I've had abdo problems for well over 3 years now and never had a doc even touch me, only ask me questions. It's nice to see what a proper exam could be like.
Have x rays done. If it's gastrointestinal then unfortunately you're gonna need to get scoped also to make sure it's nothing concerning. Just go to hospital inpatients and they'll have to do the checks.
That’s why I have much better luck with alternative practitioners. They actually touch and examine you and try to reach the root of the problem. Traditional medical is great for diagnosing cancer or something extreme, but they’re not very great when it comes to modifying diet or lifestyle issues to prevent your problems from becoming worse.
That has nothing to do with alternative practitioners which can be dangerous. Like cars, doctors are of different qualities, but hopefully all to a minimum standard. Examinations are a adjunct, but not a main source of diagnosis. 80% of your diagnosis will comes from the history, the examination / investigations are to confirm/reject your differentials
Hi, I put this video on yesterday evening and woke up (thoroughly confused) nine hours later, with my blacked out phone still in front of me. I just want to say that your content is so wonderful, the mixture of professionalism and softness is perfect for me. I’m gonna rewatch the video now, hopefully I’ll get a bit further than yesterday. 😜🥰 Have a great day/night!
Stumbled upon your videos on accident. I have absolutely no relation to the clinical/ medical field but I look forward to your videos. And David’s icon shirt throw.
Hey I'd love to see a video on the anatomy of the foot and maybe a foot examination, I broke my foot recently and got surgery and I've learned a lot about the structures and stuff in the foot and wanted to see what you know about it.
Dr Gill, I'd deeply appreciate if you could find a way to record what you're hearing through a stethoscope and elaborate on that, I think it would be immeasurably helpful to some. Thank you :)
How can I get a check up like this to ensure that my health is okay? I mean I feel well enough but with how thorough and attentive you are with your examinations it makes me wonder, how would I know if there is anything wrong if I’m not getting it checked out? Just like how you go to get a dental checkup I suppose as an example?
Awesome stuff as always, Dr. Gill! I noticed you did a video on depression in the past, have you thought about revisiting the topic of mental health? I think a video on ADHD would be interesting, considering the issue with adderall in young adults at college.
If doig a video on ADHD it would be good not to focus on ppl misusing the meds but on the genuine signs symptoms. Plus the risks without treatment (meds or specialist coaching/psychology).
I wish you were my GP. I've recently had a bad accident and my local doctors don't seem very hands on. Trying my luck again at the end of the week while I go to follow up on an X ray.
@@DrJamesGill thanks for reaching out :) still in a lot of pain, one doctor thinks I have a cracked rib but he didn't really check or anything, just asked for a description of the pain. I've got an appointment Friday to follow up on an X ray of my hand, my best guess is my left pinkie is broken
This video reminds me of my childhood, when the doctor made all these procedures. Old-fashioned but effective way of taking care of the patient 's health. The voice of the doctor is so soft and calm. It helps relaxing
loving this video, thanks so much for it! it would be great if the subtitles showed why u asked to perform each maneuver and what you looked for in them e.g. flapping tremor = co2 retention etc... theres a few i did not know the reason for though

Dr. Gill, i have a question (just out of curiosity): Whole shooting one of these examination videos, have you ever found something that helped the person find out about a condition they might have had? Like a lump or something, idk :)) Love your videos :)) you seem like a really nice person :))
Is it normal to have intense and loud bowel sounds when you have inflamed bowels? I've had a colonoscopy, mri and calprotectin test and all habe come back shoeing inflammation. Not sure if the bowel souds are a normal part of that though?
Mever had doctor check for mail health. Most physicals seem to be questions, lab, and almost no observance as recounted in this video. 4:30 is the liver that far down by navel?
There are different ways of doing examinations. This appears to be one of those differences Please check out MacLeods Clinical Examination as the reference text which is very commonly used at UK medical schools. I would highlight, that I can see a RATIONALE for flexion of the knee joint. However, I’d be interested to know the actual clinical implication of doing / not
Often talking therapies are a good plan The NHS has several free apps that can help people with their own mental health But it would be worth while speaking to your Gp
Always loved this video but didn’t realize exactly why it was one of my favorites until now, lol, it’s because I’m so jealous of David’s flat stomach and chest 😂😂😂. It reminds me of what I could look like once I finally have my post weight loss skin removal surgery and even though I’ve dealt with my excess skin for 4 years now already I’m not sure how much longer my patience will last, haha.
Quick question, if by any chance you see this. What exactly would fluids in the ankle region indicate towards? A friend of mine keeps having that sort of issue, but it disappears after 1 - 2 days.
There are cardiac and abdominal causes it is important to keep in mind From an abdo perspective, one possibility is a problem with low protein But there can be many reasons
No. There was a theory it might. But it has not been supported by the clinical skills research Auscultation is left to last, as it is the weakest sign clinically
Excellent demonstration once again. This is where I make the worst patient. Go anywhere near my belly or ribs with your hands or u/s transducer and I will fall into a fit of laughter and giggles. Give me a ct tap and be done with me.
Often it isn’t too hard to deal with. You can get the patient exhale as you are doing in pressure, and get them to focus on others things But everyone is different 😊
