Someone I know who has had muay thai knowledge passed down to him through his family, told me he would never teach someone to throw a punch or a kick to the bag, without proper footwork, rythym and balance first. Amazing video
Man, you need to compile your material into a digital product. Your stuff makes a great curriculum for people wanting to learn from the foundation level up to advanced. Great instruction from both of you.
Watching these videos and seeing this mastered form in action is inspiring and beautiful. It truly is an art. I'm starting Muay Thai tomorrow and I am so excited I can't eat or sleep! 7 years late, but whatever. I'm so excited just to get my form on and practice space management and positioning and rhythm. I feel there is no rush to this: it's a personal race. Having had bad posture and habits of sitting on my ass for a big part of my life, I'm gonna have to get more flexible before I get to the juicy stuff, like kicks. I don't mind doing the basics for a long time, to get it second nature. Also just gotta say that of all the striking martial arts, Muay Thai really has it all: Fists, Elbows, Knees and Feet. Close combat clenching and sweeping. Conditioning the body and endurance. Insane amount of emphasis on balance. Unique personal style to be developed as you learn. The idea of an exotic Eastern fighting discipline with deep and ancient roots. It is seriously effective and efficient and has shook the world in MMA and Kickboxing arenas. It looks like the fighting form your favorite Dragon Ball Z characters are doing (minus the kamehamehas)

I love this... I have not been taught balance and I believed that balance couldn't be taught. However this explains it so well... and helps me understand how to achieve my balance .... I practice balance in the gym today!! ❤😂🎉
I see why Thai kickboxing teachers stress footwork and balance u look like a ballroom dancer stepping back and forth flat footed I can't wait to learn from the best at it 💯
Thank you for the amazing video, just a question when starting out muay thai and learning the basic stances/footwork; is it normal for the toes joints to feel sore ? Much thanks
What I don't get is that if you do the rithm stuff then for a split second you have the weight on one leg. At that point what's stoping someone from timing a kick ?
the rhythm is fairly dynamic when you fight/spar. you move to the rhythm of the fight. the weight distribution can change too (more weight on your front foot fighting an opposite stance opponent to anticipate a rear kick, which you’d check with your back leg). you aren’t locked into that rhythm and cant move out of it. it’s very easy to quickly move the weight to the other foot and check AS LONG AS the weight is balanced across your whole body - which is more or less achieved by shifting the weight back and forth. you’re not planting all your body weight onto each foot when you’re in your stance either, just shifting it around fluidly. the main point is that muay thai doesn’t favour being heavy footed and stiff, which is how you’d see a lot of beginners first touching the sport. rhythm, flow and a sort of fluidity goes a long way beyond the stance. and if all else fails and theyre throwing mid kicks you can’t check, just catch them, evade them or block with your arm. this is my perspective and others may have better things to say but the idea of someone timing a kick against you when you’re just standing in your stance, doesnt really work. there is plenty of that sort of thing, but those are techniques on their own (fakes and such). hope that helps
I noticed the rear foot is always up on the balls of the feet. Is the front foot the same as well? Or can the front foot be flat footed from time to time?
While you should be transferring weight from the front to back leg, not every fighter has all the weight on the balls of the feet the entire time. Some fighters will go from toes to heel and then transfer weight to other foot. So find a fighter whose style you like, and you can mirror that fighters movement.
If you are Orthodox (right-handed), your lead leg is the left and back foot is the right. Just mirror the video, we are both demonstrating Orthodox stance.
Might be a little late commenting on the video but around 06:45 where it's about being unbalanced, you could just switch stances and nobody would even notice right? Or am i looking at it wrong? 🤔😅
Really great video but I wish you would have let the other guy explain more himself. He’s a really good teacher and some of your clarifying felt really unneeded but great video otherwise
Hi, I'm completely new to this sport. If anyone could help me, that would be greatly appreicated. In relation to the back foot, I understand, at all times, we are supposed to be our toes/ball of the foot. However, does this apply to the front at all times or does it only apply when we throw a kick?
Hello. I’m a new fighter. My instructor is telling me to keep my rear foot straight and it feels uncomfortable. But everywhere else I see the rear foot is pointing at a angle. Is it a legit stance? Or should I keep my foot at a angle??
rear foot should be at an angle and whatever feels the most comfortable to you. Everyone has a slightly different position, so you need to find what works for you.
This is the first stance that you have to master, before moving on to the defensive stance. I cover both Muay Thai stances in another video here: ruclips.net/video/aGFVRTEPtiw/видео.html
He was trying to say to move your front foot towards your opponent instead of the back foot. Then when moving away move your backfoot first, then your front foot.
