    Some view this as a chore but this is one area of gardening I find sort of relaxing. Then you get so much more for your money- minus buying plenty compost and potting soil.

    My Echinacea bare roots from Farmer Gravy have done well planted in pots in a well drained medium on the terrace but my Epimedium, and Oriental Poppies have crashed and burnt - don't think they've liked the UK's persistent miserable wet weather. BUT Farmer Gravy do have an excellent customer care service and sent out replacements without question.

    Very inspiring to try these oxalis varieties.
    That salvia amastat is a must-have.
    Here in Northern Germany we have hailstorms in these days and my ornamentals are covered.
    The year started difficult for plant production but I have special protective and mobile mini-roofs.
    Today my dianthus 'Dancing Geisha' started germinating.

      Hi Kati, dianthus 'Dancing Geisha' looks so interesting - I'd love to give it a try.
      Yes, we've had such horrible weather and an unseasonably cold spell over the last week but hopefully the weather will warm up and we will have blue skies soon because all my seedlings are suffering from the lack of sunshine. It's pretty sad.

    My Salvia’s also don’t make it over winter in London. Having learnt from my mistake I will always take cuttings. I keep them inside over winter and sometimes have to cut off flower heads as they pop out to early!

    I bought those peacock orchids this year from Aldi's. I thought I have to treat them as annuals so I didn't buy but only a bag and plant in a pot. Now that I know they survive down to minus I'll go get more. Thank you for letting us know. You got quite a few beautiful varieties there! I need some fillers for my beds. So I'll check on others you recommended. Thanks again. Great video!

    Hi Annette. Gorgeous Echinacea flowers. I grew the basic Echinacea last year from seed to increase my stock. I love them 'en masse' I had Triangularis in pots on my lower patio, for several years, but a cold winter finished them off. We've had rain here today with sunshine. Have been a bit worried about my dahlias outside, but the shoots needed more light. Just debating buying some more varieties but I still have lots to pot up. Will I ever get them all done, as so busy with the flower and vegetable seedlings too. It seems to be be 24/7 at the moment. I bought Hosta Zebra stripe as a bare root earlier this year. Last year I bought White feather. They both look the same so I think I have been sent one variety that is wrong. I guess that's the problem with not buying plants in pots. The bonus to bare root is price, enabling more plants to collect at a reasonable budget 🙂 Ooh I didn't know the Gladiolus Murielae are scented, how fabulous.! Thank you Annette. I bought begonia non stop plugs as seeds grow so slowly- almost as slowly as Lisis, ha ha. I love Phlox paniculata. I have about 20 varieties now, in many different colours. So useful as cut flowers and a wonderful scent. I get my Salvia Amistad to go through the winter by mulching over the top with dry spent compost and covering with plastic or a cloche, the keep the ground dry underneath. I think I have a a similar climate/soil to you. Maybe give that a try? I have all my plug plants, received at the beginning of April, in cold frames. I have them fully open in the day and propped open at night as you do. It seems to work, doesn't it! Happy gardening 🙂 x

      Thanks Be. We've had a horrible drizzly day here - you'll see it in my video tomorrow (rain-hair 😂). I had White Feather once - it was too pale for me - maybe I should have grown it with some other colourful plants but it was in a pot outside the front door and our walls are white so it just looked a bit insipid.
      TWENTY phlox?!!! Now that is a collection I'd love to see! They are such pretty, long-flowering and useful plants - I wish I had more..I'd better start collecting 😁
      Thank you so much for your advice on the Amistad - I will definitely be trying that this year - I'm so frustrated to always be losing them. I'm also going to take cuttings again and remember to water them this time 🤣

    Oh Annette, how I wish you were in my gardening life when I was starting out as I made so many mistakes. I always grow Oxalis deppei Lucky Clover as I love the leaves. Our cheapo discount store sells the bulbs but I've not seen them this year so I'm hoping my old ones in pots will come back as they often do but I think all the rain we've had this year will have rotted them. I've never been successful with Salvia Amistad either Annette. What a great idea getting plug plants of it. I'm with you on the plug plants for economy and I really enjoy potting them on. I've always received ones in excellent condition from Brookside Nursery. Yours look healthy too. Please may I ask where you got them from?

      @cottoverdi  3 месяца назад +1

      Gosh, I've made so many mistakes too! That's how we learn, though 🤣 Glad to know I'm not the only one who struggles with Amistad (although, of course, sad that you have probs too Wendy). I just love the plant so much - it's pretty frustrating to keep losing it. I got the bare roots and bulbs from Farmer Gracy and the plug plants from South Eastern Horticultural. 💚
