Thank you so much!! You are quickly becoming my new favorite gardening channel on RUclips. You are always on target with what you are doing in the garden!!
Wow, thank you Preston! Thanks for watching - hope I can bring you any more fun videos 😊
You are my favorite garden channel.
Wow, thank you Sally. That is such a lovely thing to hear. I'm so glad you enjoy my videos, thanks for watching 😊
Great project aAnnette and Richard. Your patio is going to be divine to sit on in during the Summer months, full of colour- glorious! I have all my potted dahlias along the driveway to greet my visitors as well as us. My decking, outside the lounge, is simply decorated with cannas and grasses, and the decking outside the Summerhouse has roses and Zinnias. Happy gardening 🙂 x
Thanks Be! 😊 I still need to get my Zinnias in the ground! 😬
Oh what an amazing display you will have ! Can’t wait to see it in full bloom ! Ps we share some favourites. 💐
Thanks so much 😊
Beautiful selection of dahlias in pots, They are the bees knees.
Thanks Nicholas - hope they survive the slug pressure! 😁
Wonderful work. I do hope I have better luck with my dahlias this year. I have potted them, instead of putting them in the beds. I’m fighting a war with slugs at the moment and have just about kept 2 out of 5 lupine free from damage.
Thanks Juliana. Yes, the slugs and snails have been voracious this year - I've never know a year like it!!! 🐌
Hi Annette and Richard, well done to you both, you work blooming well together. I can't wait to see all the flowers in the coming months. Thank you. X
Thanks so much Jimmy. It was a very satisfying project ! 😁
Oh my ,I have a few dahlias I am in love with creme de cassis ,am thinking I need this one in my collection soo beautiful..❤
You should Kelly - it's gorgeous - but definitely one for the front of the border or for containers because it's very short. 🌸
@@cottoverdi thank you I will but now to find it ,I lived in Northern Ontario Canada most of the dahlias here are the normal ones and I work in a garden center and I have already ask if they could find it . The search is on lol
good luck!
Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous collection of dahlias, can’t wait to see them in bloom!
Always enjoy your videos 😊
Question; do you put the old soil with the grit into the compost and start with fresh soil with each planting?
Thank you so much! 😊
I usually put it all on the compost - grit too. But this year, we are filling a big 'hole' left by the builders in the hope of creating a gravel garden so that's where we've tipped it all this year. I don't keep any of the compost in the pots after the tulips because it usually harbours a few slimy pests and also because the tulips have such dense and vast root systems that I don't think there is sufficient soil/nutrients left to grow anything good in a pot - it's always re-used on the compost pile or to add structure to the soil in the borders. 😁🌸
Hi Annette, Love your videos, Looking forward to this years display of Dahlias. At the beginning of your video, What are the pink flowers just below the White Bird feeder?
Thanks Gary. The pink flowers are sweet Williams (I think Newport Pink)grown from seed about 18 months ago, also, a David Austin rose called Harlow Carr. The palest pink flowers at the front are a speciality butterfly ranunculus called Ariadne. 😁
@@cottoverdi Thank you Annette, Greatly appreciated. Just about to try Ranunculus for the first time, hope they end up as nice as yours.
Annette m, can you put grit on top of your flower beds to supress the weeds? In America we use tree bark for wed suppression but it really doesn't look great.
Hi Sally, I'm not sure that grit is the best thing. In our garden we use a 2 to 3 inch mulch of composted farmyard manure (we can buy it in bags). I find that this works really well - it suppresses weeds and feeds the soil whilst also improving the structure, whereas grit wouldn't really add anything. It's also really easy to pull out fresh wind-sown weeds from this much.
I've chosen not to use bark because I'm not a fan of how it looks and it takes too long to break down.
Good soil is No.1 priority for me - without it my plants won't thrive so I'm happy to invest in the manure.
If you do go down the manure route - just make sure it is well-rotted/composted because if it's fresh, it'll burn your plants 😬
Hi Annette, I am a new follower and I absolutely love your channel ❤. I have watched so many videos so far but I wonder if you have an update on the no dig method bed please? I am followed yours and would love to keep it going 😅 thanks very much to u and Richard 👍
Hi Claire, I don't think I've done a specific no-dig update in a video on it's own but I definitely mention it in a few - especially the video where we widened the bed this spring. I will make a note to go over the results in a video in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion. 😊
@@cottoverdi I must have missed it. I am going to watch that video again. Thanks Annette 👍🥰
Annette, do you plant the dahlia corms up in a pot first and then put the plants out in pots/garden? Thanks🌺
Hi Marie, yes, I always plant the dahlia tubers up into plastic pots first because that way I can bring them on earlier indoors and protect them from slugs and snails. I've made a few videos about it - try this one: ruclips.net/video/0XBlryysPwI/видео.html
Great video!! What size pots are you using for the dahlias?
Hi, they are 15 inches (38cm) across the top and 13 inches (34cm) tall. 🪴
