    Beautiful video Annette. My ranunculus are huge in their pots. I am hoping to plant them out this weekend as we have really low temperatures a couple of nights this week, and maybe a frost tonight. Your plants will looks stunning in your borders s they start o bloom. Happy gardening. PS it looks like Cosmo is having so much fun in the garden. Bless him ♥ x

      Thanks so much Be. 😊. We've got low temps too but mine have been in my open cold frame for over a month so they've been well and truly hardened off so I'm hoping they don't even notice the move 🤣
      Cosmo is so funny - sometimes I don't even notice him racing around and it's only when I'm editing the video that I spot him! He's so happy to be outside finally.

      @@cottoverdi mine are in a slightly opened cold frame overnight and are out in the day, but I am still too scared to actually put them out until this slightly cold spell passes. I am so pleased with the plants. Especially as I lost all the anemones. must be a happy surprise when you spot Cosmo on the screen whilst editing. Cutie paws, isn't e!

    I've never seen these gorgeous bridal colours, not in Greece ,anyway.
    We have had hot weather (27-29C) in April which is very unusual.
    I don't know if this is the right season for ranunculous , maybe too late. My roses have made flowers already but also pansies are in ful bloom, nemesias which I grew out of seed have flowered , impatiens are ggrowing like mad. I pulled out the tulip bulbs I had in the garden because they have finished and my jasmine has grown new healthy branches with buds.
    I bought pink dalias with flowers and planted them in terracota pots . I also planted superbells in pots. I do the canopy down to protect my impatiens from the strong sun as my pots are on my balcony.
    We've had polen in the air for days. It comes from the pine trees on the mountain behind my house. Masses of it spread everywhere , on patios and balconies. I am not allergic. I live South, in the Peloponnese .Unfortunately it hasn't rained much all winter and spring.

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  3 месяца назад +1

      Gosh, Youla, you are so far ahead of us - we still have tulips and a few daffodils - it will be at least a month before we have roses I think - it's been sooo wet - I think UK got all your rain 🤣

    • @youlamatou
      @youlamatou 3 месяца назад +1

      @cottoverdi Aha yes.
      Actually to our great shock, today it rained and thank God kept all the pollen from the pine trees on the ground. My wooden floor as I wiped it, was yellow.
      But I think on Monday it will be warm again.
      I transplanted lots of flowers . I got them last month and they had grown a lot. So today's rain did them a lot of good.
      Yes, a lot of roses are out. I have pruned roses in the neighborhood (for free) as everybody is missing. They look smashing now.
      My name is Georgia, but only my close relatives call me Youla.
      I used to correspond with Prince Philip. I used to live in Corfu.

      My Mum lives in South of France and has similar problems with yellow pollen...I think it's tiring for her to keep sweeping and cleaning.

      Wow - Prince Philip - did you meet him? Sounds like you have a very interesting life. 😁

    Do you buy Ranunculus as potted plants or grow from corms ? It's going to be a wonderful display can't wait - for me six pots at a time and mine are no way as advanced as yours 💮💮💮

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  3 месяца назад

      Hi there, I grow them from corms - started early each year. I grow them on in my cold frames so that they are hardened off really well and I can plant them out mid-April even if we have cold temps at night like this week (2°C)

  • @oas1224
    @oas1224 3 месяца назад +1

    Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see them flower. I have tried ranunculus 2 times to no avail :(( Have you tried letting them plant and see if they perennialise?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  3 месяца назад

      I've left some in by mistake and they seem to be ok and they're flowering now, so about 2 or 3 weeks sooner than the ones I've sown this year. I don't tend to leave them in the ground because we have so many squirrels and mice and they just munch on all the corms 😕

  • @yazmin444
    @yazmin444 3 месяца назад +1

    Mrs. Annette, I love your Ranunculus colors, I do believe your are in zone 8B as well, can I ask when do you start your ranunculus to get them to that size? thank you kindly. I garden in Texas zone 8B we are getting temperatures of 84 degrees now. I planted my ranunculus in the ground in the fall and they all ready have finish blooming but this is the first time that I plant them in the ground and am not sure if I should dig them out or leave them in place what do you recommend ?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  3 месяца назад

      Thanks Yazmin. Gosh it must be lovely to have warm weather already in April! If you have soil that drains well and you don't have any pests like squirrels or mice that will eat your corms, then you can leave them in the ground. I dig mine up because we have heavy clay soil and a LOT of rain over the winters and so the corms would rot from all the wet. Also I have lots ALL my ranunculus one year from squirrels eating them because it was so cold and they were very hungry. Hope that helps - individual gardens vary so much that it's hard to advise what to do.

    These are gorgeous. This year for the first time I have planted ranunculus bulbs but they’re not growing yet and I’m worried that they won’t . Are the plants you’re planting now from bulbs that you have taken up from last year ? Even if my bulbs don’t come up now, I wonder if it would be worth my while keeping them in the hope they will do better next year ? Have you ever tried leaving them in the ground ?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  3 месяца назад

      Oh, have you kept them inside or did you plant them directly into the ground? Definitely keep them for next year but they may have rotted or been eaten by squirrels (if outside) so do check what's going on. Some of mine are new this year but I keep all my old corms and replant them each year. I've left some in the ground by mistake and they're flowering now but I always try to dig them up because I'm worried they will rot from all the rain and also we have a LOT of squirrels!

      @@cottoverdi I planted them into outdoor containers . It does appear that a few are just poking out now but clearly not as many as I planted. There has been a lot of rain and I’m wondering if some of them have rotted. A lesson will have been learnt.
