I'm Annette and I'm lucky enough to have a walled garden in the beautiful Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire, UK. I love to grow plants from seeds, cuttings, bare roots and more. My channel is a detailed look at everything that we're doing in the garden, with specific details about the plants we have and how to care for them.
I hope to inspire you to confidently care for your garden plants throughout the seasons and will share tips for growing for stunning flower arrangements so that you can bring your garden indoors too.
I love flowers - the fluffier, the better! I grow a huge variety of tulips, roses and dahlias each season, and grow hundreds of annuals from seed each year.
Follow along for inspiration and in-depth instructions so that you can join in too.

Why Are Rose Leaves Yellow? Rose Care In Spring // Cottoverdi
Thanks for your video Annette, good to see you have nice wether in the UK, we have had rain all day. Love these sweet Rockets and wall flowers.
My dames rocket did not do anything this year during winter sowing but luckily I still have some so I will try again. I don't think that I have seen wallflower seeds but will look.
I love wild sweet Rocket and so do the caterpillars 😂
Many thanks for all the information. Would you tell me where you buy the individual seed trays please. Thank you.
Dame’s Rocket grows wild here and is considered an invasive. It’s so lovely and I enjoy it every spring!! Take care 😊
As alway's a lovely inspiring video! My late father had a large garden and would grow a lot of wallflowers. I seem to remember him growing them from bare root plants, but he did grow an enormous variety of flowers and vegetables from seed. He really loved his garden. Unfortunately I only have a small garden, but do have a perennial wallflower 'Bowles Mauve' in a pot, which I purchased from a garden centre. 😊
مسيىة مزفقة💚💚💚💚💚🩷🩷🩷🩷🍹🍹🍹🍹🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🌵🌵🌳🪴🌲🌲🌾🌾
Your garden is really looking good. I hope all your everything comes up for you.
Good luck. I planted 75 last fall and 0 came up in spring. I was really bummed. Planted some the year before in spring and loved them. Still gonna try again
Anemones can be very aggressive especially Honorine Jobert. I have the pink ones and they seem to be slower to take off and stay more compact. I love them and so I put up with the fact that they need reining in every year. I end up passing the pieces of them that I dig up along to friends and neighbours.
Hi Kate, I think you're talking about the Japanese anemones - which can indeed be quite aggressive but these are the spring-flowering anemones (mostly anemone coronaria) that I'm trying to grow for autumn blooms. 🌸
@@cottoverdi Thank you for explaining the difference, I really do love them and will look for some of the variety you are growing for my garden.
❤hi Annette, I am wondering how is your tricyrtis doing?
Hi, interesting you should ask - I keep checking and haven't seen any sign of them yet. I'm a little worried that Richard 'weeded' them out - he can be a little aggressive when he doesn't recognise the plant ! 🤣
@@cottoverdi oh no, I hope he did not 😅 I usually mark the flowers I planted with a label, sticks, and rope to make sure no one accidentally weeds them.😆
@@PavlinaMolotokA Good idea - I should definitely do that!!!
Wow Lovely Flowers ^^ Like 123 My friend, thank you for good sharing Have a good relationship
Thanks 😁🌸
Hi Annette. Can you please tell me what kind of labels you use, and what you use to write with ? I have endless trouble with labels fading.
Hi Stan, I use white plastic labels and I use this marker - it's UV resistant so lasts really well in the garden (unlike sharpies) amzn.to/3W35Gv1
Beautiful garden and hope you get anemones popping up in late autumn.
Thanks Nichols, me too! 😁🌸
Amazing dahlia collection. Loved this video 🌻
Thanks Susan. I can't wait for the garden to be filled with dahlia blooms this year! 🌸
He most certainly is wonderful 😀
🤣 Thanks!
Sorry you had to contend with the rain, but I bet you're feeling pretty happy having them all planted out. I think you may have a wider variety of anemones available to you in the UK, and I'm especially looking forward to seeing the fluffy white double with the olive green center in bloom (hint, hint, you'll need to take us on a tour)!
Thanks Mary - it really was horrible weather - and I will definitely take you all on a tour (fingers-crossed that they all bloom!) 😊
Thanks for your video again Annette, hope you have better luck with your Farmer Gracy anemoon corms then I have had with their ranonkelus corms. From 60 corms I only have had 1 flower. And a lot of their dahlia tubers are mis labeled and notwhat I had ordered. Kind regards Joke from The Netherlands.
Hi Joke - I'm so sorry to hear that you've had problems with Farmer Gracy - I do hope you contacted them to let them know the issues so that they could replace them? I've found them to be reliable and also that they replaced/refunded any mistakes that were made. 😊
Super keen hubby , mine complains the whole time then rushes back in the house to watch the football. Another great video. Thank you 🌻
🤣 Mine complains - but I edit it out!!! 😁
Great video, love your enthusiasm and sense of humour. I’m working my way through your videos. I’ve just retired after working for 50 years so got all the time in the world now. 🌻
Thanks so much Susan. That is wonderful to hear. I hope I can bring you many more hours of entertainment! 😁
Great video, again. Love the Anemones, definitely trying to buy some! Thank you 😊
Glad you like them, thank you ☺️
We may get a little bit of rain! So it’s your fault we’ve got all this wet weather 😂 It’s never stopped for days here in Durham 🌻☔️🌻☔️
🤣 Oops. Sorry! 😁
Loving that penstemon. Loving your videos - furiously taking notes for jobs in our NZ summer in December. My honesty was sown in pots in early autumn and I was wondering if they'd survive if I planted them out now with -1 to -4C frosts (they're around 8" tall) ❤
I think they'll be happier in the ground than in pots. I'd plant them out. 😊
Love it thank you!! Another idea to try for seasonal colour ❤
I hope it works! 😊
I tried for the first time this year to grow anemones in pots in my balcony. I planted in spring 3 pots with 3 different Mistral anemones and two pots with the Sylphide ones. All pots filled with the leaves of the sprouted anemones but I got no blooms!! Nothing from the Sylphides and only one bloom from one of the Mistrals. They keep producing leaves but no blooms. Do you have any ideas what I might have done wrong? Before I knew this would happen and because I only discovered FG recently, I already bought and preordered lots more of the Mistral anemones from them. My previous anemones were not from them. I would really like to be more successful with these new corms, so I'd appreciate your input greatly!!!
Hi, I really don't know why you'd only get leaves and no flowers. Have you tried to feed them with a balanced liquid feed? They compost may be lacking in nutrients if they are in pots. Also, make sure that they have consistent watering because stressed plants won't flower well. The only other reason `I can think is that the temperatures aren't right to promote flowering. Our anemones flower well here when the temperatures are below 20°C so if it's hotter than that, the plants will shut down. I hope you have better luck this year. 😊🌸
@@cottoverdi Thank you soo much for your prompt and detailed response. I'll take into account all your suggestions when I plant the new corms. Thank you, again!!!
Great video Annette. Loved the way you describe the anemones and also where and why you are planting them in various locations in your garden. I have tried to grow anemones several times but haven't been very successful with them. I actually managed to grow 8 this year. I have left them in the ground after they finished flowering, so hopefully they will come back next year. If they do then I may buy some more, but I won't if there is no sign of them. I was debating whether to lift my Ranunculus or leave them in the ground this year. They are in a raised bed with some of my peonies. What would you do? Happy gardening 🙂 x
Thanks Be. This year I took a 'brave' decision to leave all my ranunculus in the ground. I thought I'd give it a go and see how many come back and whether they are actually even more floriforous...I guess I'll find out in the spring. I've never left them in before but my stash has become too laborious to manage (especially since I HAVE to lift the dahlias). There's only so much digging I can do! I've no idea whether I will see any flowers next year and they are spread all over the garden so the soil is different in each location. 😬🌸 😁
@@cottoverdi Yes, very brave but I understand why you have done this. It all becomes very overwhelming in Spring what with stored dahlias,Tulips, salvias and seed sowing on top. I think I will leave the ones in my raised beds and just store the others. That will cut down the amount of work. Good luck and I hope they come back with a vengeance. Happy gardening 🙂
Great video, love your planting passion 🌻🌺
Thanks so much Susan 😊
My Anemones from FG have come back every year so far
Brilliant news! I was hoping someone would say that 😁👍🏼
Thank you, nice idea. Can I do the same with ranunculus? Plant it now?
Gosh, I don't know. Very possibly but this is the first time I'm trying it. I know that Amelia from AmeliasFlowerFarm has planted anemones for autumn flowering before so that's why I decided to give it a go. 😊
@@cottoverdi this is what Gardeners World says about planting after Spring Planting time of ranunculus bulbs depends on whether they are planted under cover or outside. Under cover, in a frost-free, cool place such as a greenhouse, porch, or polytunnel, plant in pots from early autumn to early winter. For growing outdoors, plant from late spring to early summer. (Bear in mind that those planted from late spring will flower the following year.)
Enjoyed it and as always was fun😊
Thanks Elizabeth 😊
Tôi rất vui được nghe bạn chia sẻ ,rất biết ơn bạn đã chia sẻ kinh nghiệm với mọi người .
Đó là niềm vui của tôi để chia sẻ. Cảm ơn vì đã xem. 😊
Great presentation👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😊
I have several Litchfield Angel roses in my garden, and my roses are 6foot plus high, so blooms that flop don't matter. It is an extremely vigorous rose when it's established, so give a couple of years and you will be amazed by it. I always say if it had a perfume it would be my favourite rose ( but that is still Gertrude Jekyll). Well done Annette 😊
Thanks Diana, that's great to know - I will wait for it to grow a bit taller so that I can enjoy those blooms more. 😊
Thank you!
You're welcome! 😊
Salvia Caradonna is so easy. June 1st I broke off a stem, only pulled off the leaves that were going underground. Shoved it in the ground and watered it for 3 days and then 2 times a week. 5 weeks later it has growth coming up from the ground. Zone 6A. The stem was pretty tender, not woody at all.
Wow! How fantastic. I bought some tiny plug plants of caradonna earlier this year and they all died!!! 😕
So much appreciate your in depth descriptions and closeups ❤ from NZ
Glad you like them, thanks Carolyn. 😊
الورود في هذة الحديقة جميلة ورائعة جدآ شكرآ لك 🤲🌷🌿
شكراً جزيلاً 😁
I am new to your videos. Enjoying them very much. I am curious about the name. I googled it and it said cooked greens. Is there another meaning? Thank you.
Thanks Jennifer. No, nothing to do with cooked greens - or Italian ham 🤣. I was actually going to open a business selling pots/containers so the Cotto comes from Terracotta and the Verdi is just 'green'. I kept the name but not the business idea 😁
Foxgloves are so cottage garden and romantic. Love the pink gin ones. Should look lovely in your garden💐
Thank you Carol 😊
love foxgloves. thank you for sharing all those varieties. I am growing alba and apricot this year. I always get lots of self seeders in my garden- with a lovely tange of colour too, from dotted white to pinks to purple/pink. They alwys cheer the garden in late spring- love them. I thought I might buy some seeds of candy mountain. Have you ever grown those? Happy gardening 🙂 x
Hi Be, Yes, I think I've bought Candy Mountain as a plant in the past - such wonderful colours and I love the Apricot ones too. Foxgloves seem to fill a much needed spot in the garden don't they. 😁
@@cottoverdi Hi Annette, yes indeed! 🙂
If the tree is leafing out it has some vigor. Not sure why you assume it's dying. Plants sometimes take time to recover, sometimes a year or two. They sometimes go in to shock and we need patience. Vicki
Ah, thanks Vicki but the tree has been leafing out and the leaves have been exactly the same size for 3 months! So I really don't think it's very healthy. It's possible that it needs more shade and so I may move it to a more appropriate location and wait to see whether it's happier there. 😊

Just so lovely!! I certainly hope I can find Pride and Prejudice here in the US . Thanks for the beautiful tour ❤❤
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching 😁🌹
I just paused your video, ran out in the summer rain and sprinkled my foxglove seeds all throughout my garden. I will save some to winter sow for next year. My foxgloves never repeat flower so I just let them go to seed. Some of the stalks I cut back to rebloom just dried up and died. I must be buying the wrong ones.
I hope you have lots of luck with your sprinkled seed Kate.😊
Hi Annette, The garden's looking just so lovely. I had to wait a long time before we got to Harlow Carr. I knew you had it and I wanted to see how it was doing. I've got one that's not as old as yours and not really found it's feet yet. It's interesting because it doesn't seem to be very popular but you and I like it. I've got two Mme Alfred Carriers and they've done so well this year and are repeating now and will do thoughout the summer and late into the Autumn. You can check it out on my Channel if you're interested. I love your videos. Cheers! P.
Thanks Peter, yes, I think the thorns probably put many people off Harlow Carr but the scent is amazing! 😁
Apart from singing from the same song sheet on many things, in partcular we agree on Blush Noisette, Ghislaine de Felegonde and Alhoa. In my garden - on RUclips - you'll see my Blush Noisette is just never out of flower, nor is my Mme. Alfred Carriere. Cheers! P.
How wonderful to be able to see around your gorgeous garden, Peter! Everything looks so much and healthy 😊
Great selection of foxgloves, they are the bees knees.
Thanks Nicholas 😁
Dear Annette, I study English and I love roses. Your channel and your narration are so delightful! Thank you ❤
Thank you so much Juan. Your English is excellent!
So beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
My Sutton's Apricot foxgloves are just going over. Really strong stems and a gorgeous apricot pink. Wish I had gotten more seed of that variety this Spring, but I did sow and plant out Apricot Beauty. I love that the bunnies leave them alone, too!
Hi Mary, yes, I think Sutton's Apricot really is my favourite - just the perfect colours for our garden. 😊
