    I love all the beautiful colors of Sweet William, brings back wonderful memories of my Nana who always planted them. I bought Harlow Carr bare root this year but it died. We had 2 heat waves so far this year which is unheard of at this time of year and our temp was one of the highest in the world, which is just insane. I just dont know what to think anymore about our weather just keep plugging along and hope everything survives.

      Thanks Jane. What a shame about your Harlow Carr - di you contact your supplier? They should replace it...
      Yes, the weather is so unpredictable these days. we're about to have a mini heatwave here - it finally feels like summer but unfortunately it's now hasn't rained for days and so we have to water the garden!😁

    3.02 I love scarlet dianthus. I wish I had some in my garden. I always love red flowers and clothes too. I have bought different fabrics ,silk red curtains and other fabrics which I turned into tops. I do have dark skin and hair so I guess I look very greek in bright colours although some people called me French and wven Italian when I was living in Corfu.

Been planting creeping red thyme on our higdldy pigdldy path and erigeron karvinskianus profession around the doorstep and in our rock wall just got some erigeron seabreaze to plant in a steep cleared hedge wall. @@cottoverdi Haha.I was sowing a packet of Alpine Strawberries many years ago in my greenhouse, and I clumsily dropped the whole lot on the compost dusty floor. I swept the floor and tried to sow the pile of floor dirt, hopefully with at least some of the seeds in it. I got about 3 plants, but that's better than nothing eh! One thing is for sure Annette, gardening certainly brings you down to earth...quite literally! X

    Love Sweet William. I have planted up nearly a whole bed with them earlier this year, on my allotment. I have been cutting them for about 6 weeks now- gorgeous, and it is great as a cut flower bringing perfume to the house and they last ages. I don't think I will sow any his year- I will wait to see how this bed fayres over Winter. I wonder if taht will be something I regret doing ,next year, when i have no beautiful flowers to cut. Thanks form a great video. Happy gardening 🙂

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Месяц назад

      Hi Jane, thank you. Yes, I've sown Verbena before - it's very easy and once you have it in your garden, you will have it forever because it self-seeds so readily. I love it as a plant and flower, but especially because I no longer have to worry about it since they pop up everywhere and I just move the seedlings to where I want them! 😁

    Hi Annette I live in very warm Texas in the U.S. do you know if I can wait until Sept after the worst heat passes because Dianthus, after all, is a cool season plant and I am looking for something like 30 to 45 days of triple digits😎😰😱. Nvm I stayed on long enough to hear your answer to that question😅😘

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Месяц назад +1

      Yes you can!Hi, yes, absolutely, you can definitely wait. Our autumns can be damp and wet so I like to sow mine while there is a chance of some warmth in the summer but they can also be sown Sept/Oct time and will overwinter well.

    I have a big pink dianthus in a nice terracota pot on my balcony but with 40C at 6pm every day I am surprised it has survived.

    • @youlamatou
      @youlamatou Месяц назад

      @cottoverdi It is pretty horrific. The air is a lot cooler if you sit on the beach. I think it is the outside walls of the houses (Mine are stone walls) which keep the heat. I don't know how tourists can bare it. We do drink a lot of cold water.
