Ideal Logic / Vogue L2 Fault. Testing a gas valve • How To Test a Gas Valv...
Today's video I'm going to try and go through, the common question that's asked, L2 fault code ideal logic , also L2 fault code ideal vogue on this one. Sometimes it can also be the F2 fault as well. So in this video today, I'm going to try and go through as many of them faults as possible and show you how to sort them problems out or what to do to find out more about that problem. So yeah, let's get into this video.
Number one, blocked or frozen condensate pipe. So these are in no particular order. I'm just giving you a list of all the different ones and then we'll look at how we can resolve some of the issues with them. So if you go outside, if you have a look at your condensate pipe, sometimes you'll have a black pipe like this outside and then you'll have this little white pipe and these can freeze up if it's in cold weather, these could freeze up. You may see that it's insulated or if it's not insulated, it may be that you want to insulate that. So you'd need to look in the installation instructions and just see what it says about that. But that's a common issue is a blocked off frozen condensate pipe. Sometimes they also block under the sink as well, but it may be you need to get a gas engineer out just to check that. You don't want to start pulling pipes and things off under the sink. So that's number one, condensate.
The next on this list is no gas. So it could just be that you've got a gas token metre and it could be these greedy token metres now that it's just run out of gas. And it may be that you just need to top the metre up. And if you did top the metre up, then you'd come back to the boiler and you'd just click on reset on the boiler and then the boiler would work again. And then if we're a gas engineer, what we can do, we can check if we've got gas to the appliances. So I'm just going to tip the case off on this just to make it a little bit easier to do. And all I'm going to do, I've got a little tester for gas and I'm going to connect this onto gas valve underneath here. And what we're going to do, we're going to check this off, check our test, the standing pressure, and that's just to make sure that we've actually got gas to this gas valve on here. So I'll do that now. We'll just get a screwdriver.
But we've got a gas valve under here. So all we're going to do is just turn the gas valve off and then we're just going to take the screw out on there. As I said, to do this, you must be gas safe registered, you must be competent to do so. So you're just going to fully remove the screw. You need to be really careful that, make sure you don't lose the screw. But we totally take the screw out like that and then what we're going to do, we're just going to connect our SP620 Digital Manometer onto here.
And then what we can do, you can just put this out where, or we can use magnet and we can just stick it on side at boiler and then we just turn the gas on underneath the boiler. As you can see here, I've connected my iPad on here just so we can see what the standing pressure is. So this is the pressure. We've nothing working at the moment. Normally, you'd use this on your phone and what I do is when I'm using it on my phone I would snapshot. So you can snapshot what the standing pressure is if you needed to know that. But for this, all we're doing is we're just checking that we've physically got gas to here. And then from that we would do over check, so we might do is working pressure or whatever that would be, but at the minute we're looking for an L2 or an F2 fault.
So the next thing after this, what we would do, we would check and test the gas valve maybe. So Kevin from Ideal or ex-Ideal engineer has done a really detailed video on how to test gas files because there's different gas files for different models of this boiler for the Ideal Logic and also the Ideal Vogue So what I'll do with that is I'll put a link below to how to test the gas valve because that'll be a much more detailed video for you because obviously it'll show you the different types of boiler. But as I said at the minute, this is just showing, we've physically got gas to the boiler.

Allen, Your a god send mate, Been watching your videos for a few years and the amount of times you've helped is unbelievable. I've now moved house and have the ideal logic boiler and on filling, turned the wrong valve which stopped the flow to the rads. Couldn't understand why I couldn't get heating on lol. watched one of your videos and boom, saved another call out. Cheers mate, keep up the great work.

Hi Allen. Thanks for the video mate. I'm not a plumber or gas engineer. I had a L2 fault on my Ideal logic combi es35. It turns out it was the condense, but not the pipe. The outside drain was blocked that the condense flows in to, not allowing the condense pipe to empty.
    Cheers mate, appreciate it.

Last tip to check and I’m amazed….lReally poured warm water from kettle, waited a few minutes and magic…low and behold it starting working……I’d never think of trying this…..absolutely freezing since yesterday now I can relax not havin to call out a repair guy..🤦‍♀️🤔which I can’t afford

Great video, many thanks! I have an L2 warning and it’s not cold weather, in-fact it’s boiling out! So, this video confirmed what I suspected - that I’m not qualified to sort anything above unfreezing a frozen pipe!

Would appreciate your help if you could help me many thanks again Dave

My logic + c24 with halo thermostat and externally wired receiver into open therm, throws up an F2 flame loss error when you turn it up 0.5 degrees. If you turn it up 1 degree or 2 or 3 etc it’s completely fine. For some reason it doesn’t like being turned up 0.5 degrees. When it faults it automatically resets itself and starts up fine and starts to work great. Just this 0.5, any ideas .?.?.?.

It was working fine before, now every time the heating tries to come on the boiler fires then cuts out and the f2 fault code comes up. But the hot water side works fine every time I checked the water pressure just over 1 bar the gas supply should be ok as the hw side is OK we had it serviced about 1 Yr ago. Any ideals thanks

@Allen and all gas knowledge folks here, I have an ideal logic c30 base model. I notice that the main selected knob for CH on the boiler itself only shows a digital range from 30 to 35 degrees C when the spec sheet shows it being min 30 C max 80 C .The DHW is fine and shows min 40 C and max 65 C, which matches spec sheet. (More warmth rubbing hands together than the rads) Have you ever encountered something similar.

I keep getting the F2 and L2 one after another, after resetting one or twice it comes back on (the boiler has been doing it for nearly a year). Just ordered the hive rad valves so need the faults fixed so it doesn't keep tripping once the flame goes out.
Just ordered a Flame sensor and Ignition electrode hoping it's one of them.

These are a poor boiler. Simple in design and to fix. Im binning mine as the board went, heat exchanger, ignition, pressure switch, make sure the diverter cartridge doesn’t stick by cleaning it, pre heat option a waste of time being on it, hot water is rubbish it cannot keep up with water flow to heat it quick enough… had trouble since year 7 of it life and limped on until 10.
Only bit I never touched was gas side, the rest any clown can do as long as you are methodical. Board is plug n play! £70 don’t fall for £250! pressure switch pulls out just make sure depressurise the system, oh n pay £350 for one off payment direct to ideal repair if it’s a major job over that price, it’s a one off fee, not a repair contract though.
