you so much, I'm a first year and have been struggling finding the brachial artery... thank you for breaking everything clear
You’re welcome Louis! 😊👋🙌
thank you somuch for sharing the correct way..its big help for us studying caregiver course
This video is so informative. Thank you so much Nurse Jenny!
You're Welcome Kirsten! It's a basic skill but I do remember finding it hard in the beginning to take a manual blood pressure. Once you've done it 100 times though - you'll be an expert!
Thank you for showing how to find the brachial artery. I am a student taking an LVN program and was struggling with taking manual bp measurement for the first time. With your video I was able to figure it out.
Oh you’re so welcome Christina! I’m so glad it helped you! 😁🙏🙌🥰
This was a great video and super easy to learn from for a novice! Ty!😊
I’m in EMT Academy and this helped me so much. I feel more prepared for my lab skills tomorrow, thank you!
Hi, Jenny, This is nice demo for measuring the BP without Stethoscope. After seeing your video, I went and bought a sphygmomanometer and a cheap stethoscope. Your instruction is wonderful and to the target for understanding . Now I could see my and family members BP at home without difficultly. Your other video on the sphygmomanometer was also wonderful piece of your teaching. ( I am not connected to medical profession other than the purpose of being a patient.) . Thank you.
Hi Rich! Wow that is just wonderful! I’m so glad my video taught you something new!! 🙌🙌😃🙏
oh GOD, Jenny where have you been, a new subscriber here, thank you so very much, thank you, I am a student and I have been struggling with blood measurement techniques, weuuu now have one week in practice, thanks for coming in. On Monday I will be dancing to the patient's room to measure blood pressure. thanks so so very much Jenny
Thank you SO much. I am a novice, and this is the most informative I have seen. Very helpful! Best Wishes to you and patient husband!
Thank you so much! 😍😍😍
hi jenny thank you very much for the information,I'm still learning, soon will be going for practicals, the information is given here is loud and clear, because words also are there to remember,i write every word its written, for me its much easier to understand what you are saying, than just saying it when you demonstrate
That’s great, looks like you’ve found a learning style that works for you! 👍🙌😃
Tha k you for the video. I always freak out on the digital monitors that induce more anxiety and bumps up the BP. I had never been able to feel relaxed with the digital monitors. Looks like this is the way for me to measure the BP. I can definitely take the fear off!
Will try the manual monitor!
I always have trouble with the valve opening and closing. Thanks for mentioning that. Very helpful!
Yes that was definitely one of the more trickier parts of first learning how to take a manual BP. I’m so glad it helped you! 🤩🤗😊
i was struggling how to take blood pressure manually, But luckily i found your video and its a big help to me.. i have incoming state exam for cna.. Thank you Nurse Jenny ! Your the Best..
Oh I’m so glad you found it! 🙌😃🙏
All the best and good luck in your cna exam!! 💕
@@NurseJenny thank you maam..
Thanks. It was really helpful and simple!!
THANK YOU. Out of all the videos I’ve watched on how to do this you are the first to discuss the initial “whoosh” (systolic) sound and initial needle ticks…I thought my systolic was when the initial needle bumps happened. Great job. ✊
That’s awesome Peter and thank you! 🙏🙏😀
Been a nurse for 17 years, but need to teach how to take a good pressure. This is a great example!

This is useful, I am not into medicine but since I have to take care of an elderly relative, having this equipment is vital, I was doing some stuff wrong to say the least but I now I can learn to get a more accurate reading.
So glad to hear you found it useful! 🙏😃😊
Thank you so much, I watched a few videos and yours was the easiest to understand. I'm I training to be a nurses aide, and even though I'll be working at a skilled nursing facility that has digital monitors, I still want to be able to take it manually.
That’s a great way to think about it! 🙌
I’m thrilled you found the video helpful! 😍
Thankyou thankyou soooo much mam for explaining it clearly..
You cleared my all doubt
Thank you so much..

Thank you so much! 🙏😁
BEST guide for finding brachial artery... which not found elsewhere. And needed. Home blood monitor says "align white marker on the cuff over the brachial artery on the inside of the arm." Triggered an. internet search on how to locate the brachial artery. Plus watched several RUclips videos. Still not clear. Yours was the first that provided Clear Directions I can confidently follow. A big deal since felt like raised my blood pressure trying to locate this fundamental information (even if not the case). Can say it was very anxiety-producing not knowing where to accurately place the cuff. A huge relief after watching your video. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
UPDATE Just applied your directions and took my own blood pressure with calm confidence. WOW! Truly your info is a life-saver!
Wow I’m so happy my video helped you!! 😃🙌 now you can confidently go out in the world of measuring manual blood pressures wohoo!! 🥳👏
